If it's a 3 speed, something is wrong with your transmission. That should be at least a 4 speed.

However, something wrong with it isn't exactly uncommon:

Nice article - thanks. Mine’s a 2008, but no real diff in the truck. It probably is a 4 speed, tho’ I’ve never noticed that 3rd shift up. Stupid AT shifter has 1, 2, and D, and that’s a 3 speed to me. 35 years of driving, and it’s the first automatic I’ve owned.

Hate that part of it. Haven’t had their transmission probs, but it’s a 2wd, Detroit locker aot 4wd. And I only have about 25k on it.
