Felons: The Cool New Protected Class

This ban the box movement is the hot new thing with the left and cropping up all over the country in places they run, like Durham.

The idea is that you can’t ask ex-cons if they have a criminal record when they apply for a job, or can only ask if they have certain convictions. Durham’s is a slightly watered-down version of this where they don’t look at criminal convictions until the end of the hiring process. (What Durham is clearly doing is getting a foot in the door for a full-out ban the box ordinance.)

This is a disaster waiting to happen on several levels. Do you want your teenage daughter unknowingly working behind the counter at your local ice cream shop after dark with a man who has a history of beating women within an inch of their lives if that history extends back longer than three years ago, past the point where you are allowed to check in many locales that have passed this?

The insanity will stop only after every liberal has been driven out of power.

Hire an ex-con who then commits a crime and you're liable though.

Punish the innocent. Protect the guilty. It's the Democrat way.

Who really thinks it is a good idea to prevent a business that deals with cash from knowing if the person they hire has a record of theft? Or if the person applying to be a day care provider is a convicted child abuser?

The insanity will stop only after every liberal has been driven out of power.

All of a sudden, the ‘RATS have proclaimed convicted felons “America’s Best of the Best”. It’s a sick, sick world Charlie Brown.

When I send a plumber to a multi million dollar house where the customer has put a key under the mat and left a note next to snacks and coffee telling him all the various things that need doing throughout the house, and the baths and bedrooms with all the Rolexes and jewelry laying around will be his environment for the day, I’m supposed to know something about him?

ansel12: “I’m supposed to know something about him?”

Obviously not. Speaking for our dear leaders, the only thing permissible to know is whether he can do the plumbing, and we’re debating whether will permit you to ask that, too.

That, by the way, was sarcasm.

I think the bigger question is, have they really paid their debt to society?

I always thought you could ask them if they were a convicted felon.

Of course, when they put on the application I was on the farm for the last 15 years; you know pretty much where they were.

bear in mind that just about everything now is a felony. For example if I change the stock on my SKS rifle for a pistol gripped one that’s more comfortable, that’s a felony. Unless I also change out 6 other components for US made parts. the list of trivial gun related felonies is endless.
