OUTRAGE: Fury erupts over Ohio police video; NW activists join debate(CCW)
Seattle Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 21 July, 2011 | Dave Workman

Posted on 07/22/2011 7:46:14 AM PDT by marktwain

A profanity-laced dash-cam video from a Canton, Ohio police car that shows a street cop threatening a legally-armed citizen with felony charges, and possible execution, is racing across cyberspace at warp speed, enraging gun rights activists all over the country, including the distant Pacific Northwest.

According to CantonRep.com, the police department has begun an internal investigation. The officer is identified as Daniel Harless, and he has been on sick leave since Monday of this week, the newspaper said. He has also been placed on administrative leave. My colleague, David Codrea, writes about the incident here.

The video, now on YouTube, was posted Wednesday by Ohioans for Concealed Carry (OFCC). It shows a June 8 roadside encounter involving two Canton officers and three citizens in a parked car. The man seated behind the wheel of that parked car was arrested because he allegedly did not advise Harless fast enough – as is required by law in Ohio – that he was armed. There is no such requirement in Washington State. OFCC is definitely making an issue of this case.

On June 8, 2011 the following unfortunate arrest took place in Canton, OH. Notifying the policy when you have a firearm is required by Ohio Law, but when this individual with a thirty-day old license tries to do that he is repeatedly ordered to look away, shut up, or interrupted and "forced" to change what he is speaking about by the actions of an aggressive cop who maintains verbal control of the situation. A two man car dealing with three people put itself at risk when one officer started what appears to be an illegal search of the rear of the car without extracting or securing the driver - which would have given him an opportunity to notify.

The thing that escapes most is the only reason for the outrage is the video proof.

Without the video proof cops are free to do this ALL the time.

And many do.

Not all, but I would think myself correct in believing that MOST behave this way.

They have become the ‘standing army’...

IMHO

It isn’t just Bartlett. Over in the ‘hood’ near Sheffield High School all the way to Hickory Ridge Mall is nothing but cops all the freakin’ time.

The general consensus even among LEO's in Ohio is that this schmuck went way over the line.

No doubt, he will be retired on psych disability and we will all be paying his salary for the rest of his life while he sits around with his thumb up his ass and gets drunk every day.

Some cops, like some civilians, just need killing.

People cannot threaten to kill others without committing a crime.

The policeman is a criminal and belongs in JAIL.

The partner should be forced to testify as a witness, or himself be fired.

Ossifer EgoRoid should not only not be carrying a gun, he shouldn’t be allowed to carry so much as a flashlight as a mall cop.

Still not clear exactly what the guy was doing in that neighborhood with his car pulled over to the side of the road, but from what I could tell, he wasn’t breaking any laws

That translates into: "Nobody's f*ing business. " Get it? That includes the pigs.

Threatening first degree murder, even under the color of law, is a felony in the State of Ohio.

The arrest of the civilian is still to be resolved, but the criminal in uniform has not yet been charged.

I agree with your statements, unfortunately there has been a “brain drain” from law enforcement, much as has occurred in the public schools. People who are seriously interested in good, ethical police work go for elite services such as the FBI, DEA or Secret Service, or go to law school and become district attorneys. So, local departments get more thuggish steroid heads, just as public schools seem to have more than their share of slutty teachers...

Here in PA, they use unmarked as radar or VASCAR platforms. They radio a marked car down the road to pull over speeders.
The Unmarked pulls in behind the marked car as back-up.
I dont think they can pull people over with unmarked cars, but I could be wrong. there was a few wannabe cops who bought their lights and uniforms from a catalog and started to pull women over. Big problem....

That’s what I need!

Got a source for such, maybe a brand and model number, hopefully not too expensive?

also fed felony too, but the real issue should be doing this to a 'rambo' type guy who has nuthin better to do than take out the trash when threatened like this...but when that happens, its always 'reported' that some crazed lunatic killed a cop, not that he simply culled the herd of a rabid dog...

point being, without solid A/V *proof* of wrongdoing, and the balls to use it, this incident was just a day at the office...Im bettin the cop ends up as a deputy in some podunk town in new mexico if he gets any *punishment* at all...

Too many bad cops on the job who have entirely too much time on their hands. They tend to make mountains out of molehills.

Just this week I saw a motorist (no passengers) pulled over by a county sheriff’s vehicle. by the time I drew even with him there were four sheriff’a vehicles. As I continued down the road two more were rushing to the scene.

It seems that we’ve got too many police officers who get bored and haven’t anything to do except ride around in air conditioned cars. Budget cuts? Take a look at local law enforcement. The central socialist government is another boondoggle.

“That sentiment applies to the entire public sector currently. Ever dealt with some of the drunk-with-power commissars at your local building inspection department?”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Some of my most frustrating experiences involve dealing with the county government commissars. It can be like talking to a rock. I have wound up thinking they cannot possibly be as stupid as they act, it must be a passive aggressive routine. Answer the same question the same way LITERALLY six times and they act as though they are asking you for the first time and cannot understand your reply. Then they act as though I am the idiot. They must be specially selected for the ability to look normal at first glance although having an IQ of no more than fifty.

I think your post 68 was particularly summative of the general situation.

Like many other Freepers, I have a deep and abiding distrust of many LEOs. Most of the ones that I have encountered over the years tend to be overly aggressive and needlessly so.
