They didn’t mention the rampant, aggressive consumerism? (what they used to call looting?) :)

If you have a car, go fill it up with gas and buy some five-gallon cans and fill them up, too.

Add to all of the above, high tide in the northeast is Sunday early evening, and the new moon (the highest tides) are on Sunday night, Monday

I saw this scenario on The Weather Channel’s show “It Could Happen Tomorrow,” a month or so ago.
A direct hit on NYC would be an unmitigated disaster. It’s impossible for me to imagine how the city, and the national economy, would survive it.
If you think about how long it has taken to start rebuilding Ground Zero, just imagine how impossible it will be to rebuild New York’s infrastructure.
I am scared to death about this storm, and pray for the safety of NYC (and the rest of the east coast).
I can’t believe that my fellow Freepers are making flippant remarks about what will truly be a devastating national tragedy if it comes to pass.

“Economic paralysis”
Not really. This is the disaster Krugman has been waiting for. Stimulus money, new jobs, right?

Breaks my heart. I remember the complete uninterest in the sufferings of Nashville, of those flyover states along the Mississippi and Missouri...
I'm just spiteful enough to wish another raw sewage wave to wash over all of Martha's Vineyard.

In research at Texas A&M it was learned that a very major damage producer is wind blown roofing gravel. Made of slag and light it just blows away and when hurled by 100 +mph winds is a killer of a nearby all glass curtain wall.
New York has acres and acres of gravel roofs and even more acres of curtain walls.
( Should I? Well yes..... Texas A&M was where Gov Perry went to school)

New York City would be up the creek without a paddle if a mandatory evacution was called, imo. There are only limited escape routes and it would be worse than the following Houston Texas attempt back on Sept. 21, 2005. It took upwards of 20+ hours to get a couple hundred miles north to the Dallas/Ft Worth region.
