NOAA said that maximum average wind speeds at landfall were 85 MPH, hurricane winds stretching outwards for 90 miles. In fact, only two locations even had gusts over 85 MPH.

The worst hurricane in all human history was Katrina. We are still paying its victims and will for decades more.

Of course, we were paying Katrina victims for decades *before* the storm hit. What does that tell you?

I don’t care how strong the winds were. All I know is that I spent the entire day getting my pool and backyard back to its former glory. I’m exhausted.

New York economy takes MULTI-BILLION hit from Irene on vital weekend... as experts warn U.S. clean-up cost will outstrip Katrina
• Last weekend of August is usually key for New York’s $1.4tn annual output
• But direct hit would have flooded subway and acres of expensive real estate
• Damage cost of Hurricane Irene across East Coast estimated at up to $45bn
• Non-functioning economy in New York for four days will have huge impact
• Insurance premiums will rise and businesses across the city have suffered

I’m with you cumbo. Of COURSE this storm was overhyped and Team Obama is trying to turn it into some sort of photo opportunity. However, there are hundreds of thousands of people without power in Maryland and in many other states. It surely wasn’t the storm of the century, but some areas took a very hard hit from this storm.

It’s disgusting to see Team Obama try to spin this into showing that he’s a leader. He couldn’t lead a two man parade.

Due to Irene related fears, me and another guy in training to deploy servers and other POS gear to a large brand of stores got to work a 19 hour day to cram 2 1/2 days events into one. It has taken me a few days to get right more or less body-clockwise.

The eye passed east of my house

First ... I am not a meteorologist. I just happen to live in a coastal county on the Texas Gulf Coast. My knowledge of tropical systems is primarily through experience, not training. I had nearly $20,000 worth of H. Ike damage. It seems every year (but this one) at least a tropical depression blows through.

When did Irene have an eye? I started paying attention when it hit North Carolina. It didn't have an eye then. Only the most organized and developed tropical systems have an eye. I'm sure there were strong winds associated with H. Irene, but I never saw an eye in North Carolina or afterward. Where is your house? The Sargasso Sea?

You'd care if you had hurricane force winds. You'd be trying to figure out how to repair tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage instead of skimming your pool and raking crap out of your yard.

We have all said a prayer for those in the path of this storm. Many of us did it days ago! I don’t think we should let our opinions of the whole hype and coming political grandstanding for more tax payer money be ‘put up’ at all though!

Only a liberal would try to shut everyone up by claiming there are ‘victims’ and we should just stop talking! Good grief..of course it is sad that there are victims of this storm system, but let’s put it in perspective for cryin out loud! A few of them were killed in car wrecks and one was likely drunk. We sometimes lose that many people in Texas everytime there is a bad thunderstorm system that moves through the state and we have been suffering terrible electrical disruptions on millions of people all summer.

We need to get ready, because Obama and the democrats are going to try and use this run of the mill tropical storm to ram more ‘stimulus’ type spending down our throats because they didn’t budget enough money for FEMA disaster relief. They SPENT IT ALL ON NONSENSE AND CRONIES and now we are just entering the hurricane season with no money in the coffers (or so they say)!

Obama and his entire executive branch SHOULD be ridiculed and brought up for congressional hearings about all of the damn money that has just gone missing since he took office!

(end rant)

How many cities and towns, since Hurricane Gloria in 1985, have passed and imposed tree cutting and trimming regulations, permit requirements, and fines for those who don’t comply.

And at the same time these communities have used taxpayer funds to install massive generators to run the city hall and police facilities and other bureaucracy structures.

You sheeple deserve to live in the dark when you allow your rulers to treat you live slaves.

Some of these claims sound ridiculous on their face. Supposedly the last weekend in August is when everyone does their back to school shopping, and therefore it is "crucial" to the economy.

But isn't the biggest shopping day supposedly the day after Thanksgiving?

And does anybody really think that shopping for back to school supplies is a major part of the economy of New York City - more important than say the financial industry?

Yes it is disgusting to see him acting like he is in charge. We made sure our farm was as ready as it could be for Irene. I have just gotten power back. I have trees down & my basement flooded but I am pretty sure we can handle it ourselves. We had enough notice here in NJ. Maybe we needed a wake up call to show my state what can & does happen when a hurricane hits since we really have not had any in a long time. Let 0 go back to his golf game or whatever it is he does ....

It must be nice living where you live without any laws, ordinances and government to worry about. Yep, must be nice. BTW, I’ll have to get down town to see that massive generator that runs the three room town hall we do have and the police department we don’t have.

Keep shooting from the lip
