Speaking to a packed house at the Western Conservative Summit, Mr. Perry continued to leave his supporters guessing as to his political future, although he did refer repeatedly to the importance of the 2012 election. At one point, he suggested that President Obama should be defeated so that he could take up a career on the Sunday morning talk shows.
"The mixture of arrogance and audacity that guides the Obama administration is an affront to every freedom-loving American and a threat to every job in the private sector," said Mr. Perry.
While his plans for 2012 remain a mystery, Mr. Perry left little doubt as to where he stands on the debt-ceiling debate.
"They spend their time arguing about the debt ceiling instead of making cuts," said Mr. Perry. "I for one think it should be called the 'escalator ceiling' because it keeps going up."

Rick Perry: George Bush redux, only a whole let less likeable.
The nature of the primary is that the winner takes the lion’s share of the delegates and gains a big head of steam for the next election.
Some conservatives have to get out and others have to stay out. Otherwise, we are looking at a Romney nomination.
Perhaps it’s best if Bachman, Perry, Palin, Cain, Pawlenty, Santorum, and Gingrich(?) all get together in a conference call and decide among themselves who the 2 viable conservative candidates really are.
I’m guessing that all of the Huntsman and Giuliani support will go to Romney, so we need to be down to just ONE conservative candidate in very short order.
Personally, I think (and I may be wrong) this will come down to a race between Romney and Perry.
Polls bear this out, of course things can change but who knows.
I think Pawelenty, Santorum, Gingrich, and Cain should already be bowing out if they truly desire a conservative victory.
Those who remain in the race should be honest about any skeletons in the closet. If anything real comes out on Bachman or Perry, I’m gonna just shut them off. Palin is the most scrutinized woman on the planet and has been for nearly 4 years. If there were dirt on her, we’d already know about it.
And conservatives need to stop mindlessly bashing their potential nominees over deviations they’ve made from pure conservatism in which they’ve demonstrably changed their mind or the deviation was in a 2nd or 3rd tier concern.
He's been very clear as to these positions. Regarding the marriage issue that people have pulled out of thin air recently, it was quite clear that he was talking about a state's right to set laws that aren't laid out by the US Constitution. The US Constitution does not define marriage, therefore it is up the state to decide who can enter into these contracts. He was not taking a position on the issue of marriage, although he is very much for marriage being between a man and a woman. But, if one is against his answer, then they somehow feel that the US Constitution defines marriage. You're either for the 10th Amendment, or you're not.
In other words, he took a very principled position.
It has to happen.
#3 People are sick of seeing Bammy Boys on TV
Even if things were going good in this country, I think the American people are fatigued with the man for over-exposure on TV at every little thing that has happened the last 3 years.
Obama’s been on TV so much with news conferences that it actually seems like this is near the end of his 2nd term.
He’s like a guest that overstayed his visit (in good times or bad)
“Romney 17
Perry 15
Palin 12
Giuliani 11
Paul 8
Cain 3
Gingrich 3
Pawlenty 2
Huntsman 2
Santorum 2
Other 1
No preference 14”
Rather short shrift to Bachman, isn’t this? Did she drop out?
Some kind of eye ellipsis, no doubt, but probably would have violated copywrite by img srcing it, so I went back and forth from page to page and my eye slipped.
What it proves is that I don’t have a photgraphic memory. Just checked...Bachman was at 11%. Sorry for the error.
That's what I'm thinking. Whenever we start to ge a candidate who might win I start seeing all this negative stuff on FR. Didn't used to be that way and I'm wondering why it is now.
Fact is, we need to band together to save this country. Whoever gets the nomination, I'll support them 100% and if I have a complaint, I'll wait until they're sworn in.
But, to be sure we get to pick our own candidate, we need to look at our primary rules. Dems should not be allowed to vote in Rep primaries, end of story.
Poll after poll shows that people are most concerned about jobs — this is where Perry's record can be contrasted well against Obama’s record.
Poll: After debt debate, Obama must turn to jobs
http://articles.latimes.com/2011/jul/29/news/la-pn-report-white-house-jobs-20110729
“When asked if the White House and Congress should focus more on jobs or deficit reduction, by a 2-1 margin people chose jobs.
Even the most conservative wing of the Republican Party â the “tea party” supporters — ranked jobs over the deficit by four points, according to the survey.”
“But, to be sure we get to pick our own candidate, we need to look at our primary rules. Dems should not be allowed to vote in Rep primaries, end of story.”
And neither should independents — people who want to vote in a primary, should register with a party and vote in that party’s primary.
I understand that CA recently adopted an even worse primary voting — all candidates, R-s, D-s are on the same ballot in the primary, everyone can vote for anyone, regardless of party affiliation and the top two vote getters go to the general election, even if they are two Dems, which is most likely, since CA is dominated by Democrats — with these rules it will be a miracle if a Republican will ever get elected again.
Nailed it!!
Rick Perry worked in Al Gore’s 88 campaign.
Maybe he can tell us if Al really did invent the internet.
The job situation also contrasts him with Romney as well. Texas has
had a much better record in that area than Mass. had when Romney was
governor...unless I’m completely off-base....
Hit songs can be over-exposed. Bammy had his big hits in 2009-2010. Today he’s gotten to familiar to Americans...they want a new fresh face same as Bammy was a fresh face in 2008
Perry does a good job of keeping illegals employed. his financing depends on it.
Romney is over 95%. Once Perry declares and the MSM gets him up in lights, the funding will surge and he will be in the debates in August.
Perry will easily beat Romney after he becomes as well known. He plays well with average apolitical Americans and his smooth common sense style will mop the floor with two-tone Romney.
Hopefully, he will do the wise thing and not get in.
I'll second that. We either hang together or we hang seperately.
