I am writing this in the form of an open letter to all my compatriots in the conservative movement: In the tea parties, in AnyStreet, in national and local groups alike . . . but most especially in the tea parties. This may be the longest single article I have ever written, but it is essential that we have this dialog. I believe this information to be vital to the success of the movement.

I appreciate your post and the good sense approach you outlined.
We must work together on the big issue: taking this country back.
We will always scrimmage over individual issues. That’s healthy. But we must shed old grievances and unite to oust the socialists next year.
Sure many here on FR know when I refer to the “Socialists” I mean the “Progressive/Socialist/Communist/Marxist/Dems”.
I also hope that all the Conservatives who stayed home in 2008 because they couldn't vote for McCain/Palin will consider voting in 2012 to defeat Obama.
California Freeper ping here and I hope folks will read the entire article by Christopher Cook and then comment. As always, if anyone wants off my ping list please let me know through FreepMail. Thanks!
Just noticed your tag line and love it! My hubby and I also love earthworms over lots of things. They do wonders in our garden! That is, when we have time to have a garden. Will after November 2012.
I look forward to Governor Perry entering the race. :)
A very good article. I’m still very bitter about all the conservatives who wouldn’t hold their noses and vote for McCain and I blame them for where America is today. They gave Obama his power to destroy.
We’d better start fighting the common enemy with every little punch we can and stop waiting around to deliver the big blow.
AMEN
Amen..Thanks for the ping
In 2008 I couldn't quite stomach the idea of voting for McCain/Palin.
So I went out and voted for just Palin instead.
It's a free country. If the Republicans want to be certain of getting a sufficient number of votes then they need to put out a better product.
I voted for Palin so you don't have to focus any bitterness at me, but I am also very proud to proclaim that I never cast a vote for that pseudo-conservative George W. Bush.
If every conservative in California had ignored the hype that Bush had a chance to win even California, and instead voted for Ralph Nader then the Green Party may have gotten the 5% of the popular vote they needed to become an officially recognized party and a thorn in the side of Democrats for years to come.
But instead the "hold your nose" Republicans believed the hype, took the blue pill, went back to sleep, and ended up with a Democrat in Republican clothing with no downside to the Democrats.
McCain is still out spreading his slander against conservatives.
I agree and we do tend to eat our own, so it’s time to ease up on that a bit.
We did it because we are old enough and have lived long enough to notice in a heartbeat the sound of Marxism that came out of Obama’s mouth as soon as we heard him speak at the DEM convention back when. He was Senator from ILL then.
We could never have voted for Obama and we would never stay home and give the worst the best chance to win.
The enemy to America is Socialism in any form. We must rid our country of every DEM that has been captured by Socialism.
We must remember that there was a great deal of voter fraud that also aided Obama’s election. Yes, many conservatives did stay home but I do understand how upset they were that the media picked the Republican candidate who is really a RINO.
I will always have some respect for McCain for his service to our country and that can not be denied. However he has always been a very moderate conservative, and that is not what our country needs.
I believe we are in the position to win big in 2012, but we can not have “sitters on the couch” and FaceBook and Twitter folks not getting their boots on the ground.
The candidates we choose in the Primary elections is VERY important. We must make good selections and then give every minute we can to those candidates. Working folks can not give as much time, but they can still do a lot from home. Retired folks like me and my hubby need to be out there as much as we can with our boots on the ground action.
Hubby and I are continuing to work here in Florida and when November 2012 results start coming in, we will be able to say we did EVERYTHING we could to help elect good conservatives in order to save America from Socialism.
Eat? Nah, we don’t EAT our wounded, we shoot ‘em again! And maybe twice more for good measure! By the time we’re done, there’s too much lead in ‘em for eatin’.
Now, over on the Dem side folks have got a MUCH easier ride; if ya screw up over there you get promoted, and their spin machine goes to work building you into an icon. How else do you think Kennedy got so big and lasted so long? That Dem party rescued his would-be jail-bound ass, and made him into a frackin’ national monument!
If the RINO-infested GOP ever got two brain cells to rub together, they’d figure out how to immortalize Conservative legislators who exhibit character and principle. They haven’t done that since Reagan, and even he had to get in with the RINOs to get the traction to make it. Before Reagan? I don’t think the GOP has ever properly lionized, elevated, and solidly supported a single truly worthy soul like the Democrats do for the ones they push to the fore.
Doubt me? Name ONE non-RINO Republican who’s had the ongoing GOP support necessary to build a legislative career of the magnitude of Ted Kennedy.
I’m drawin’ a blank. How ‘bout you?
The Republican vote, just like TARP in 2008, was based on fear over principle. I’m tired of Republicans being afraid of their own shadow. This is not 1995, and Obama is no Clinton.
