President Obama faces political catastrophe in the form of Solyndra -- a San Francisco Bay area solar company that he touted as a gleaming example of green technology. It has announced it will declare Chapter 11 bankruptcy. More than 1,100 people will lose their jobs.

No, none of the Fiats. Have seen a number of the Nissan Leaf about.

This is conservative Ag. territory (Riverside, Ca.) that has been overun the past ten-twelve years by the flight of libs running from the results of liberalism. They of course are currently buying Smart cars, and electric cars whereas up until a couple of years ago they were buying Hummers.

We are conservatives that fled the results of liberalism 24 years ago. We keep our eleven year old cars running as long as we can.

Demo sales don’t figure in the monthly sales totals for auto OEMs. The reason that GM sold so few Volts last month was that they have so few to deliver, as the Hamtramck production line was down for over a month for retooling for the model year change. The 2011 Volt was kind of a beta model.

You may know this, but many do not - monthly auto sales (such as will be announced tomorrow) are sales from the manufacturer to dealers and fleet customers. They are not sales off the dealer lots.

Nissan has more Leafs to deliver, and they cost significantly less than the Volt. Don’t get me wrong - I fully expect the Volt to fail miserably. It’s just not right to say that it’s failing now (tho’ the signs are definitely bad) when sales are so terribly constrained by supply. Let them get the supply out there, then we can see the real numbers. I don’t expect them to be good.

Nobody said anything about demo sales, only that the 116 cars in inventory don’t include the demo models (at least one per dealership selling them) and therefore the “116” figure doesn’t tell the whole story.

Also, let’s assume that there’s 100 dealers in the seven state area where the Volt is being sold, each with a demo car.

That brings real inventory to 216 and gives a pretty-awful-for-normal-cars more than 45 day supply.

A 45 day supply is actually pretty decent - even a little under normal. What’s awful is GM’s 120 day supply of Chevy Silverados...

Here are some more Obama-cursed green ventures eating dirt.

•Cardinal Fastener & Specialty Co., a Cleveland-based manufacturer of screws and bolts for wind turbines, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Thursday.
President Obama visited Cardinal, which is in Bedford Heights near Cleveland, in January 2009 before his inauguration.

•On Aug. 15, 2011, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported that their city’s green jobs program was a “bust.”
Seattle had won a $20 million federal grant in 2010 to weatherize homes. The goals of the program were to create 2,000 jobs and retrofit 2,000 homes, according to the Seattle P-I.
“But more than a year later, Seattle’s numbers are lackluster. As of last week, only three homes had been retrofitted and just 14 new jobs have emerged from the program,”

•Green Vehicles - Salinas, Calif. Went out of business after spending more than $500,000 in city taxpayer dollars.

•Evergreen Solar Inc. Filed for bankruptcy Aug. 15, 2011, although the Obama administration touted it as “hoping to hire 90 to 100 people.” They had already shuttered a factory in March and cut 800 jobs. They also plan to shut down a plant in Michigan.

Last I’d looked, you want 30 days or less at most.

Yeah, Chevy’s having problems selling the Sierras and Silverados after the F-150 got the new engines this year. The 5.0 F-150 is especially good compared to the aging engine options for the Government Motors trucks.

“Given the ongoing uncertainties in the public capital markets, we elected to pursue alternative funding from our existing investor base. This funding allows us to address strong customer demand by maintaining our aggressive growth plans,” commented Dr. Chris Gronet, CEO of Solyndra. Gronet has a base salary of $400,000.

The company expects the first production from its Fab 2 manufacturing complex to occur in the fourth quarter of 2010, approximately two months ahead of schedule. “Fab 2 can’t come online a minute too soon,” according to Gronet. “We’ve now sold over 300,000 panels for deployment on commercial rooftop sites in a dozen countries. By the fourth quarter of 2011, we expect our annualized production to exceed 300 megawatts, enabling economies of scale that will substantially reduce our manufacturing costs.”

U.S. House panel may subpoena Solyndra over loan
FEDERAL AID
June 25, 2011|By Jim Snyder, Bloomberg News

Solyndra CEO Chris Gronet (right) with Vice President Ben Bierman (left) explains solar technology to President Obama at the Solyndra solar panel company in Fremont last year.

A House panel may seek a subpoena for Obama administration documents related to a $535 million loan guarantee to Solyndra Inc. in Fremont, which closed a factory after winning the aid, a lawmaker said.

An investigation by the House Energy and Commerce Committee is being thwarted because the administration hasn’t responded to lawmaker requests, said Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla. Jeffrey Zients, deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, didn’t show up as scheduled for a hearing Friday on the agency’s role in the loan.

Disaster for Obama?

Why? Is he going to pay for it? It will barely even get reported.

No, it's a disaster for the taxpayer just like all his other "programs".

Surprise!
Another welfare scam masquarading as "Green Industry" bites the dust after running out of "stimulus money." Return on "working taxpayer" investment? Zero.

Kind of the Poster Industry for Hussein's ignorance and incompetence.

You'd think that after four years in the public vortex, Hussein would take time out from his radical agenda, his shopping trips, his golf games and his endless vacations to read this :

Lesson to all. If Obama comes to campaign for you, you're going to lose. If Obama comes to praise your business, you'll be filing for bankruptcy in a year. Be warned Obama has bad juju.

I agree it is idiotic, but not totally a scam, just stupidity

Most Democrats actually believe this stuff, and they make fun of Conservatives for believing in God and not buying in to the theory of evolution destroying any possibility that there is a God

check this:
http://www.oregonlive.com/business/index.ssf/2011/08/pge_and_odot_break_ground_on_s.html

Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez joined Portland General Electric and the Oregon Department Transportation Tuesday to break ground on a $10 million solar array at the Baldock Rest Area on Interstate 5 south of Wilsonville.

Tell me about it. I have the 3-speed 5.3 in my general motors Silverado. Bought at a killer deal (22k for a 34k truck) right before they took the Bush loan at end ‘08, 6 months before they became gov’t mtrs.

First and last new gm I’ll ever own. Unless I can find a NIB 63 ‘vette...

If it's a 3 speed, something is wrong with your transmission. That should be at least a 4 speed.

However, something wrong with it isn't exactly uncommon:

They recently sent the original title and graphic to the memory hole, but the title was 'TOWED: The Wet Sprocket - 32,000 Miles in a Chevy Silverado Pickup' over this image from the review:
