Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

You want to get things right, so do I.
She slowed down for some reason. Therefore weakening. The local times changed so many times it was to hit AT 3AM TOMORROW NIGHT.Now 8 am.Not to say Norf/Va bch and top states are are in the clear. Irene is huge and dangerous and thank God she weakened but they think our ocean temps will kick her to a 3.
I’m wondering if we are coming up on a Connie-Diane type situation. That was August 1955.
The magnetism of the lows eastward may have slowed it down enough to dry out the eye.
Seriously? Huge storm which is a potential killler soon to greatly affect many people and u r nitpicking cause nn posted from snopes? People are on this thread for info to help them prepare and keep abreast of what is happening with the hurricane. Some people are in the path and u want to clog up the thread with this?
My state did, Florida. It was our thank you for steering it away from us. :)
I can’t stand that woman she won’t be gov the same time Obama is voted out.
"Sports have also been cancelled, the Mets who are apparently a baseball team, have cancelled their game."
I’ve gone through all those as well but not 20 hours sustained 30-50 mph winds. Lots of old buildings.lots of old trees and a really old sewer system. Storm surge can literally cover the Rockaways and lower Manhattan train stations at the very least will be flooded.
One other thing. All those big buildings will take a wide band of wind and channel it.Its one reason these are a few spots that are seemingly always windy like lower Broadway.
Thanks for the props. A few sour apples have been whipping their tiny little brains into a froth today trying to make current events about themselves. LOL!
Ouch!
I have an Eton (grundig) E100 shortwave receiver.
Should that 14.325 MHz USB frequency translate to 14325 KHz on my receiver's dial ?
Or is sideband a completely different animal ?
Have done a bit of digging on wiki w/o clarification.
I've tuned and set 14325 KHz into memory, but so far only static, tho according to the HWN link you posted, it won't be active til tomorrow (Sat) at 0630.
thanks
I don’t want to be unkind, but does Bev Perdue have some kind of condition or did she have some bad work done on her face?
I don’t know..I think this is the first time I’ve seen her speaking in several years...maybe she just saw her latest poll numbers
Whoa, child. I didn’t take anything off-topic. And I’m two blocks from a river that will be in flood according to the most recent models.
Perhaps need a little receiver like the Degen 1103 with SSB. You might hear garbled voice tomorrow without sideband.

My sister mentioned to me that they think the bay and the ocean are going to meet somewhere in the middle of Ocean City NJ.
Irene’s abating...God is being merciful because today Pataki announced that he was NOT going to run for president...
Yes. That was sent from my cell outside of Atlanta. I’m now sitting in Chik-Fil-A in Augusta, GA on my way to Fayetteville, NC. The rain just now started. It hasn’t been too windy. Yet.
I think the thing is gonna fizzle out and then all the dem politicos and media whores hoping that this will help Obama in some way are going to be very disappointed. The storm surge is the only thing likely to be dangerous, but NC will bear the brunt of that tonight.
Katrina was a Cat 5 storm out in the gulf and the water had already been whipped up for days and had nowhere to go but into the gulf.
At least I hope that is the way this thing will play out for the people on the eastern seaboard tonight. Thankfully the thing does seem to be weakening by the hour by some dry air flowing into it.
