Beware of Rick Perry 'The Latest Idiot Cowboy' (Muslim Media Warns)
aljazeera.net ^

If you find yourself wondering how it was you missed the whole 4th season of Walker, Texas Ranger, while forcing yourself to attend Lamaze classes with your significant other. If on cool, crisp days the aforementioned tragedy causes you to wistfully wonder how to fill the emptiness inside - let me introduce you to the Rick Perry for President Campaign.

Perry, who has seemingly been Governor of Texas since around the time when remaining at The Alamo began to look like a questionable career move, is now ready to throw his 10-gallon hat, frothy intellect and custom-made cowboy boots into the national political ring.

Predictably, Democrats are laughing. He's just another dumb Texan. Another mentally challenged Republican. He's Reagan. And George W Bush. He can't win.

Does anyone else see the problem with this line of reasoning? Shhh, don't tell anyone, but Reagan and Bush The Younger served as president for roughly 50 per cent of the past 30 years.

Of course Perry can win, and in fact, if the Obama team keeps thinking that "patent reform" is the new WPA and continues to show that fighting Dukakis spirit, I'd go so far as to give Perry the advantage should he secure the GOP nomination...

Gov. Rick Perry’s friendly relationship with some Texas Muslims was touted in a recent story on Salon.com.

While some other presidential candidates bring up concerns about American Muslims’ loyalty and decry Islamic law in the U.S., here’s a Christian, Republican politician who initiated a teacher-training program on Islamic history and has been friends for years with the Aga Khan, head of an Islamic sect called Ismailis, Salon points out. Perry even laid the first brick at the groundbreaking ceremony for an Ismaili worship center in Plano in 2005.

According to Ismaili national spokesman Mahmoud Eboo, the premise of the Salon story is true, and despite criticism for his Christians-only prayer rally, Perry serves on behalf of all Texans “regardless of race, color or faith.”

The governor — like other American politicians (everyone from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to President John F. Kennedy) — has built a relationship with the Aga Khan based on respect and mutual interest, one that could be carried into the White House if Perry runs and gets elected.

“His Highness (the Aga Khan) will continue to work with our leaders, whether it’s Gov. Perry or anyone else,” said Eboo. “The fact that His Highness already knows the governor is advantageous.”

Ismaili Muslims, a group that numbers between 30,000 to 40,000 in Houston where the organization is headquartered, are not predisposed to any political party, but Perry has seen support from Texas Ismailis as well as Muslims from the bigger Sunni and Shia traditions.

“The Muslim community has a significant number of political conservatives, and they do support Perry,” said Mustafaa Carroll, executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations in Houston, a group that took a position against Perry’s recent Christian-only prayer rally.

I have given up finding a candidate who really understands the dangers of islam in America. They are all a bunch of wimps.

I think its about time the USA had a cowboy as President again. Time to get back where we were before. We need to make sure we stand for something again. I believe such a man will inspire a new respect and even love of America in the 3rd world. They respect Putin’s Russia—ever wonder why? They know he hates Arabs and their Moon God. Say what you like—Putin doesn’t bow to anyone.

I live in Texas.

He balanced our previous budget using federal stimulus money.

K-12 “education” is 45% of the state budget (this doesn’t include all the property taxes paid statewide). The Army National Guard, Air National Guard and Texas State Guard combined are about .9% of the current budget. Half the state is deploying to Afghanistan with limited funds for training, while the ISDs are getting bigger, better trained uniformed police forces to arrest kids for bringing the wrong kind of pencil sharpeners to class.

He’s a really really really big government conservative (note your Guardasil and Texas corridor issue).

Many of the folks here on FR who love him are either not from Texas and just don’t know better or are big government Republicans.

“The nation[U.S.] has over $2 trillion in infrastructure and social needs, and there is over $3 trillion in public sector pension funds,” said Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers and the leader of a group of public sector unions in the A.F.L.-C.I.O. that is studying the issue. “The question is, are there financially prudent ways to invest working men’s and women’s capital to create jobs and rebuild America’s infrastructure?” [end excerpt] Source

*******************

AFL-CIO Announces Commitment to Promote Large-Scale Infrastructure Investments …….AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said:

”We at the AFL-CIO believe that together, with our partners in business and government, we can profitably invest at least $10 billion in workers’ capital over the next five years in public infrastructure projects to make America more competitive and energy-efficient.”

AFT [American Federation of Teachers 1.5 million members] President Randi Weingarten and AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades President Mark Ayers will announce the initiative at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting and describe the partnership with investors, the government and businesses.

Teachers Union Prez Heads to Egypt: Should Obama Be Worried? …. [AFT] American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten recently led a delegation of union representatives to Cairo, Egypt to meet with “leaders of Egyptian unions that were instrumental in the recent political and governmental changes there,” according to a news release issued by the union.

Whoa. Are public sector unions planning a similar “regime change” here in America?

If not, why would Weingarten be cavorting in the Middle East at a time when American public schools are seeing massive dropout rates, budget reductions and reforms that strike at the base of union power?.....”

I’ve never understood the bro-ha-ha about Guardasil.

It’s a good vaccine, despite what the luddites say.

He was delegated the power to require vaccines by the legislature.

The repeat objection was “my kid is sinless and will never need it.” Yeah, mine, too — I hope.

The 'friendly relationship' of Gov. Perry with "Texas Muslims" is being intentionally exaggerated by his opponents.

Last week, Salon’s Justin Elliott highlighted Rick Perry’s ties to the Aga Khan, the leader of the Ismaili sect of Shia Islam ... a persecuted Shia minority in Saudia Arabia. This story tells us more about Salon, Politico and other left-of-center media outlets than about Perry. Rather than engage on the substantive issues as regards to Islamism and the extent of the threat of groups with political motivations and histories of terrorist links, Elliott and Smith refuse to take their opponents seriously, thinking they’re ‘poking the cage’ of a Republican base too unsophisticated to know the difference between the Ismaili sect and, say, the Muslim Brotherhood.

Actually, the repeated objection was, "It isn't the government's busiess to prescribe what vaccines people of any age should get."

And it still isn't.

“I’ve never understood the bro-ha-ha about Guardasil. It’s a good vaccine, despite what the luddites say.”

Well, the issue is that the government would decide whether or not the risks outweighed the rewards and not the parents or the individual.

So, you see, the “big deal” is the idea that the government always knows best, even when run by a “conservative.”

If you want to get it for your kid (I would if I had a daughter), knock yourself out. If you don’t than that’s your business, not the governor of Texas’s. To those of us who actually think we make better decisions than bureaucrats, it’s kind of a big deal.
