I hope they opt NOT to run his speech, but let’s play some football!

Let's put aside our own partisanship for a minute. Obama needs to give a speech about the economy and what he's going to do about helping it create jobs, and he needs to do so in bipartisan terms. That is what most people are looking for from their President.

If, instead, Obama resorts to a petulant snipe-fest in which he tries to score debating points against his potential 2012 rivals - he will turn off a huge share of his audience and confirm for many what they already think of him - that he is shallow, partisan and non-Presidential.

Now, it is certainly not out of the question that he will make such a huge mistake (given his equally huge ego), but I would be shocked if his political advisors (David Plouffe, Valerie Jarrett) allowed it. Instead, look for a nominally even-handed "let's-all-work-together-for-the-greater-good" kind of speech, peppered with occasional hints that the GOP needs to agree to meet him halfway.

he can huff and puff all he wants...nobody will be watching. I personally will pick it up on a FReeper thread while I watch the really important event, Thursday Night football.

No one buys nachos and beer to watch the president. The NFL game is a job creator/stimulus to economy, Obama’s speech, pfffft.

After his performance in office, maybe he should bow to the Burger King.

The Burger King just lost his job, too.

I’ll be watching football as well, both because I’m a rabid fan and also because the sound of Obama’s voice now makes me physically ill.

"The WSJ version leaves out facts favorable to Boehner and leads one to believe 0 warned the GOP of the date and time ahead of informing the press.

Ala Clinton, one must carefully parse what has been said. The administration claims they "coordinated" with Boehner before they released the letter requesting the meeting. That is probably literally true (and the "coordinating" apparently consisted of informing Boener's office to expect a letter).

However, before the official letter, the administration leaked this to the press. My take is they leaked the information first, called Boehner's office after that, THEN they released the official letter. You have to carefully parse what comes out of this administration. Of course that is expecting to much of the LSM.

On Fox this morning, even Geraldo Rivera (who I certainly do not consider a right-winger) said it was nonsense that the administration didn't realize they would step on the debate (he used a nore colorful word, but I will spare you).

By the way, no matter what the President wanted it could not have been on Tuesday, because the House is not called to session until Wednesday.

But it doesn't need to be up against the NFL - does anybody seriously believe the President will have anything to say that is so urgent that it could not wait another week?

I'm already getting sick of the LSM trumpeting that this is first time in history a Presidential request for a joint session has been turned down. Of course there is no mention that this is the first time in history the administration didn't have the common courtesy to check with his host before inviting himself.

"What has Barak The Weenie done? Other than wreck.

I think the President has had a very stimulating effect ... on any number of golf courses. He's helping keep the price of jet fuel from falling by using so much of it. There is also an ice cream stand in Martha's Vineyard that has benefitted from actions of the President. And the makers of "Miss Me Yet?" merchandise are having a very strong year. I understand firms with expertise in bumper sticker removal are also seeing a big pickup in their business (at least in the blue states).

See, there's no President so bad that he doesn't have SOME positive effect for SOMEONE! I think this President has come close, but ...

EBH,

What we CAN do is keep pushing for the release of the information NOW. After all, if it is SOOOOO critical to immediate job creation, we should get the info NOW! (As opposed to waiting another 3 years, or 4 months, or whatever.)

His unwillingness to reveal the info without showboating will expose him as the fraud he is. He could have released a jobs plan before his vacation, but that would have smacked of something too much like a genuine plan instead of a stunt.

If he really wanted to avoid scheduling conflicts, he should have scheduled it for early next week. He didn’t. Not that I intended to watch anyway. I catch the gist the next day, after the “bla bla” has been stripped away.

“I hadn’t planned on watching regardless the schedule.”

Precisely!!! I cannot stand looking at his smug face, and he has absolutely nothing to say that is worth anyone’s time.
