Perry dominates in South Carolina (PPP Poll has Perry up by 23 pts.)
Public Policy Polling ^ | 8/30/11 | PPP

Posted on 08/30/2011 9:43:21 AM PDT by CA Conservative

Raleigh, N.C. – If there was any question that Rick Perry is the new Republican presidential frontrunner before now, PPP’s latest poll of South Carolina confirms it. A week ago, PPP showed Perry jumping to a narrow lead in first-caucus Iowa. Now, he has a double-digit lead in what will likely be the third-voting state. Perry tops with 36% to Mitt Romney’s 16%, Michele Bachmann’s 13%, Herman Cain’s 9%, Newt Gingrich’s 8%, Ron Paul’s 5%, Rick Santorum’s 4%, and Jon Huntsman’s 2%. This is a sea change from when PPP last polled the race in June, with Perry not included. Romney led with 30% to Cain’s and Gingrich’s 15%, Bachmann’s 13%, and Paul’s 10%.

If Sarah Palin joins the fray, it has no impact on Perry’s dominance but a lot on Bachmann’s standing. Palin would place third at 10% behind Perry still at 36%, Romney at 13%, followed by Cain’s 9%, and Bachmann and Gingrich tied at 7%.

“Not that I would be caught dead voting for him. Just sayin’.

On second thought, living in Illinois, I will probably be voting in Chicago after I die but that means not for Nancyboy.”

Probably so, I just hope you don’t start voting democrat before your time if you catch my drift.

Your nonsense about Bush is pathetic. There was NO more conservative candidate available than the conservative governor of the most conservative state in the union. Pretending otherwise is deceptive. Bush was critical after the 911 attacks. Would you have preferred Al Gore? Really?

My previously stated "nonsense" about Bush didn't touch on the Bush announcement out of the blue in 1999, that he had a $70 million dollar war chest.  I'm sure that didn't have any adverse effect on the other potential candidates that year.  And as this relates to Gore, the guy that was supposed to be the only guy that could beat him, barely eaked out a victory.

Okay, it's your take that the Conservative governor of the most Conservative state in the union suddenly became the Bush we had to put up with for eight years.  It was my take then, and it's my take now, that despite some good things, Bush was an abysmal failure for Conservatism.  If for no other reason than what he handed off to Obama, he absolutely crushed our ability to blame Obama for anything for several years.  Bush blew out the national debt by around 92%.  What footing did we have to take Obama to task out of the gate, for overspending?

What were the election results for 2000?  You do remember right?  Would you say that folks saw Bush so much more Conservative, that he blew away the contemptable Al Gore?  In 2004, we saw a repeat of that.  If Bush were the president you think he was, why could he barely eak out a win over the likes of Gore or Kerry?

How can anyone who is politically astute believe MB or Cain is politically viable in ANY way?

Ronald Reagan ran into trouble during the campaign for his first term in office.  He wasn't doing well at all until after January of 1980.  The money wasn't rolling in, and it got so bad, in February he fired the top three campaign staff, the count was up to 13 the following day, and upwards of ten times more left in short order.

Now, what was that you were saying?

Do you know what one of Reagan’s problems was in 1979? He made mis-statements, verbal errors. Should people have written him off back then?

Cain is a breath of fresh air. Having a prominent black voice Conservative ideals from a position of respect, is very important. Don’t ever undermine that.

I have stated that I need to know more about Cain, but that I like very much what I have already seen. That pretty well sums it up for me.

I agree with the populist comment. As for her drawing big crowds, that’s really nice if she’s the person I think would make a great president. I’m not convinced of that.

Romney ain’t so bad, just got to remember to account for the fact that he is a Massachusetts politician.

Don’t be comparing him to McCain who is indeed a traitor to the Conservative cause just like Lindsey Graham.

Politics is the art of the possible, and the possible north of the Mason Dixon line is very much left of center. McCain and Graham ain’t got no excuse, Romney does.

So don’t be comparing those who chooses to betray our prinsales to those who must out of political reality.

