URBANDALE, Iowa (AP) — Sarah Palin is making a surprise appearance at a suburban Des Moines restaurant.

And she was greeted there Friday night with chants of "Run, Sarah, run!"

Hundreds of fans jammed into the Iowa Machine Shed, with the backroom of the farm-themed restaurant overflowing, as people from as far away as Texas, Florida and California strained for a glimpse of the former Alaska governor....

Like a Family Reunion, Sarah and Todd Rock the Machine Shed; Updated
Posted on September 03 2011 - 2:08 AM - Posted by: Nicole Coulter

###

I am still in disbelief. I wasn’t even going to make this trip to Indianola. It’s a 16-hour drive from Hershey, Penn. But, not wanting to miss a chance to mingle with the Palinistas, and hear the Governor’s big speech, I lugged my three lovable kids along … they watched a grand total of eight full-length movie DVDs over two days in the mini-van, and I nearly finished the Atlas Shrugged audio book.

And in a surprise twist … at the Machine Shed tonight we got to hug Sarah Palin and shake the First Dude’s hand, and tell them how much we love their family, and support them.

Worth it, huh? I’ve met the Governor a couple of times briefly, but it was special to be there this time with my children. They were more interested in the gift shop in the lobby as it were. Oh welll …

I told them … “Well, you just got to meet the next president. How does it feel?” The moment was somewhat lost on them given their young ages of 9, 7, and four.

Special thanks to Peter, Michelle, Alex, and all the others who made the night possible. I also know Karen Allen and her family drove 16 hours from North Carolina. Whoo hoo!

The atmosphere in the Machine Shed restaurant was electric. I had heard that people started gathering there as early as 5 p.m. Media people were swirling around with their cameras and notepads.

I briefly chatted with our old friend Scott Conroy, and a reporter from the L.A. Times.

Between 7 and 8 p.m. the crowd just became huge, especially once the busload of Texans4Palin pulled up. Outside in the lobby area and gift store, dozens of Palinistas milled about with their buttons, shirts, and signs.

It was like a gigantic family reunion. And it was a diverse crowd – old, young, families, singles, of all ethnic backgrounds, and orientations.

Once inside the reserved room, there were about 20 packed tables.

It was awesome to meet some of the longtime posters here whom I’d never met, including Nancy, and to reunite with friends I’d gotten to know at previous meet-ups. And Frank Aquila was there with his new book Sarah Palin Out of Nowhere. I plan to do a full review later, but you need to check it out on Amazon.

The Governor and Todd entered through a side door and came right down our aisle. A couple quick thoughts about meeting her again.

She looks really strong, tanned and healthy. I would say, she’s looking very fit for the rigors of the campaign trail. Ha! And Todd … he is looking very fit for any kind of trail!

It’s amazing Gov. Palin can even concentrate with all the noisy stampede around her, but she takes her time with each person. She signed people’s books. She asked all three of my kids for their names and where we were from.

Upon hearing we’re from Hershey, her eyes lit up, she said she loved “Hershey” and I could tell she was craving some chocolate. I wish I would have brought her some for the s’mores she loves.

I gotta get some sleep now … but God Bless all the Palinistas here in Iowa … as well as the ones who are making the trip with us virtually.

We are all a giant family. And tomorrow we get to hear from the Mama Grizzly herself.

Update by Ron Devito of US4Palin:

CLIVE, IA – Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and her husband Todd tonight held a special meet and greet session with over 150 supporters at the Machine Shed Restaurant.

They entered the restaurant to a throng of reporters and supporters shouting “Run, Sarah Run!” Gov. Palin spent nearly 30 minutes shaking hands, hugging, and bonding with her supporters.

She signed tee shirts, books, posters, and bare arms. As this story goes to press, one man who had his arm signed is on the way to a 24-hour tattoo shop to have the former Alaska Governor’s signature made permanent.

Gov. Palin shook my hand shortly after entering. She signed my O4P NY tee shirt, as I said to her, “Take New York. Take the heart of it. Take it all….all 29 electoral votes. Do it for my wife. Do it for my mother. Do it for all the little girls of this country.” My meeting with her concluded with a hug from Gov. Palin, followed by a handshake with Todd.

The former Alaska Governor did not address supporters at the Conservatives4Palin-sponsored event, however, Peter Singleton, Iowa State Coordinator, Organize4Palin did. The Palins sat and listened to his address, followed by final bonding with supporters.

A 21-minute 1080p HD video of this bonding session will be ready in approximately four to six hours.

Bingo on that, Wife and I could make the poor church mouse appear affluent, but we have raked together 1,000 bucks for Sarah. And if she doesn’t run, it will go to no other.

