The deep dark secret underlying the Kamikaze debate over the debt ceiling is that it is as much about race as it is about competing political philosophies. The nation is roughly divided in half; the haves that pay taxes and have nots who do not. Most of the haves are white; most of the have nots are not. When the haves say they are sick of paying for bloated government, they are saying in effect that they are sick of paying for a vast social safety net that disproportionately protects black and brown people. They are not racists, but the shrink government movement championed by the Tea Party has a racial impact.
For example, everybody got hit by the Great Recession; but the impact on black and brown communities is far more severe. Take unemployment benefits. Proportionally, who would be hurt by limiting the current 99 weeks of eligibility? Since only 7.9% of whites are out of work, compared to 16.1% of blacks and 11.3% of Latinos, the answer is self-evident.

tl;dr White people don’t like paying the bills for people who hate them.
The haves pay the taxes and are white.
The have nots pay no taxes and are not white.
Call it whatever you want, Jerry. I really don’t care anymore.
Well, duh! Get the minorities to pay some taxes then. That’s equality for ya’.
From the article:
When the haves say they are sick of paying for bloated government, they are saying in effect that they are sick of paying for a vast social safety net that disproportionately protects black and brown people.
So, Geraldo. What’s the question?
The incorrigible Geraldo weighs in.
To libs, EVERYTHING is about race.
“When the haves say they are sick of paying for bloated government, they are saying in effect that they are sick of paying for a vast social safety net that disproportionately protects black and brown people.”
Not at all. They are sick of paying for the stupid, lazy slackers who can’t be bothered to work. If some groups are disproportionately in that category that’s their problem.
I see. If you’re white, you’re an unfeeling fat cat who’s sick of paying people who don’t deserve it?
OK, I’ll go by that definition. After all, we’re paying all the taxes.
OMG.
Back in the day this would have made for a great Saturday Night Live fake commercial: “Thank a white person.” I could just hear a voiceover while a grim black and white video shows Garrett Morris collecting his unemployment check: “Have you thanked a white person today?”

Sure Jerry, you're a serious journalist.
...but, Geraldo is.
Turn off - won’t read.
Gerry Rivers (Whorealdo’s real name) has one tool in his toolbox: the racecard.
So he hits EVERYTHING with it.
Oh, puhleeeze!
It’s been nearly FIFTY YEARS since the Civil Rights era!
The races have been melded and those who still complain and sit on their butts waiting for their Messiah to make them rich at somebody else’s expense are just flat out lazy bastards! They had an entire generation to take advantage of every educational program under the sun, but didn’t.
They make excuses for their plight but nobody buys that meme any more. They have no one else to blame but themselves!
The liberals have thrown trillions of hard working taxpayers dollars at the feet of these people and still they sit in poverty and squalor wishing for rescue.
I have absolutely NO compassion for lazy thugs who want to sit around smoking crack and making babies that they know they can’t afford if they had to foot the bills..............
“To libs, EVERYTHING is about race.”
It’s their most useful tool.
It’s not about race until the system says “If you are white you are eligible for welfare and unemployment, if you are black you are not”.
I really wish Fox would have TurdWallow Reviera cover some really dangerous situation (like a massive hurricane making landfall) and have him, live on camera get sucked into the ocean, never to be HEARD from again....
Why, oh why, is EVERYTHING about race?
We can parade around all the statistics in the world - but without the FACTS behind those stats, they are just numbers to be interpreted any way one so chooses.
Are their other reasons why the “black” and “brown” communities (I cannot believe he used that terminology... ok, maybe I can...) have higher unemployment? I believe there are. Let me list a few that I am aware of from right here in “my neighborhood”:
Much of the “black” community doesn’t value education. The black students here in the local school district are several times more likely NOT to graduate from high school. Even those who do make it 4 years, they are content walking across the stage to get a blank piece of paper (they allow students who have attended 4 years to participate in graduation, even though they haven’t completed the requirements to graduate). And the families are fine with that too.
What types of jobs are high-school dropouts likely to be able to find? Further, many of those jobs are not the most “pleasant” - and thus the attitude that prevented them from completing their schooling carries over into the workplace. They don’t care.
Another observation- personal behavior/dress/activities of many in the “black and brown communities” are often counter to “civilized society”. Most employers won’t put up with “pants on the ground”, hat turned sideways, and thug language and behavior. Are all in the “black and brown communities” like this - of course not. But a larger portion are than in white and asian communities. (maybe, under Rivera’s system, I should call it the “White and Yellow Communities).
Further - many in thee “communities”, because of the type of work they CAN get, often don’t stay long at one job - they don’t build any “seniority” - thus when a company cuts back - guess who is first to go. Again - nothing about that is race-based.
