Sales of new homes in the U.S. saw a modest decrease in the month of June, according to figures released Tuesday by the Commerce Department, with the drop in sales coming as a surprise to economists.

New single-family home sales came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 312,000 in June, a 1 percent drop from revised figures that showed the May rate at 315,000.

Most economists had predicted a slight rebound to an annual rate of 321,000 new home sales. Additionally, the May figures were revised downward from initial reports that showed an annual rate of 319,000.

“Unexpected”? All the talk on the news is how the U.S. is about to default on its obligations and the world will turn upside down, and these people are surprised that fewer citizens are willing to bet their financial futures on the outcome of the “inside-the-beltway funny farm”?

I remember that photo. It’s actually from the primary season when Clinton went all redneck and started whooping Zero’s butt across the south and rust belt.

...Which is a reminder that those types of Dems are probably kicking themselves now. Despite the public face they put on.

I wonder how many times “...unexpected...” or its equivalent has been used in the last 30 months....unbelievable, and the “recovery” has been underway more than 2 years, per VP “Bite Me.”

It is still expected that Obama will support tax increases. That's about it.

Well, I listened to the ONE last night and he said it was Bush’s fault.

You know, those Republicans are so evil that even when they are gone for YEARS they can come back and destroy everything! It’s just like the evil Cheney and the Halliburton machine, we are STILL having global warming and it’s ALL the evil Bush’s fault.

Bush hates me!

With so many distress-sale and mortgage-walk-away bargains to be had in used homes, new construction is not selling like it used to... surprise surprise.

"Unexpected.....Of course!

What is certainly not unexpected is the downward revision of the May numbers - if we had a working press they would start to do some figures about how EVERY MONTH initial figures come out to big publicity, only to be quietly revised downward th next month. Same thing happens with jobs ...

Of course, if the DEMS understood a lick about the marketplace they would understand that the UNCERTAINTY causes by the debt ceiling fiasco is at the heart of this - in addition to scaring buyers, who in their right mind is going to write 30 year paper at low rates when it is clear that the DEMS only strategy to deal with the budget is to print more worthless money?
