Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

Oops - just saw this question. We constantly use water so pump containers pretty often; the s.s. drinking one much less often.
That I don't know, where would it go? I read about using the evaporation method years ago and wherever it was from, it said to leave the lid off, but I liked a clean thin towel to keep stuff out.
Sounds like a long overdue idea! Actually, with all of the rain in the last 2 weeks, we have had more washout of stones in our drive way than we have had in 14 years of living here. Shoot. After we clear the trees that come down, we may have a hard time just going down the drive.
Most our forest of Tulip Poplars is about 50 years old I think. Very tall and probably brittle. I am on the top of a hill so hopefully most of the saturation has gone down the hill.

Just did a local update, and the rain is now into Virginia. About 100 miles south of me.
Tomorrow’s gonna be a long night, I’m going to catch a nap and will catch y’all in a few.
Mostly for NYC residents but for any who live in cities where those wooden water tanks grace the skyline: They can be destroyed in storms. I’m sure there will be some other way to get water, but it can’t hurt to stock up on the bottled kind. People are buying it by the case here.

People don’t realize the hidden freedoms in low-carbing. Spoon out enough flour and bread crumbs to make 15-30 carbs, depending on what level you’re at, then fry up a pound of shrimp, chicken, or chicken fried steak, clams, what have you. Still 15 carbs or whatever you used.

For coffee drinkers--hopefully you have a nice thermos. Make coffee just as the weather starts to deteriorate. A good thermos carafe will keep coffee hot for many hours. A lot of misery can be lessened with a nice hot cup of coffee.

We’re 1/3 the way down on a rolling hillside that used to be pasture about a mile from the Octorora. The road is up near the top. There are some old oaks across the street and I hope they hold through the storm. I’ve got norway spruce wind breaks on the north, east and partially on the west - they have worked well in the past. I’m praying that the power doesn’t go out but I know that would be a minor miracle.
Yep. We'll split up the cars. Perhaps we'll leave one in the nearby church parking lot where it will be away from trees and within walking distance of home. When Bertha dropped a tree over one end of our driveway, we were unable to get a car out. Now we know to separate them during heavy storms.
