HOUSTON -- At the moment, Rick Perry's camp confirms the governor still plans to participate in Wednesday night's GOP debate in California.

The governor's campaign just released his schedule showing two events in California after the debate. It appears he will leave the wildfires to appear Wednesday night in California and will continue on with planned fundraisers Thursday and Friday. It appears his brief break from campaigning hasn't hurt.

It’s not as though he can’t stay up to date through email, text, or phone.

Exactly. And I bet his ringtone is NOT "Dancing Queen" either.

There is nothing he can do in Houston that cannot be done in another city.

Language like that describing candidates is just so uncalled for, male or female. I hate to see FR devolve to that. Plenty of issues to argue over...no need for the coarseness...

Exactly what can Governor Perry do that he cannot do wherever he’s at?

Your firefighters and national guard and militaries are doing everything that can be done and any bills to be signed for recovery from the fires are going to have to wait until after the fires are finished anyway.

Perry came out to our local fire and voiced support for the fine firefighters who were protecting our homes. I imagine they appreciated his support and compliments. Many of them worked for long, long hours against a wind-blown fire in overly dry country. They deserve our support and encouragement.

I imagine Perry was in a lose-lose situation with the media and some of his opponents here. They could either portray him as caring more about politics than the people suffering from the fires if he stayed in South Carolina or say that his visits to the fires here were just grandstanding.

Keep in mind that, if there was a need, he could be in Texas within a 5 hours to call that special legislature, if it was needed. Enroute to Texas, he can have that legislature called, the bill could be written and the members vote.

He would be in there in time to sign it. In fact, since the only thing that really matters is a formal signature, they could even fax him or email him the bill for him to sign. Once signed, the bill becomes law where ever he signed it. He doesn’t need to be in the actual legislature to sign it for it to become law.

Or claim that he’s not able to handle the presidency because he had to fly home to do what could have been done on the road.

“Perry is a whore and a fool, and his political leanings have been outrageous. If he has been able to fool you, that is sad, and I hope you can recover.”

I’m 4 Palin too, but what are you gonna do if Sarah doesn’t run? To be sure, Perry is a politician (whore is an exaggeration), but he is certainly no fool and those that call him a RINO are delusional. The ‘12 campaign is gonna be the dirtiest in history. Perry knows how to get down and dirty. You need to get a Plan B and Bachmann and Cain wont’ cut it. So spit it out, what is your Plan B?

As a Texan and Palin supporter, I find it amusing that there is more diatribe directed at Perry than at Myth (perhaps because Myth is no longer the front runner).

When, and if Sarah gets in, I’m with her, but wasting time on the 23 year old Perry/Al Gore business is a useless dead horse. Anyone that knows Texas politics realizes that.

I think he can prepare and join the debate and still governor TX. However, I dare say, Perry supporters WOULD criticism Sarah if the tables were turned. I’ve read some of their dumb@** pathetic comments regarding her.

Very intelligent post.

He came back and did what he could to boost morale and show support for his fellow Texans. Now he is doing what he can to make a difference on the national stage.

I am pleased with the responses that he has given during this crisis. I hope he does well in the debate.

Totally correct.

Palin ‘supporters’ are starting to show strong similarities to a garden variety DU’er. The trash that they post about other GOPers who want nothing more than to bring down the Obama regime is pretty sickening. If they think the crap they write/say is helpful to Palin, they are sadly mistaken.

“...many of her supporters (not all but many) are a turn=off..”

Some are quite reasonable, while others have been among the nastiest folks I’ve encountered in 10 years on FR. Hard to imagine they believe they’re helping her in any way.

Maybe he’s trying to get the psychopath in chief to sign the papers so that the assets sitting on the ground at Fr. Hood can be used. 0nero is taking his sweet time in doing his job again.

I've been saying this for years

Me, also. When hillary promised she had no plans to run for president and once she got reelected as senator- there she was tramping around running for president. They have no confidence in their winning - they keep their backup in case they fail. That is one 'perk' that should be eliminated. But they make the laws to benefit themselves. Imagine in private industry - taking days off for months on end to go on interviews?
