More votes for Perry than Palin in Iowa Straw Poll

Posted on 08/13/2011 5:35:56 PM PDT by Minus_The_Bear

Rick Perry who just announced his candidacy received more votes than Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

How much longer can Palin just drive around the country not doing much of anything and still expect to run for POTUS?

A potential candidate without the organization to even manage 100 write in votes looks really really bad.

It’s a standard thing. If Palin would have won, there would have been an avalanche of “great victory” posts. No votes, “no big deal.” Same ol’

Remember, Palin’s organizers for the Undefeated thought buying tickets and getting an audience for that would help her. Why wouldn’t buy tickets and voting for her in the straw poll do the same thing?

Maybe because “The Undefeated” tanked so badly that they thought buying tickets and voting would make them look weak again?

As far as the discussions being a bit calmer. I know people are very passionate at this point out of frustration with how things have been handled by this administration. How the media has covered for them. How they relentlessly bash and make false accusations against opponents of Obama.
I think that the level of anxiety over all of this makes people very irritable and defensive.

I have just let much slide - tried to see others points of view or just remain silent. I could get worked up pretty easy myself, but it won’t solve anything, change anyones mind or make people run in ‘12 or make others drop out.
So I just read, try to not get too upset myself and certainly not add to the pressure cooker of discourse.
It is not helping when ultimately we must turn the tide and all get together to make that happen.
We just have to work together rather than against each other. There are more than enough people working against us already. Taking part of the infighting is just counter productive in every way. Especially when it turns into juvenile name calling which so often happens. It just makes for bad blood all the way around.

I am looking forward to having one candidate that we can all get behind and start working together again, instead of splintering off and having arguments.

When you say that “People have to hear the truth and usually recognize it when they do.” I only wish that were true. Maybe it is deep in their hearts and they will vote with that in mind when in the voting booth. But I honestly don;t know. I hear so many people talk about things that are so off base. They defend them like mad no matter what evidence you give them and refuse to budge. I am not sure if it is just being stubborn, a subtle form of brainwashing over the years from repeated rhetoric, a refusal to admit core beliefs are actually wrong or they are just keeping a good front up.

But I hope that they do recognize the truth of the situation as you say and will do the right things and act appropriately when no one is looking .. like in the voting booth. But I am not hanging my hat on it.

Imagine someone like Chris Matthews .. he hung his career on the likes of Obama. For him to say anything negative now is painful for him, no matter how insignificant it is to us.
He must realize at this point that he has been backing the wrong guy, that the ideals won’t work, that the hope and change was all BS and has landed us in bad shape.

But do you really envision him going into a voting booth and voting for anyone except Obama? An obvious extreme of cases I know, but I thought it best to pose that extreme to make my point.

Thanks for the dialog Norm. It is nice to have a rational discussion again. It is really much appreciated.

And where was McCain in the 2007 Ames poll, something like 11th?

Perry’s people organized a write-in campaign, Palin’s didn’t.

There is no one I would more enthusiastically support, but I think she has been too brutalized by the effete elite to make a successful run this time.

More excuse making, doesn’t matter, there is no demand for Palin to run for president. It’s over. I probably could have gotten 36 friends (and relatives) to write in my name. Organize for Palin has been working Iowa for MONTHS. If there is a demand for Palin she should have had lots more votes than this.

A lot of people have very limited financial resources to devote to defeating Obama. With so many candidates asking for money people are spending what they have in hand now.

All the more reason to wait. Any money you send in now won't go towards defeating Obama, it will go towards defeating other Republicans. It will be another 5 months from now before the first real vote is cast. My suggestion is to keep your powder dry, and hold off. Another month won't matter one way or another.

You’re entitled to whatever animus you have toward Palin, but her volunteers made zero effort to get a single soul to write in her name.

As to there not being any demand for her to run, she has been consistently polling within the top three prospective candidates for months, and she does have the highest positive rating of any Republican among GOP and GOP-leaning voters.

With rainbows and unicorn farts like Obama? Because that's all I ever hear from Palinbots.

Just repeated that so it's clear what defines you.

She has no base or way of organizing.

Oh my yes she does. You are so far out of the loop you need oxygen.

She couldn't even manage 100 right in votes to register %1 in this straw poll.

She wasn't interested in helping the GOP raise money.

It was a briliant move to stay of a poll that she had no reason to take part in.

One of her GIANT support teams made it clear that they would not encourage people to write her in.

None the less, she got some votes.

I don't think any 1st place winner of this straw poll has ever been elected president.

Her "giant support team" consists of about 50 people on twitter.

They got so few votes that it didn't even register as %1.

"It's a secret" is the same strategy Obama is trying with his budget. It means we don't have one in the real world... Or "the dog ate it."

If you think that zero hard work and repeating the mistakes of 2008 are going to win in 2012 go ahead.

You actually have to campaign to become President.

That's not an attack... that should be common sense to every 4th grade history student.

Like I said, you are far far out of the loop.

I wasn't talking about twitter, twit.

Oh and btw, her support team at twitter is over 632,000.

Been a while since you checked huh?

There are support teams in almost every state, organizing and waiting for her to declare her nomination for POTUS.

I think I told you that she and her teams weren't interested in the Ames poll and did not try to get signatures.

Heck, she is not even in the race but she got votes!

She will start campaigning when she gets in the race.

At this time in the cycle when Clinton eventually was elected, he hadn't even gotten into the race yet.

The MSM has got you and alot of actually important political people believing that this is reeeaaaaalll late in the 2012 election cycle when in reality it is quite early.

This isn't an attack, but wait until you graduate from 3rd grade before posting to me again, Minus_The_Brain (be sure to take a history class!)

The truth is that the rabid, usually derangenged anti-Palin bots keep making things up to accuse her or her supporters of. Nothing could be further from the truth than what you accuse Palin supporters of. Don,t accuse others of what you are guilty of yourself, and don’t project your own insecurities onto others.
A unrepresentative, very tiny group of university students said “no” to a Palin run for president? That is relevant how?

How many votes did those 632,000 twitter followers get her? Durrr...

Please come back when you understand basic math.

Romney is raising millions.

Palin does not have one red cent.

Maybe that is a difficult concept for you to grasp.

You can not pay for a Presidential campaign with twitter followers. Romney has millions coming in every week from wealthy CEOs. Now you can just laugh and say "Awesome, I want Romney to win" but some of us want a conservative to win.

That wasn't the point, straw manning me won't work Minus.

Funny you diss social media for a candidate when that is what helped put Obama in office.

Don't worry yourself about Palin's finances son.

I think the 3,223,990 people that like her FaceBook page will cough up a little dough for her.

You would think you can't help pay for a campaign with twitter followers? Stay tuned.

Here, I'll play your silly game.

Quote from Minus_da_Brain: "Awesome, I want Romney to win"

You do? Man, you are on the wrong website, MINUS.

You can't even read.

All you can do is put words in my mouth.

Let me spell this out one more time & maybe you will understand but I doubt it because you seem pretty slow.

Romney is raising millions of dollars every week from CEO's.

Obama did not win because of small donors. That was a media lie. Obama won because of large corporate donations from companies from Goldman Sachs & BP.

OK, you typed the words.

The words came from your fingers.

Happy now?

Oh and Obama won because of voter fraud.
