Boehner: House will compromise on debt limitAP

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner predicted Thursday that a majority of House Republicans will end up supporting some kind of compromise to avoid a government default. Democrats insisted that higher tax revenue be part of a deal.

White House budget chief Jacob Lew told reporters at the Capitol that "I'm unaware of a deal" between President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans and he repeated that "we've made clear revenues have to be included."

All sides pushed against media reports that Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, were near an agreement on a grand bargain trading $3 trillion or so in spending cuts and a promise of $1 trillion in tax revenues through a later overhaul of the tax code as part of a deal to extend the government's borrowing authority.

"We're not close to a deal," White House spokesman Jay Carney said.

"While we are keeping the lines of communication open, there is no 'deal' and no progress to report," Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said.

What seems clear is that the White House and Boehner continue to negotiate in hopes of a large deficit-cutting package as an Aug. 2 deadline looms on extending the debt limit.

"''There has been a meeting of the minds ... to try and get a grand bargain, a big deal," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md. "I think both sides have remained focused on that."

Good. There should NOT be any compromise on a financial condition that unstopped absolutely will damage our country.

Of course it doesn't; this free republic and the minute the AP prints is it instantly believed despite people here claiming they don't believe the LSM.

I don't like this Boehner character; I think he is far too soft (that's my nice speak for "he is compromised). However, I don't think the guy is an idiot. He knows damn well that a tax increase will deep six the economy.
America can pay her bills; what the fight is over right now is how much shit the socialists (in both parties) can keep without the public lynching them. They know straight up we could cut all sorts Federal Agencies and the people would never, ever notice. The Federal Government wastes entirely too much of the citizenry's taxes as it is and it is time the Federal Government (and many, many state governements) are drawn in and made (forcibly if necessary) to operate in the lean.

Guess what D.C? You had your fun. You went on a drunken spending spree and now you have to live with it as well.

NO. MORE. OF. OUR. MONEY. As a matter of fact, cut the deadbeats off the dole and give ME back WHAT IS MINE.

/freaking tired of the bullshit games the politicians are playing (and the media I might add).

The AP always lies.

You know, I think I am with you here. The spin on this article is attempting to make this look like a dem victory if there is an agreement. But 3 or 4 trillion in debt reduction followed by an Obama defeat in 2012, may improve the economy to the point where tax increases will be unnecessary in the future.

GOP House members - Be prepared to be unemployed next Nov. You will single handedly reelect the Marxist to the WH for another four years and there will be no America left to even hold an election come Nov 2016.

It’s BS, so far as I know. As one blogger put it, “More psy-ops,” to demoralize conservatives.

No, there are REAL consequences....could something good come out of it?..I’d rather not gamble that much with this weak economy as it is. A temporary deal is good enough in my books. I don’t trust Obama to do the right thing, regardless...but at least we’re bidding time and getting someone to back this direction.

If he was lying that blatantly, an effort should be made to strip him of his Speaker’s job.

He probably deserves that anyway.

Not a doubt in my mind that crybaby and his cronies will cave

"Cave" implies giving in on something one was not willing to give in on before.

However, Boehner has said all along that he was pursuing a debt ceiling limit, but with conditions. You must not have been listening.

Boehner: House will compromise

I have no idea why this should suprise anyone, in light of the fact that the first lecture Boehner gave the new freshman on their first day on the Hill was about how they had to be ready to be adults and raise the debt ceiling.
