HOUSTON -- At the moment, Rick Perry's camp confirms the governor still plans to participate in Wednesday night's GOP debate in California.
The governor's campaign just released his schedule showing two events in California after the debate. It appears he will leave the wildfires to appear Wednesday night in California and will continue on with planned fundraisers Thursday and Friday. It appears his brief break from campaigning hasn't hurt.

He hinted strongly at this in his morning appearances with the MSM. Things like he had a good team, his lt. gov is a good man, etc. The best thing for him to say is that the crisis was serious and he made sure his team was on top of things, that the debate is also important and that like any good chief executive he can handle multiple things at one time.
How much fire was Rick putting out anyway?
You are very wise to see through this I have been watching it for weeks. They can hide now but not for long.
Good in theory but what about running for a second term?
Why not some of these same PerrySites were criticizing Palin for running away, back to AK?
Lol, no attaboys are warranted, for Perry or his defenders on this subject. He should not have been thinking aloud about this, but should have just announced it if he'd made any decision to not attend.
Probably both, He will be condemned for leaving the debates to support fire relief AND for returnin to the debates and abandoning his post.
(He can’t be right no matter what he does.)
No one at the fire will miss him, I am sure he was doing anything..
He should stay in Texas. There’s plenty of time for these “debates” that aren’t worth a bucket of warm spit.
I'm only referring to when a person currently in office runs for another. When they do that they are no longer doing what they are being paid for.
And, when they leave office we no longer call them whatever position they were in,. These offices are ours, not theirs.
Thank God I was bummed it would be the same boring bunch again. I look forward to seeing how Governor Perry does.
What kind of a vapid and intellectually inept moron would choose a presidential candidate based on some perceived sleight from an internet supporter?
It’s embarrassing and amusing at the same time that you not only posted this pathetic drivel once, but actually didn’t think better of it in time to stop yourself from repeating it.
OK. I like it in theory.
Best to Texans and the firefighters from all over on hand. Praying for rain.
After tomorrow, the next debate is Monday the 12th, with another on the 22nd.
Since the trashers tend to belong to one camp in particular, I must ask: Where is Sarah Palin?
Perry needs to resign as governor and spend his full time running for president.
And these fires are Bush's fault.
Right on. And I too have been saying for a long time and way before Perry started his governor/running-for-president, juggling act.
The Texas Legislature is not in session and wont be again until 2013. Gov. Perry could recall them into an Emergency Session, if some critical new or revised laws were needed.
Doesnt matter...the Lt. governor has constitutionally more power it seems in Texas anyways....could he mandate girls in his state to go out and smother the fires with their bodies?
