Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability, she has become 'the Obama of the tea party'
The Daily Caller ^ | September 6, 2011 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 09/06/2011 7:56:28 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It’s been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” conservative columnist and author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.

“Maybe not,” Coulter said. “Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what we’re getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I don’t know – five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin… I might add, that oh, it’s the media’s fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.”

Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.

“Most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president,” Coulter continued. “But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party. She’s just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this – no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachman’s speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.”

But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.

“No, I agree and I think she’s terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you,” Coulter said. “I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich – too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin – conservatives like me for her enemies. I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans… I think she’s bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.”

1 month ago I was actually hoping she would get in and would have voted for her. Now I pray she stays out of the race

What a stinking load. I remember butting heads with you about Palin well over a month ago. You didn't support her then, and you know it.

Typical concern troll rubbish.

Who’s Ann Coulter?

Not even yesterday's news. She's the day before yesterday's news.

I have always been uneasy about Ann. She has always seemed much more interested in her own image and getting her books marketed through her efforts, than she has about the underlying principle, IMHO.

She's just going to hurt herself with this stunt...just as the left media hounds do when they try and attack Palin.

Fact is, Palin not only espouses the principles...she has lived them and is living them. Her record speaks for itself and it infuriates the left...and apparently also some who are on our side and seem...well, almost envious of her.

Folks can read Palin's speeches and plans for themselves and see where they stand in relation to what she is espousing:

I am asking your same question: I don't know what has happened to Ann? Something has affected her. Disappointment in her personal life? She is a beautiful person to the inner core. I think it is an intellectual apprehension about the future of this nation.

It is my guess that she is seeing the future of our country in the hands of the wrong leadership. It gives her great worry. Ann has worked so hard to get the message out with her writings. The way this country is going, maybe it seems to her that all of her efforts, all of the risks and all of the sacrifice pouring her life out in her writings have been in vain. Seeing what I see, I can imagine Ann being in a real nasty mood.

I too have bought all of Ann's books. Ann's latest book, Demonic is a gift to our political cause. Each line is a treasure and speaks of a patriot's dedication to the freedom of this generation and generations to come. I will always value her contribution and hold her in a special place in my heart.

I read through the speech yesterday, and thought it was patriotic good natured fluff. Nothing wrong with that since she's not actually running for President.

I have to admit, I did have a real hard time listening to the audio version though.

The lies flow so freely from the mouths of these PDSers, it’s easy to think they are just DU posters confused as to what site they are at. They have all the liberal traits.

No sense of perspective
Lie as easily as breath
Make up “facts” as they go along
Project
Turn to personal attacks when challenged
Support “other” candidates (but have posts slamming them too)

Not hard to do the math. Sure some are just bandwagoners or CINOs that want Palin out of the running, but there are more actual libs exposing their true beliefs daily. Gonna be some fat cats soon. Hope they don’t get sick.

I foresee many more readings in the future. It is my duty as a slobbering Palin cultist to evangelize the afflicted with the words of the goddess...

Real fire and brimstone stuff. Perhaps some liberal sacrifice ;)

You can call her names and you can call me names..doesn’t change the fact that more people don’t like her than like her.

Good old Hildy. We can always count on you to show up and say something really really really intelligent.

It’s one thing to endure the Palin assaults from the Left, but the gratuitous noise here on FR is wearing thin.

Interesting.....did she self zot? I imagine the mood in here was too stridently conservative for her north eastern cocktail set tastes.

I have always liked Ann, she is the best at what she does and is usually the smartest one in whatever room she’s in. But I agree with some others who point out that she evidently lives in a North East bubble and is out of touch with what the rank and file believe, think, want. Maybe she’s put off by the accent, the delivery, whatever. She needs to look deeper.

It isn’t messiah worship. Palin is one of a very short list, an embarrasingly, vanishingly short list of Repubs who stood up in the very early days to give the fight to Obama when most Repubs were still running for cover or doing backflips trying to prove that they could reach across the aisle to Satan himself to prove themselves “bipartisan”. It was Palin, DeMint, Bachmann, and a couple of talking heads who gave the weaker sisters the courage to turn and fight.

Palin’s supporters remember that, and they remember the vicious attacks on her on the part of not only the Obamists, but the Repub professionals who saw her as more of a threat than they did Obama himself. So we have short patience and a good dollop of suspicion when we hear the attacks from Repubs.

Is she perfect? By no means. But she fights.

And unlike your typical politician, she isn’t afraid to fight alone.

So, if you want to attack her, then go after her on the issues. But if you just want to ring the bell and we’re supposed to run away from her into the arms of some shape-shifter in Repub colors, it isn’t going to work. Attacks on her, when they aren’t tied to specific issues, have a way of making her stronger. You’d think her attackers would have figured that out by now.
