Our Admiral Ackbar Moment — It Is A Trap (Even Rush Limbaugh saying it right now)

As you wake up, here is what you need to know.

John Boehner thinks he has the votes to pass his third plan out of the House. Work to make sure he does not by going to http://www.redstate.com/action and calling your member of Congress. Tell them to oppose Boehner’s plan.

Even if you are sympathetic to Boehner’s plan, here is why it must be killed — it is a trap.

Pay attention please.

Harry Reid and all the Senate Democrats have sent John Boehner a letter saying they will oppose his plan in the Senate. In other words, Boehner’s plan, given the GOP votes in the Senate pledged to vote against it, will get less votes in both the House and in the Senate than Cut, Cap, and Balance.

Here, though, is why it is important to kill John Boehner’s plan this very morning before today’s vote.

John Boehner’s plan will get to the Senate. Harry Reid’s plan isn’t even in final form and has not even started making its way through the Senate’s arcane processes. It is a trap.

Harry Reid will amend John Boehner’s plan and include parts of Reid’s own plan that make tax increases even more likely than Boehner’s already does.

Senate Democrats last night were beginning to talk about adding the Gang of Six’s very bad plan to it as well — a trigger that would be engaged should the Democrats then refuse to reform entitlements, i.e. a trigger the Democrats will gladly engage because the Gang of Six plan raises taxes, including getting rid of the employer credit for active duty military reservists and raising the capital gains tax from 15% to 28%.

Then the Senate Democrats will send John Boehner back his own plan and dare John Boehner to kill his very own proposal. Should he try, the GOP will look as hardline and unwilling to compromise as John Boehner’s acolytes have been accusing conservatives of being this week.

In other words, John Boehner, once he sends his plan to the Senate, will yet again get played and the GOP will be forced to either accept Harry Reid’s awful changes or be blamed for causing the nation’s default — the very thing the GOP has sought to avoid.

Oh, and should the GOP fold and pass the modified Boehner plan, they’ll still get blamed for us losing our credit rating. Even with Boehner’s revisions, the Congressional Budget Office says the plan doesn’t cut even $1 trillion. It doesn’t meet S&P’s requirements.

Well done, Republicans.

The only thing we can do is call our congressmen and prevent them from voting for this suicide pact. Go here now.

Blah blah blah all around. If it’s a trap it’s one the average person does not care about.

I follow this stuff every day and I’m sick of it. Obviously neither Boehner’s or Reid’s plan will pass. Don’t see how passing B’s plan in the House makes any difference, in terms of a trap.

Only way not to be blamed is to pass something.

This is all posturing till the real thing.

I agree.

The House sent the CCB budget to the Senate what, a month ago ??

Force the Senate to deal in plain sight with what was sent, or take the heat for not doing so.
That 02Aug 'deadline' is a WhiteHut strawman.

Japan seems to be doing pretty well with a AA rating.

NO, as Trump said...Republicans are horrible Negotiators.

They should have given Demint the weekend to get his votes. He was only 4 away from forcing a vote on CCB.

Boehner manufacturered the Asian Market Emergency crisis to cut off Demint.

Sure, let’s deliver Boehner a defeat. That makes sense.

NOT.

Thanks for posting this analysis.

Republican supporters of this cave-in legislation cite one of two reasons for their support (neither of which addresses the so-called "positive attributes" of the bill):

1. We're so weak this is the best we can do even though it falls far short of what we want, blah...blah...blah; or

2. At least it's not Harry Reid's bill.

(Such ringing endorsements portray a sense of defeatism which, I think, will ultimately hurt Republicans in 2012.)

It is a trap! If this bill passes the House, why can’t Boehner put something in this bill that prevents the Senate from tweaking it in any way! Is this even possible?

And so what would you have the House do? Nothing?

Yes, they should do nothing. They already passed CCB, and so Boehner should tell Reid and Obama to take it or leave it, and then adjourn the House for the August recess, leaving them holding the bag.

When it comes back to the house after being altered all it will need to pass is a handfull of Republican rinos + all the democrats.

Once it leaves the house the conservative voting block won’t be able to stop it.

They need to kill it! Don’t let it pass the house!

The political trickery here is that the GOP leaders get the Tea Party votes to pass Boehner’s plan while Dems vote no, then after its modified by Reid, they’ll get to vote against it since House Dems will provide the yes votes for the final version.

Neat political trickery.

Many RINO’s will also get to vote no on final version modified by Reid and look good politically.

Lets all look good supporting the Boehner plan, then get to vote no and look good again.

I’m wishing now that Boehner would have cried because he lost the House Speaker position! We wouldn’t be in this position had he lost...IMHO!

Exactly. As I said above, it's not as if CCB is extreme. It's a reasonable bill. If Harry Reid wants to debate the matter, then he should bring CCB to the floor. After all, it has already been passed. Why should Boehner give Reid most of what he is asking for even BEFORE it is debated in the Senate--under Reid's management?

Every single person..and I mean every one on this site that makes posts like you should be banned from complaining about what is passed....because if Boehner gets this through today what comes backs to the House will be passed.

"And so what would you have the House do? Nothing?"
THEY ALREADY DID SOMETHING, IT IS THE SENATE (DEMOCRATS) THAT ARE DOING NOTHING.."Because ANYTHING they pass is going to get the treatment you outlined."
DEFINITION OF INSANITY, DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER, EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RESULT EVERYTIME..."Somehow, the right just can’t accept that having a majority in ONE house of a bicameral legislature, with no executive power, does not give control — or, in this case, even much influence."
YOU ARE NOT A STUDENT OF THE CONSTITUTION, ARE YOU. ALL SPENDING BILLS ORIGINATE IN THE HOUSE. PERIOD. THEY PASSED A BILL, THEY DID THEIR JOB. TIME TO PUNCH OUT AND GO HOME. LET THE DAMN DEMS, RINOS AND FUBO PUT SOMETHING IN WRITING...I QUESTION YOUR LOYALTY HERE, ARE YOU A PLANT????

You are right, of course and you are also wasting your breath. This place has turned into a haven of the blind and stupid. Full of people who simply cannot get past the “I want it ALL or the nation be damned”.

If Boehner can pass ANYTHING which cuts any spending and limits the debt ceiling increase to LESS then the spending cuts it is a win and a starting place.

Think about the Muni Unions who have gone from paying ZERO toward benefits to now paying something. Small steps yes they are. But it is a beginning and you can BET the next contract will have them paying even more.

It has taken 65 YEARS to get us here and it will not be undone in 1 legislative vote, especially when the opposition controls 2/3 of the process.

Pull you heads out of your asses and stop acting like crybaby liberals.
