Democrats Win Two State Senate Seats!

In massive battle of money and organizing, Democrat senators prevail in two important races

Madison, Wisconsin (AP) -- In a stunning setback for the Walker administration, Democrats sailed to victory in two important State Senate seats.

The outcome was a big setback for Republicans, the Tea Party, and Sarah Palin's nascent plans to run for President in 2012. It appears the mood was one of retribution GOP allies of Gov. Scott Walker, who earlier this year enacted a labor law overhaul that ended the right to fair treatment for many public sector workers. Democrats in the state legislature risked everything bravely, and left the state to avoid voting on the measure, while thousands of protesters flooded the state capital to protest Walker's move. After Walker signed the legislation, Democrats began gathering signatures on petitions to recall specific senators who were eligible.

The recall elections attracted millions of dollars of investment from both liberals and conservatives across the nation.

While there's a risk of extrapolating too much from the relatively small number of people who voted in Wisconsin Tuesday, the outcome almost seals the deal for President Obama's reelection in 2012, and is a clear vote of support for all of Obama's policies. Obama won the state in 2008 with 56 percent, but George W. Bush nearly won Wisconsin in 2004, falling short by only 11,000 votes out of nearly three million votes cast.

"The fact of the matter remains that, fighting on Republican turf, we have begun the work of stopping the Scott Walker agenda," said Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate.

Phil Neuenfeldt, president of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO, said voters sent a message that there is a growing movement to reclaim the middle class.

"Let's be clear, anyway you slice it, this is an unprecedented victory," he said.

Republicans struck a glum tone, when speaking about these two critical races. "Wow, we lost," said one unidentified Kapanke supporter, "It's obvious that the only one with ideas for Wisconsin are Democrats. I might have to switch parties."

"We spent so much time and money," said the Hopper campaign manager, "We spent so much and yet we lost. It's obvious that the only one with ideas for Wisconsin are Democrats. I might have to switch parties."

The State Republican Chairman was overheard by an anonymous source staying "It's obvious that the only one with ideas for Wisconsin are Democrats. I might have to switch parties."

LOL! No, but I did just buy the cool knife/saw, tomahawk/hatchet, and entrenching tool combo from woot earlier in the week. I just got the “it just shipped” email minutes ago. Close enough?

According to the NY Times, the Dems spent around $32M in all the recall races, and only got two seats to show for it, and it doesn’t give them control of the state senate. Epic Fail.

Plus there are two DemocRATS up for recall elections next week. If Republicans pick up one, the DemocRATS will have spent $32+ million to gain just one net seat.

Are you delusional? One seat in a heavy Dem district that was a surprise they even went Republican in the first place and the other seat where the incumbent had an affair with staff and left his family. The rest all stayed with the Republican incumbent. Next week there is a chance that a Dem is ousted and you claim it’s a “big setback for Republicans”?
