A south Bossier City homeowners association has sued to force a family to remove a front yard sign supporting their son's military service because it violated subdivision covenants.
The Burrs placed a large multicolored banner with a picture of their 20-year-old son, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Corey Burr, and the phrase "Our son defends our freedom" in January after Corey Burr was deployed to Afghanistan.

People who criticize us condo dwellers need to mind their own damn business. Condo dwelers who complain about the HOA's and the regulations need to move out or shut up....... Funny how such topics always bring out you folks who feel it necessary to criticize us..........we never criticize you.
What a sad joke this statement is? I have known many condo commandos in my day and all think they are better than us and make no bones about it. Your statement in bold does the same.
All of them have your attitude and the better-than-you disposition when discussing how they can get rid of those they don't like. Bunch of Communists and Fascists all!

HOAs are for fascists and those who like to tell others how to live.
Then why are the anti-HOA'ers telling others how to live?
Maybe people move into HOA communities because they want to live a certain way, with others who want to live that way too. Maybe they have the freedom to give up some property rights and join with others who'll do the same in order to accomplish some purpose or other...y'know, like people who leave the rural countryside and move into town.
Not to get too personal, but later I'm gonna take a shower in my backyard. I'll bet that's illegal where all you anti-HOA'ers live, isn't it? How oppressive! Any government entity that bans backyard showers should be shut down! Towns and cities are for fascists and those who like to tell others how to live. /sarc
Dues or taxes. Zoning restrictions and public behavior ordinances, or CC&Rs. What difference does it make? Why do people complain about living in NYC instead of packing up and moving someplace more to their liking? Why do people who moved into an HOA complain about the HOA?
And why do anti-HOA'ers complain about HOAs? Isn't that like a Texan complaining about life in New York City?
What happened to the freedom to live where you choose? Or is that for fascists too?

Oh, good! I must've misunderstood you.
So when several of us agree to be bound by a set of property-use restrictions, and set up an association with a governing board to hold us to those restrictions, you won't object. I'm glad to know you don't have a problem with that.

Not if it means that you can ban or otherwise prevent someone from moving in the same area who will NOT agree to those terms.

So? I work on my vehicles in my garage. That’s what a garage is for. Did you know I also to have sex in there and not just the bedroom? God forbid you go peeking through my windows.

“we have the ability to prevent our complex from turning into a white trash trailer park”
Actually, you don’t. The lawsuits have been flying over these overstated and overreaching HOAs. They commit fraud every time they claim to own the roads or have the ability to control who lives in a property. They can and are sued routinely. You control SOME factors of trailer trash syndrome, but not the ones that matter the most.

Okay, so let's say I want to move into town, but I will NOT agree to stop my backyard showering. No, they won't ban or otherwise prevent me from moving into their town. They'll just toss me in the hoosegow.
Y'see, Packrat, when people decide they want to live together in a community, they make what ya might call a "social compact". Some liberties (e.g. backyard showering) are ceded to the commonwealth, or community, by the consent of the governed. (Notice the similarity between the words "commonwealth", "community", and "communism". I think maybe that's what's throwing you off.)
No, the village isn't gonna come take your kid to raise, so you can drop that straw man fallacy. But they will restrain you from certain behaviors we all agreed are detrimental to the community. The making and enforcing of such restrictions is commonly known as "self-government". It's for this freedom that the colonists came to America, and why they fought a war to preserve it.
Don't try to take it from us.

Unless we both read the covenants and bylaws, we aren’t in a position to discuss whether or not the other signs are permissible.
Of course, based on earlier posts in this thread, there is reason to doubt whether the other signs actually exist.
So get me a copy of the documents and photos of the other signs, and I’ll be happy to let you know what I think.

Hot Tabasco: you are quite offensive with your “white trash” stuff. I thought Conservatives hated that phrase after the awful James Carville used it to describe the victimized and powerless Paula Jones. But, obviously, you tin-pot dictators of the condo and “sub division” scene are busily patrolling the streets of suburbia for any signs of “white trash” springing up.
If you read my posts, you would see that I was once president of my condo. After a year or two I was so sick of telling others what to do that I quit and we eventually sold the apartment to get away from the busybodies who took my place. A good lesson to learn!

Sorry but forcing your will on others for YOUR OWN GOOD is wrong then, now, and forever. Calling it an HOA or Communism really makes no difference.

They also don’t like garbage in garbage cans, mail in mailboxes or newspapers thrown on the lawn by little boys on bicycles.
Wasn’t there an episode of The Twilight Zone like this?

So you don’t like laws, rules, or regulations of any sort. To you, self-government is communism, and community standards are fascistic.
Okay. Good luck with your libertarian anarchy. :-)

Absolutely, it’s nothing more than reverse class warfare. It’s their outright hatred for blue-collar people which they describe by their use of the expression “white-trash”. It’s why they have restrictions against pickup trucks that are used for commercial purposes from being parked in their driveway. Even though that pickup is more expensive than their precious Beemer.