Friend of George :

I don't want to rain on your parade BUT..... There is much to what you have to say. OTOH, I will name two pollsters whom I know and who are neither MSM nor Establishment Republican: Lydia Saad who has long been employed by Gallup. Solid professional. Exceptional human being. She may be a rare exception but she is certainly an exception. Also Frank Luntz whose company may do work for NBC but he has always been a conservative since he was Connecticut chairman of Teen-Aged Republicans (TARs) in the Reagan era all too many years ago.

BTW, I think Sarah Palin is a terrific public figure. God bless you and yours.

It’s my take that big wins are produced by the biggest differences.

Look at the Bush races. They were incredibly close. Why? Was it because the populace saw Bush as too radically Conservative? Was it because Bush was seen by many to be another Dole-like moderate?

We gave the voters the Leftist we said they wanted in 2008. How did that work out for us?

I think Perry could beat Obama. That is not my sole criteria here. It’s my job as a Conservative to advocate for the most Conservative person we can loft at this point in the political process.

If that fails, it’s my job to fall in behind someone else, if I don’t think that guy will also cause harm to our nation.

Any candidate who can’t get the border issue straight, causes me to understand that they will do harm to our nation. It telegraphs a mindset that is globalist, far more than my sensitivities will accept.

I have said it before and I mean it. If people want my support in November 2012, nominate someone I can in good conscience vote for.

It’s not my job to vote against people. It’s my job to vote for qualified people, who will not screw us over further.

“Glad you agree....my remark is no more foolish then that you made. Nobody on FR is carrying the democratic agenda. Using that just shows the stupidity of some who cannot come up with facts to debate.”

Whatever. I don’t think you’re nearly as smart as you think you are but I won’t resort to calling you names.

Theory...Palin is letting Perry get out front, take all the flack, be branded by the press as a freaking idiot, going all maniacal, and then she will show up looking like the reasonable one, and the press will lose credibility pivoting a 180 to re-brand her all over again as the candidate from Dopetown....

And I have to say that in his interview with Sean today, Perry sure did a lot of hemming and hawing and stammering about with broken sentences and fractured thoughts, .....makes Sarah sound laser-like scintillating (yes I know she has her Anti-Freeze Beltisms, "make a dill" for "make a deal" is kinda funny).

I expect Palin's announcement in the next 10 days, just in time for the September 12th Tea Party Debate. While one can find an occasional flaw in her conservatism, it isn't like the demolition derby of Perry's positions and repositions.

I did vote for Nancyboy's opponent since, on the social issues that determine my vote, the Dem was no worse and because Illinois needs a GOP on a statewide level and will never have one until conservatives reflexively destroy every Nancyboy vote alike nominated through the machinations of that arm of the Chicago Demonrat machine known as the Illinois GOP.

I also suspect that I would vote Demonrat over any alleged GOP candidate who is a lavender queen. For our next gubernatorial election we are likely to be presented with a "choice" between Pat Quinn, Chicago Demonrat and, ummmm, confirmed bachelor (which may not prove perversion and may simply result from the fact that no woman would have him) the absolutely worst governor of any state that I have ever witnessed and a purported Republican candidate, Illinois's State Treasurer, who has a, ummm, questionable personal reputation as well (Daniel Rutherford). In the election of 2006, we were presented with a "GOP" candidate in Judy Baah Baah Topinka who is a regular at the annual Chicago GLBT perverts' parade. You have to live here to appreciate how even federal convict Blagojevich was a more acceptable candidate. He was a thief but never accused of being or thief. Nancyboy and Topinka and some others claim to be OUR wierdos. Some of us figure: "No Sale!" If social revolutionaries want their taxes lowered, they should have no choice but to vote for social conservatives. The taxes can keep going up until they do.

“Fine. He has an excuse. I still don’t want him to be president.”

Fair enough. Given a choice between him and Perry I’d take Perry too.

But between either of em and Obama I’d take anyone but Obama.

"Bush blew out the national debt by around 92%"

Perry hasn't been exactly stellar on controlling Texas debt. And that's a problem going into the general election.

Future debate exchange:

Perry to Obama: "Look at the scandalous US government deficit!"

Obama to Perry: "Look at the scandalous Texas government deficit!"
