In this clip from the 1980 Free To Choose, socialist Frances Fox Piven tangles with Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell. We thought this would be interesting in light of the recent dustup between The New York Times and Fox News (Glenn Beck) on the subject of Piven.

Housing market dead after massive socialist push for home ownership. Obama/Bernanke try to push Cloward Piven further.
Seriously, big gov’t is a disaster!

I’ll have to look at it later, but I have to say I would NOT want to be an economist arguing against Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell simultaneously.
Was she EVER attractive? Apparently not.

Great post!
Poor Piven got stomped but good, truly a pleasure to watch.
Looks like there are some other good videos on that channel too, thanks for posting this!

“...I would NOT want to be an economist arguing against Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell simultaneously.”
She’s not an economist,just a
sociologist/political “scientist”. And, the octogenarian has made a very good living at tearing down the American Idea, especially for a Marxist who never had a really original thought, other than one dreamed up in the sixties with her sociologist husband on how to use the Great Society programs to bring down our economy.
For later. Looks interesting. Thanks!
I wonder if she knew someone glued a muskrat to her head?

There is a great Friedman comment around the 4:45 mark. To paraphrase: There is a world of difference between a system where 90% of the people tax themselves to help 10% in distress, and a system where 80% in the middle tax the 10% at the top to help the 10% at the bottom.
“Ill have to look at it later, but I have to say I would NOT want to be an economist arguing against Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell simultaneously.”
They did it the only way they could, they tried to fillibuster Drs. Friedman and Sowell, unsuccessfully, of course.

He must have missed out on Stalin, Mao, Castro, and the rest of the mass-murdering commie dictators. On what promises did he think they rose to power?
