Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability, she has become 'the Obama of the tea party'
The Daily Caller ^ | September 6, 2011 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 09/06/2011 7:56:28 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It’s been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” conservative columnist and author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.

“Maybe not,” Coulter said. “Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what we’re getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I don’t know – five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin… I might add, that oh, it’s the media’s fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.”

Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.

“Most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president,” Coulter continued. “But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party. She’s just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this – no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachman’s speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.”

But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.

“No, I agree and I think she’s terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you,” Coulter said. “I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich – too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin – conservatives like me for her enemies. I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans… I think she’s bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.”

It will be fun to watch Annette choke on the words "President Palin."

For once, "The Queen of Fabulous" will probably be at a loss for words.

I will wait and see/listen to her carefully over the next few months as to whether she gives her run with McCain as being of value to her political career and shaping.

I noticed its born on date about a week ago on another thread, where it was also bouncing off the walls. Didn't check the posting history, though. Does it smell?

OBTW, here's a link to Palin's transcripts on immigration interviews.

I am not satisfied with it and believe she needs to, and has left room to change and modify her position more so than Perry has. And she has not (and I believe will not) pander to La Raza as Perry did.

I like a lot about Perry, but his ideas about amnesty are more rank to me than Palin's strategy. But that is my opinion after reading a lot of what they both have to say.

Again people can read her own words and decide for themselves

We made fun of the messiah worship when it was applied to president bummer.

I certainly don't consider it messiah worship of Palin. With Obama, his "followers" knew absolutely nothing about him other than "hope & change" and they hated Bush.

I've investigated and studied Sarah Palin's life and record inside out. There is very little I don't know about her. And I am a supporter, not a fan or a follower.

As to a messiah complex, I could make a better case that anti-Palin folks suffer from that. Their fear of the Great and Powerful Obama is so strong they are willing to "settle" for a lesser candidate because they are so afraid of losing. They lack the faith to back the best candidate because the left lives in their head and has them scared sh!tless. It's sad, really.

>> Palin fans on this board (and I can only anecdotaly suspect elsewhere) are in no particular order:

>> 1. Impervious to knowledge or logic
>> 2. Devoid of even the slightest sense of tact
>> 3. cultish to the point of being semi-creepy

Hell yeah!!! Ooga, ooga....

BTW, I just farted in your general direction.

And lo it shall come to pass that the dread disease will spread and the afflicted will babble foolishly, spouting imaginary fables from fetid imaginations spurred on by the goading of their fellows.

And on that day those of nordic feline ancestry shall indeed sail the seas of bits and bytes, and their longboats shall fill a thousand fiber optic cables, bringing merciful digital rest to their corrupted souls.

She is 100% spot on. You can call her names and you can call me names..doesn’t change the fact that more people don’t like her than like her. I had a giggle when I read the part about the hate mail you get if you criticize anything she does. I know that personally.

A whole month ago?

Are you sure?...

I just checked your posts from a month ago.

I believe you used the term “Palinstilians”. Or some such. And so soon after you joined here, to boot!

Are you being entirely frank with readers?

Yours and Gargantua's post (upthread) explain the anti-Palin mindset better than any I've seen. From my observations, there truly is a lack of courage and conviction on the part of these people.

It's also true that some are so woefully uninformed about Palin, that they have allowed the MSM to fill the vacuum in their minds.

It's my fervent hope that many of these doubters and naysayers will be converted by Palin's strong campaign over the coming year.

Good grief! This kind of thing happens every election cycle around here and is applied to all candidates and their supporters. You need to develop thicker skin if you’re going to stick around here.

I realize that some are a tad over the top but so what? If it gets too out of hand, they are shown the door.

Also, if Palin supporters bug you, don’t got to the threads about her. Simple, huh? You won’t see me on Ron Paul threads.

By the same token, you could be called an obnoxious Perry supporter. But that’s okay.