1. There is an established alternative media. The liberal press no longer controls the narrative.
2. Obama is not nearly as pragmatic as Clinton. Clinton didn’t get re-elected because of the government shutdown. AFTER the shutdown, Clinton came to the center right on many issues, including “The end of Welfare as we know it”, “The era of big government is over”, etc. Clinton worked with the Republican majority to bring the budget towards balance. Obama is not ideologically capable of doing ANYTHING close to what Clinton did to get re-elected.
3. The Democrats, even with a massive blame game, could not take back the House in 2012. Add to that redistricting will will likely yield at least a dozen MORE Republican seats in 2012.
4. There are twice as many Democrats up for election in the Senate than GOP. It’s the Senate that had everything to fear in the outcome of this vote. The House could have pressed that advantage, but did not. Reid would have not been able to hold the line past Aug 3rd - fortunately for him, he didn’t have to face that revolt from his own members up for re-election.
5. Obama owns this economy. He was paralyzed during this debate, and we gave him an out. Now, Obama is free to let the Bush Tax Cuts end next year, and turn over the White House with massive increases in baseline budget spending -— AND A LOOMING DEBT LIMIT debate in the first two months of the new President’s term. Thanks GOP, for dumping this on the new GOP President just out of the starting gate.
6. The GOP may only control one branch of government, but when it comes to spending, it is the branch that COUNTS. The HOUSE controls spending. The GOP House just voted for the largest debt increase in American History. No Stop. Say that to yourself again: The GOP Controlled House just voted for the largest debt increase in American History. The only way you can count that as a win is if you are wildly spinning. ‘We only control so much’ is at best a rationalization of a fear-based vote. The House could have dominated this debate precisely because the issue at hand is, by CONSTITUTIONAL DESIGN, CONTROLLED BY THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!! We voted in 2010 for a hardline stand, not a weak-kneed capitulation.
7. It’s not that we are setting Rep West and the Freshmen GOP to impossible standards. We are asking them to stand up for our PRINCIPLES. These principles are what they espoused to get elected. Not a single GOP House member - not one of them - ran on increasing the debt limit by TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Not one. “If elected, I will work hard to pass the largest debt increase in American History.” IN FACT, they ran against doing any such thing.
8. The end result of this deal is a tax increase in Dec. Faced with gutting defense and medicare, these same House members will come back to us and say that a tax increase isn’t what they want, but their hands are tied. Of course, they won’t mention that they tied their own hands in August. Don’t believe this? The Speaker was already prepared to hand over $800 Billion. That at least is already baked in. The whole structure is designed to raise taxes or gut military spending. Either way, that is a huge failure. This doesn’t even debate the Constitutionality of a ‘Super Congress’.
9. Every GOP member that knows they face a contested primary next year, from almost every Presidential Candidate, right down to Hatch and Graham in the Senate, voted, “NO”. That should tell you everything you need to know about this deal. The only way to prevent another sell out with the Super Congress vote in Dec is to ensure that many many MORE GOP members that voted “Yes” face contested primaries between now and then. It’s obvious that the primary motivation of most of our GOP House Members is FEAR. It’s a good thing then, if they fear their viability after December’s vote on the SuperCongress’ product. That means being Primaried.
Crap Cap and Balance was the compromise. The cuts were still crap, but the cap and balance would have made that a deal worth taking. That should have been the line in the sand.
This deal was a cave. It violated the campaign rhetoric of almost every freshman that voted in favor of it.
2.4 Trillion in new debt is a victory for Conservatives? Really?! That’s sounds silly ANY WAY YOU SAY IT.
It’s a victory for big government.
Major focus should be on ousting the Dems (target number ONE - Obama), absolutely agreed! I’m sharing this article. :)
Well said, Eric! Thank you.
That's it in a nut shell. Exactly right!
That's it in a nut shell. Exactly right!
Conservatives were and are on the march and from many accounts in fact had by then gained much/most of the Independent support in the debt limit dust up. It's a shame we will never know with any certainty what could have been if our Pubbies in the House had just sat on their hands, thereby forcing Jug Ears and his politburo to begin some serious cutting. SS and Medicare are essentially "trust" funds. Could Jug Ears have gotten away with pitching a hissy and NOT covering seniors? Not if Pubbies would gotten on message. The point is, conservatives had a rare opportunity to create some serious squirming around D.C. The fact they didn't even try indicates to me a ceding of territory to the enemy when we held the high ground.
Principals are relative
Compromise of principals are acceptable
It's about winning and the acceptable (winnable) candidate and position on issues is what matters.
We're winning or gaining ground, pat on the back to make all feel good.
Follow his recipe and you end up with Compassionate Conservatism, Romney Care or another Spermanator as in California, more of the same... No, the Tea Party is exactly that instrument that “forces” the demagogue in DC to think before he votes and stay on course. It purges the party of those frauds that claim to be Conservative while they vote for more spending and government entitlements, vote for abortion, an open border and granting entitlements to illegals... The Tea Party is doing great, it holds their feet to the fire.