Palin didn't even serve out her entire term as governor in Alaska.

Do you think Perry will serve out his current term? Didn’t he make a promise to fulfill his term? Didn’t he make that promise, in part, to secure his reelection? If any ordinary merchant did that sort of thing, sell one product but deliver another, wouldn't it be called bait and switch?

By contrast, are you aware of some promise that Palin didn't keep? I’m not. Oh, her oath of office? But she kept that oath, she kept her promises to the people of Alaska. Her oath of office required her to be faithful to the US and Alaskan constitutions. She was. It also required her to carry out her duties faithfully to the best of her ability. She did. That’s it. Oath done. Nothing in there about not resigning for a good cause, like, say, running for President, or campaigning hard to oust the Democrat dominated congress, or to save her own state government from being intentionally paralyzed by Obama's DNC legal attack machine.

Whereas Perry made an explicit promise not to run for president. He broke that promise. That's not anybody's fault but his own, and sorry, but it does predict future breach of promise. My dad always told me, son, if you want to know what someone is going to do, you look at what they've done. It's a harsh but reliable rule. And it argues against Perry, and for Palin, when it comes to keeping promises.

BTW, here’s something for you to chew on about that oath of hers. If she hadn’t resigned, I would not now be able to support her. Why? She would have had to break her oath to stay in office. By staying and collecting a tax-funded paycheck while legally paralyzed and unable to fulfill her duties to the best of her ability, she would have been in standing violation of that oath.

But because she was and is a person of character, she instinctively looked for a better way to serve, even under those difficult circumstances, and took that seldom trodden path of voluntarily relinquishing power, even though it had the potential to end her political career, because it was best for the people of Alaska. People of character are like that. They do what is right, even when it costs them dearly.

Keep her promises? Yes she did. Does she keep my support from here to the finish line? Yes she does. Sorry, just the way it is. You’ll have to fish or cult bait … somewhere else.

Wife and I watched “The Undefeated” on dish network, (channel 538) cost was $4.79 cents and to put it mildly, was money very well spent. (it is also available on other pay per view networks and venues)

The film lays out and clarifies her career and why her enemies are working so hard to destroy her, for she is the greatest threat they have ever faced. These elitist powers be they democrat or republican , are watching closely as to how many people see the film. for it is a direct indication as to the support for Sarah Palin.

So for everyone who says they support Palin, now is the time to step forward and make a less than five dollar investment to show that support is for real, at a time it is most needed. And, spread the word to others, via email, by posting on websites, blogs and verbally.

Sarah Palin had no involvement whatsoever in the making of this independent film, neither editorial control or financial investment

What a great after action report. I could feel the electricity and magic, just reading it.

Think of it. She just showed up unannounced at a gathering of people who are die hard organizers for her potential campaign, and bonded with everyone she could. She then sat and listened to that organization’s state coordinator give a short talk to the crowd, who all had but one though on their minds, “Run, Sarah, Run!”

After tonight, how can anyone doubt that she’s going to step into the race?

I have a better chance of getting a date with Katy Perry, than Sarah Palin endorsing Perry.

I've a sneaking suspicion this is a very inaccurate statement.

My wife and I went to see The Undefeated when it played here in Grapevine, Texas. The house was close to full, and we were told that nearly every showing had similar attendance.

If the ‘powers that be’ in the two major parties are watching numbers on The Undefeated, they can count my multiple DVD purchases as soon as it becomes available.

The drones are all walking away from their previous pronouncements that Sarah Palin would be without a doubt, take it to the bank, for sure declaring her intent to run today.

The fuse has been lit.

You can say that again! I've been feeling, sensing The Moment coming for a couple of weeks now, and it's given me a whole different orientation toward interactions on the forum.

I've already seen that the long internecine war we've been having with her detractors is over, and that it's time to get to work for Sarah's election. They lost, we won. Game on, Mr. pResident!

it doesn’t look like he promised not to run ... not exactly ... but certainly said he wouldn’t run.

He said to the voters of Texas that he wouldn't run for president. That was a promise, and he broke it.

Now, Windflier, for Pete's sake, get your politicians straight. If it had been Palin who had said she wasn't going to run for President and then four months later jumped in the race, it would have represented a broken promise. But it was Perry, so we know that it was just a simple change in plans!

/s

All the more poignant, as today I read a couple of posts from a Perry supporter knocking Palin that Palin couldn't be trusted because she didn't finish doing what she said she was going to do -- be governer of Alaska. His guy Perry, on the other hand -- well, see, that's different! *rolls eyes*
