Rick Perry wins Iowa county straw poll
Politico ^ | July 20, 2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 07/20/2011 9:48:34 AM PDT by Clairity

Clay County GOP chairwoman Kirstine Thiessen confirmed that Perry won the straw poll vote the other night, which was held among those on hand for a planned meeting. The county, I'm told, is in Rep. Steve King's district, and abuts Minnesota.

Of the 59 votes cast, Perry won with 15, followed by Michele Bachmann with 9, Thiessen said. Rick Santorum got eight, Ron Paul got 6, Hermain Cain got 5, Thaddeus McCotter got four, and tied with Tim Pawlenty and Mitt Romney for that number. Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin each got two votes.

It's not quite a representative sample of the larger Iowa electorate, but it is worth noting.

"Palin isn't running. [yet] If she were, she would have announced by now."

I'll agree that that's Perry's only chance. Because when Sarah finally announces, his campaign is over.

As for Greta's poll being "scientific," her poll more closely mirrors an actual vote than any other telephone poll. How many people answer their phone when it rings? What percentage?

Okay, now what percentage actually get up, go out and vote?

To answer Greta's Poll, you have to get up, log on to your computer, pull up GretaWire and do it.

A far higher percentage of people willing to get up and vote are also among those willing to take part in Greta's Poll, compared to the percentage of couch potatoes who just answer their phone.

Logic ain't your long suit, is it darlin'? Just askin'.

No. I do my own analysis. If Polygrip disagrees with me, he should read my posts... he just might learn something.

I am looking for a conservative, not a republican.

I don’t like being threatened with Obama either.

I know the stakes. The country is a stake and we need to not add to it by electing someone who would open our borders.

I will vote against Obama, but if the candidate is open borders I won’t waste my time fighting against open borders when we elected someone who is open borders.

Doesn’t count. Straw polls ONLY count when SARAH! wins them, otherwise they are just meaningless white noise.

‘The country is a stake and we need to not add to it by electing someone who would open our borders.’

Perry wants passage of a measure requiring every person arrested to be run through the federal immigration databases as part of the Secure Communities program. He also wants to provide the state Department of Public Safety with the authority to make sure someone is in the U.S. legally before issuing a driver’s license.

>These measures, along with a ban on sanctuary cities, would “provide a clear message that Texas will not turn a blind eye to those breaking our laws,” Perry said in a statement.
“Texas owes it to the brave law enforcement officials, who put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities, to give them the discretion they need to adequately do their jobs,” Perry said.
http://www.rickperry.org/media-articles/perry-adds-immigration-issues-lawmakers-agenda-0?amp

>Gov. Perry has made numerous requests of the federal govt. to enforce the border in Texas including handing President Obama a letter in person when he landed in Dallas last year.
(Obama insulted governor Perry when he turned away and Perry had to hand the letter on the illegals issue to presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett. Obama declined to personally accept it.)

>Gov. Perry refuses to meet/greet Obama in May 2011 at El Paso during his Texas tour.
Perry later declared, “If he wanted to meet, I was in Austin.

>Perry signed into law photo ID required before voting.

WHAT have other states done?? (with the exception of AZ Ok and Ga)

What have other candidates stated that they would do?

What has Sarah stated she would do?

What is Backmann’s plan?

What did Reagan do?
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/jan/06/rudy-giuliani/yep-reagan-did-the-a-word/
President Ronald Reagan was the first president in history to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. On November 6, 1986, he signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986, [PUB L 99-603]. In so doing, he set a precedent whereby the United States would not seek to deport illegal aliens, but to reward their lawbreaking by granting them full citizenship.

NEWSFLASH! None of them are going to do much.
We have to take the best of the lot.

“We have our ticket: Perry/Bachman ‘12.”

I’m not interested much in Perry but I’d take that ticket over Romney/Guliani.

I like what I have seen but I need to see more.

Take a gander...

Insightful comment on the page...

Wow, 5th consecutive survey with Palin gaining support; now at an all-time high.
This despite the fact that she has been nearly invisible in media for the past month.
Wow, just wow.
Norwegian on July 20, 2011 at 1:05 PM

I agree, wow.

I meant I would like to see more of their views on things, economic and social issues.

I will vote my conscience not who is popular. I’ve done that in the past and have repented of it.

Although I do like some of the trends in support I am seeing, it isn’t nearly as much for Mittens as the MSM and his supporters on here would have us believe.

Thanks for posting that.

Im sorry I dont recall saying Id vote for Romney either. Read my posts before speaking please. So let me repeat myself. Right now I have reservations on ALL that are running now esp. Bachmann and Romney. Im very hesitant on Perry, he has been around 25 plus years in Texas politics and no one can tell me he isnt part of a crowd. He isnt the independent conservative I want so until there is a R and D that is stamped in stone I will voice my opinions and displeasures accordingly got it!!! and one more thing I can bet you dollar to donuts that their are just as many Texas Freepers that feel the same way I do.....

Last night, Greta Van Susteren had a poll on GretaWire. You could only vote once. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Yup and 3 of those votes were mine. I stopped after testing it.

Agreed by the Aug. 11th debate. Her only hope at this juncture is the Bachmann headache story raises her up in the polls a tad. Palin defenders SWORE she would beat all in polls even though she is not running. I saw Palin be interviewed by Hannity and she proudly said she does need a title to help; why can’t her cult that has formed on here (of which I am sure she would not be proud of knocking tea party candidates) see that and stop dishonoring her with there childish statements of jealous Nellie Olson’s?

Perry is Romney’s Kryptonite.

Perry is a Romney type RINO.

More enthusiasm for illegal aliens.

Less enthusiasm for socialized medicine.

We can and should do a lot better.

“I meant I would like to see more of their views on things, economic and social issues.”

Oh, ok, these might be good.

The results of this will be forthcoming, I don’t know when. Honestly, I don’t see this being an accurate tool but ought to be interesting...

http://www.votesmart.org/pdf/2012/pct/2012_Pres_Political_Courage_Test.pdf

This was popular in 2008 http://www.ontheissues.org/default.htm but was kind of biased to outright RINOish. They failed to interpret everything correctly and once something was posted on the site they didn’t do much follow-up.

Still, it is their research, not a candidate bellowing into a microphone...
