Because he’s trying to show that his response to Irene is “better” than Bush’s response to Katrina, which is like comparing apples to oranges.
actually wasn’t it obama that said today “well we’re not out of the woods yet” or maybe someone else. At the same time I saw that on CNN while working out the sun was shining in NYC

Not with his record. Not with the economy. Not will all the people all over the country whose natural disasters he has completely ignored.
He won't win in 2012. His ugly legacy will live on, but he will be out of office in January 2013, and we can start rebuilding the country he is trying so hard to destroy.

This will NOT do what he wants it to do. In fact, it will most likely have the opposite effect.
Indeed. Katrina was a Cat five which made landfall as a cat three just east of New Orleans. Everyone thought they had dodged the bullet until the levee was breached and the 9th Ward was flooded (oh, I forgot — Bush blew the levee up so that black people would die or lose their homes /sarc). There was an incompetent Mayor who didn’t follow the evacuation plan for New Orleans. And whose idea was it to make the Super Dome (or whatever it’s called) the refuge of last resort, when it’s right in the flood plain??? Then there was an incompetent Governor. In addition, Bush was constrained in his response by posse comatatis.
Irene, otoh, made landfall as a relatively weak cat 1. True, it was slow and is causing a lot of flooding, but it’s nothing on the scale of Katrina. Obama had cooperative Governors and Mayors in every state, with well-thought-out LOCAL evacuation plans and good coordination and execution of those LOCAL plans. No comparison.
I’m sure it will be something to the effect that it could’ve been a lot worse but wasn’t because he handled it so much better than Bush handled Katrina, or some crap like that.
Unfortunately there are more than a few right here on FR.
Those of us with experience in these matters are so happy that this thing wasn’t major but there’s almost a desperation afoot to make it so.
I know why Zero and his bunch are trying to blow this out of proportion and of course the media wants a sensational story but why are average people freaking out?
I hope they NEVER experience a real hurricane. They might commit mass suicide or something!
Which is why this little PR game won't go anywhere. Even if the American people are stupid enough to blame Bush for Katrina (some are), they are at least smart enough to remember that Katrina was a horrible, horrible natural disaster and Irene is just big and wet.
(And it might be nice to point out to anyone who never realized it that Mississippi got the worst of it and recovered better because they DID have a competant Governor).

That’s right. A few months after Katrina, my husband and I traveled to Houston from Atlanta and spent the night in New Orleans on our way back (in fact, I heard Nagin make his “chocolate city” comment live on TV in our hotel room). We drove up I-59 through Mississippi and we had driven along the coast on the way to Houston, and we couldn’t believe the devastation. Yet, we heard nary a peep from that state (which was/is led by a REPUBLICAN governor); they simply rebuilt.
Spin, what a freaking joke. Nothing new, move along.
Gag us. We don’t care anymore. The socialists are dying. We are in the process of killing these people off. We’re awake, and the libs need to be afraid. You commies need to pull back. We will beat you. You’re done, toast. Liberty will win. Uncommon folks don’t want you. Go away!
