The bad news for Palin fans? If NROs Robert Costa and CNNs Peter Hamby are right, tomorrows not the day. The good news? Per Hamby, the day may still be coming.
The source said Palin is attempting to burnish her image as an outsider and a reformer, reminding the audience of her record in Alaska and specifically highlighting her battles against what she called the states corrupt Republican political class that was in cahoots with the oil and gas industry.
Palin plans to unleash a furious criticism of crony capitalism and attack the permanent political class in both parties: thinly veiled criticisms of Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has surged to the top of most polls for the Republican presidential nomination.
Political opponents have long accused Perry, who has held some form of elected office since 1985, of rewarding his allies and campaign donors with plum government posts and contracts.
Though she has no plans to mention Perry or any other Republican presidential hopeful by name, Palin will implicitly contrast herself against the current crop of GOP candidates and further define her brand in case she does decide to run.
Scott Conroy of RCP got a preview of the speech too and also seized on those phrases as veiled digs at Perry. Whether thats a case of him and Hamby reading things the same way independently or, more significantly, whether their sources inside Palins camp are pushing that reading on them, I cant tell. If she does end up taking a dig at Perry, the only reason to do it is that shes planning to announce herself in a few weeks. Criticizing him just to criticize him would be unthinkable given the mileage the left will get out of it, but it makes sense if shes running per her Ill jump in if theres no one else to carry the banner rationale from months ago. She needs to distinguish herself from Perry somehow in order to justify that logic and this would be one way. (Conroy notes that shell also tout her record as governor, another sign that shes in.) But dont jump to conclusions: Much depends on how all this is framed in the speech. By permanent political class, she may mean the Beltway; and the attack on crony capitalism might be aimed explicitly at Obama, with good reason. Who knows? She could throw us a curveball by praising Perry or the other nominees outright in the speech. Or maybe tomorrows the day after all and the leaks to Costa and Hamby that shes not announcing are merely a feint designed to throw the media off her trail.
John Fund thinks shes not running and will probably end up endorsing Perry, but if Hamby and Conroy are right about those veiled digs, that endorsement will be highly nuanced indeed. Via the Right Scoop, heres her old pal Karl Rove on Fox this morning warning her that shes doing damage to her prospective candidacy with this endless game of in or out?. Is he right? Her core supporters will forgive her anything, but Rasmussens latest finds 52 percent of Republicans think it would be bad for the GOP if she jumped in. No doubt Rick Perry agrees. Does Mitt Romney? Click the image to watch.
She doesn’t have the option of not announcing, but running later.
I honestly don’t think she can win the nomination if she does announce. If she doesn’t, then the moment will have passed her by - if it didn’t pass her by a month ago.
You cannot win without organization, and Palin has none.
Letting the MSM do your thinking for you? It's just stunning to me how some people are allowing themselves to be manipulated by the ruling class establishment.
Relax. Palin knows what she's doing and will step in soon.
Oh it was nasty back home too, but not even close to Iowa. I have the lake breeze to help keep it a tad bit cooler.
No mob behavior there.
I’m no noob.
But I recognize mob behavior when I see it.
Guess you’re not big on....Free Speech.
Having gotten out of hand, with You specifically an not gotten zotted after I had unwittingly crossed the line, into expletives. pretty sure JR believes in it.
He was kind enough to warn me publicly.
expletives are far less, than trying to intimidate.
You ought to be ashamed, that’s the act of a liberal.
Why should she give up her strategic advantage?
To make it "fair" for the RINOs and 'Rats?
Palin is coming, and the Tea Party is coming with her.
Who you calling a fool? Fool.
Besides you can cancel my vote, just vote for Obams. Problem solved.

So you still haven't bothered to honestly inform yourself of her record. I guess you're too busy criticizing her to find out for yourself. Geeez....
I took exception to someone who just popped up on this forum chiming in with the PDSers. The statement I responded to, sounded for all the world like something an infiltrator would spout.
You ought to be ashamed, thats the act of a liberal.
You saying that just shows how wacked in the head you are about Sarah Palin. You're actually defending the statement, "Isn't it time for her to go away?" and castigating me for having the temerity to object to it.
Your world is obviously hung upside down, friend.
Take your insults elsewhere rookie. I won't put up with them.
I don't read the MSM and don't watch the news.
I'm tired of Palin's cat n mouse games.
If you believe she knows what she's doing, fine. Leave it at that and keep your sh!t to yourself.
I'll have my wife scan through the program guides for tomorrow and see if she can find it. I'll let you know if she does.
At first, I was the biggest GWB supporter on the block. He let me down in so many ways. I look at Perry & see GWB all over again but much much worse. (Bush was great in some respects).
To the extent that I can see & hear & think & reason, Sarah Palin is the real deal. She really loves this country & The Constitution. She will be faithful as a President.
Rick Perry has held to policies & decisions in the past that scare the crap out of me. If we're supposed to shrug off Al Gore, Gardasil, The TTC & Perry's participation in a Secret Society known to favor One World Government, then shouldn't we also shrug off RomneyCare and give Mitt the same benefit of the doubt Perry-bots demand of us?
Where did I say Obama was experienced to be President?
THEY ARE BOTH UNQUALIFIED! He is in over his head and she’d be equally in over her head if she had the job.
Anytime someone attacks Palin’s inexperience, you Palinstinians immediately pull out the “Obama Card” as if it’s some kind of defense, when infact it highlights why Palin shouldn’t be in the White House either.
I'll comment as I see fit, thank you very much.
You're not the first person who I've seen express exasperation with waiting for Palin, but your comment caught me at the right moment to reply to what I see as too many otherwise intelligent people allowing themselves to be sucked into blatant manipulation by the enemy.
They want you to give up Palin. That's what all of these negative polls and all of the hoopla about her being in or out of the race is about. Your resolve is being tested.
I'll leave you alone, but just know that you're going to see a lot more of this in the coming months. Keep your own counsel and do what you think is best.
Maybe, that was not your intention, and I could be wrong.
I'm ambivalent on Palin. If she gets in,..great. If she does get in, and acts in a way to ensure another Obama term, not so much.
I like her as an advocate for the cause. Any thing she does to preserve that...fine by me.
But. At the end of the day, the Cause...counts.
If you are Palin before Principle, so be it. I'll finish, with her words.
(on Perry no less)
If at the end of the line hes the one left standing, I would be extremely enthused about him because Im a believer in ABO anybody but Obama. So, absolutely. But theres still a long time in this process, Palin said,
I’m not going to argue, so Im making one point.
GWB ran on the most conservative domestic platform ever.
Privatizing Social(ist In)security.
They said it could not be done.
He did it, on PRINCIPLE. and Won.
then...
Real Life intervened in the form of 9/11.
If that’s what Perry is, God Bless Him.
I’m almost starting to believe she might take the second spot on the ticket if she can run with someone she believes in. And we already know she approves of Rick Perry
My hope is, she gets in. Takes the Arrows, and stays off the ticket.
Call it what you like, but Palin has been as viciously attacked on Free Republic as at any no-holds-barred liberal site on the net, despite the founder's statement that "FR is Palin Country", and despite the fact that this is supposed to be a conservative meeting place.
You would think that vile attacks against one of the nation's leading conservative patriots would simply NOT be tolerated here, but such is the depth of Jim Robinson's forebearance with fools and the befuddled.
(courtesy ping to JR)
The trashing of Perry and others is worse.
