RALEIGH By a single vote, the state House on Tuesday overrode the governor's veto of a bill intended to discourage abortions by requiring women to wait 24 hours, receive counseling and be shown an ultrasound before the operation can take place.
Lawmakers on both sides of the issue once again brought impassioned arguments to the floor. But none were as startling as Rep. Ruth Samuelson's debate-ending disclosure that she had once been raped. The Mecklenburg County Republican was responding to some Democrats who argued that the bill would traumatize rape victims and in effect give rapists parental rights.
"Respecting her choice is traumatic and victimizing?" she said. "I'll tell you what's traumatic and victimizing."
Samuelson's remarks came at the conclusion of a lengthy debate, and she immediately moved to vote on the bill. When the override succeeded, pro-life supporters in the gallery broke into applause, and were gaveled to order by Speaker Thom Tillis.
Samuelson couldn't be reached late Tuesday. In May she told the Observer the measure would make sure a rape victim "had the information she needs so she doesn't later feel traumatized because she didn't understand what she was doing."

Taking our country back, bit by bit.
Notice that this bill does not actually restrict abortion, just like the Texas one.
In L.A. a few years back, the parents of a comatose woman who had been repeatedly raped in her hospital bed by a staff member, refused to abort the baby when it was discovered the daughter was pregnant. They demanded the baby be allowed to come to term and raised it as a loving testament to their daughter.
What did she say? There are no quotes in the story other than her retort.
Wow. Just wow.
This is an area in which even most anti-abortion folks tread lightly, especially when the abortion is done prior to a fetal heartbeat appearing. But it’s beautiful when people in such a situation, or their caretakers if they are not competent, let the baby gestate and be born. Rapists are the scummiest of scum, who ought to be shot, but unborn babies are blameless.
God bless those loving family members. They will likely heal far faster than if they had allowed the abortion and will not carry the guilt of denying life to a child.
That's why I don't believe her. She's a feminist democrat - she lies with every breath. And it is inconsequential to her to lie about being raped, even though that violates the dignity and respect of all of the women who actually have been raped. All Rats are shameless. But feminist Rats are depraved.
I think you misread the article. Representative Samuelson is a pro-life Republican who disclosed her experience with rape to end debate on the veto override.

It does restrict it more than what is currently allowed and, most importantly, it gives the real truth to women about what they are deciding to do. In the majority of cases when women see their babies images and hear their hearts beating, they change their minds in favor of life for their babies. Why else do you think the Libs are fighting it so hard?
Abortion may never be made illegal again but we are working towards making it unthinkable. This is, I believe, the best way to stop it. One heart at a time.

I think you can get one pretty cheap over at the Foot-in-Mouth section.
Amen! Any choice FOR life is always the best choice.
She's a conservative Republican.
I agree! What a legacy for their daughter to raise her child in their loving home. The rapist is who deserves punishment, NOT the innocent child.
Shot? WAAAAAY to good for them. Bring back hanging. Short drop style.
