Andre Carson: Tea party wants blacks 'hanging on a tree'
POLITICO ^ | 8/31/11 | JAKE SHERMAN

A top lawmaker in the Congressional Black Caucus says tea partiers on Capitol Hill would like to see African Americans hanging from trees and accuses the movement of wishing for a return to the Jim Crow era.

Rep. Andre Carson, a Democrat from Indiana who serves as the CBC’s chief vote counter, said at a CBC event in Miami that some in Congress would “love to see us as second-class citizens” and “some of them in Congress right now of this tea party movement would love to see you and me…hanging on a tree.”

Carson also said the tea party is stopping change in Congress, likening it to “the effort that we’re seeing of Jim Crow.”

The explosive comments, caught on tape, were uploaded on the internet Tuesday, and Carson’s office stood by the remarks. Jason Tomcsi, Carson’s spokesman, said the comment was “in response to frustration voiced by many in Miami and in his home district in Indianapolis regarding Congress’ inability to bolster the economy.” Tomcsi, in an email, wrote that “the congressman used strong language because the Tea Party agenda jeopardizes our most vulnerable and leaves them without the ability to improve their economic standing.

“The Tea Party is protecting its millionaire and oil company friends while gutting critical services that they know protect the livelihood of African-Americans, as well as Latinos and other disadvantaged minorities,” Tomcsi wrote. “We are talking about child nutrition, job creation, job training, housing assistance, and Head Start, and that is just the beginning. A child without basic nutrition, secure housing, and quality education has no real chance at a meaningful and productive life.”

Carson is hardly the first lawmaker to use heated rhetoric. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) yelled “you lie” as President Barack Obama was addressing Congress. Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-Texas) yelled “baby killer” at former Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) as abortion was being discussed during the health care debate.

Carson, who represents Indianapolis, is the second Muslim to ever serve in Congress. He has been in office since 2008, and took the seat that was held by his late grandmother — Rep. Julia Carson (D-Ind.).

The hysteria being exhibited by the liberals, particularly the black, race-baiters, indicates the fear they have over potentially losing their power.

To say this "gentleman" is abusing his office would be a serious understatement.

And the Democratic party wants blacks to continue to feel like they're victims. That government is the only thing can save them.

Why doesn’t the House GOP censure Carson for his lies? Force the Democrats to defend or disavow him.

No bias here, eh? How about Maxine Waters screaming that "the Tea Party can go straight to hell!"

That wouldn't be considered heated rhetoric...naw...only white Republicans use heated rhetoric.

Liberals’ statements about the Tea Party “...indicates the fear they have over potentially losing their power”.

I have always thought that the Liberals have ONLY one of two explanations for the idiotic and malicious statements they make about the Tea Party:

1. They have absolutely NO understanding of what the Tea Party is

2. They DO understand what the Tea Party is and their comments are blatant lies.

It can be #1 or it can be #2, BUT...it can’t be both.

Andre Carson is absolutely right!!!

Every Tea Party member I know worships the racist info we read from right wing extremists like Dr Sowell or Walter Williams.

I find it past offensive. It is a lie and I am sure he can offer no evidence whatsoever that any in the Tea Party wants to lynch anyone. It sickens me that he can get away with this crap.

I thought liberals wanted to TONE the rhetoric down? Do you think Obama would step up to the plate and call the Black Caucus on this recent hate speech?

In the case of a congressman, it's definitely #2. They see the Tea Party as a threat to their power, and are reverting to their race-baiting form that has always worked.

BTW, every conservative American would "like to see blacks"

living productive lives, producing stable families with fathers in the home helping to raise the next productive, well educated generation.

exactly the opposite of what we see now.

I know, I know, that wouldn't be "keepin' it real" and it would be "actin' white".

“There is a class of colored people who make a
business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs,
and the hardships of the Negro race before
the public.
Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances,
because they do not want to lose their jobs.
There is a certain class of race-problem solvers
who don’t want the patient to get well.”

Carson is a member of the Democrat’s Socialist caucus. This kind of rhetoric is Alinski 101. Typical Communist demagoguery. He sounds like Lenin himself.

So the Tea Party wants to be more like Democrats?? I find this amazing, the only way this even plays is because so many people in this country are just plain Ignorant. Most everybody that can read knows damn well that EVERY JIM CROW LAW was written and enacted by DEMOCRATS like, AL GORE, FUlbright, Bull Connor.....Lets not forget the KKK is and was The DEMOCRAT PARTY, as far as I can tell Nothing has changed but the tactics used, the Democrats still do everything possible to keep Blacks on the plantation. Wake up America.

They know very well that the TEA Party has nothing to do with race. They are simply trying to fan the flames of racial hate.
