A lesbian couple is suing a Vermont inn, claiming it refused to host their fall wedding reception because of their sexual orientation.
Kate Baker and Ming Linsley filed the suit on Tuesday in Vermont Superior Court, accusing the Wildflower Inn of Lyndonville of abruptly turning them away after learning they are lesbians.
They claim the inn violated Vermonts Fair Housing and Public Accommodations Act, which prohibits inns, hotels, motels and other establishments with five or more rooms from turning away patrons based on sexual orientation. The law makes an exemption for religious organizations.
..I think this case could set an important precedent not only for Vermont but for other states with marriage equality, Professor Johnson said,
...The current lawsuit alleges that in October Ms. Linsleys mother, Channie Peters, spoke with the events coordinator at the inn, which has 24 rooms and is on 570 acres in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, according to its Web site.
Ms. Peters said the coordinator referred to a bride and a groom while discussing the bridal suite; Ms. Peters said she corrected the woman and they continued their conversation.
Shortly after the conversation, Ms. Peters received an e-mail with the subject line bad news, according to the lawsuit, and was told the innkeepers did not allow same-sex wedding receptions at the site.
After our conversation, the e-mail reads, according to the lawsuit, I checked with my innkeepers and unfortunately due to their personal feelings, they do not host gay receptions at our facility.

I never voiced it, but you did -- I share your sentiments exactly. I didn't care if they had their own apartments together, whatever. But the gay parades, marriages etc. tick me off.
exactamundo — they set this hotel up.

That is Miss Piggy on the right!
Yeah, as if there are no other quaint inns in Vermont. The place is crawling with them often run by transplanted New Yorkers.
What you failed to grasp in the past is the fact that shoving their “death style” down our throats and corrupting our society and children (they can not reproduce so they need to recrute “fresh meat” to fill their sexual needs as others they have used up and destroyed have gotten sick and died off) has been their goal all along. It is not enough for them to “live and let live, they must bend society to accept and promote their perverted way of life lest they become convicted by the reality that what they are doing is perverse. We all stand in the way of their achieving this goal, therefore we must be made to submit by whatever means necessary.
Most conservatives don’t care what other people do in the privacy of their homes. If they are homosexuals, that is between them and their maker, to whom they will answer, just as long as they do not infringe in any way upon the rest of us.
Not our business.
But when they infringe on others with things like this, and requiring our tax dollars to force us to publicly support their stance, to drive the costs of business up by requiring employers to treat homosexuals in the same fashion they treat a man and a woman, then it IS our business.
The last conservative area in Vermont...sounds like the queers want ALL of Vermont to kneel before their unholy agenda.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."
A great way to undermine the moral fabric of the country to be conquered...note the ACLU sign in the photo...
Great...another pay day for the ACLU at our expense.
Go to the inn’s website, and you will see that they stress a ‘family-oriented atmosphere’ with an emphasis on children’s programs and activities...I would be spitting blood if I had booked a weekend with my wife and seven children only to find the place overrun with mentally-disturbed queers on the same weekend. What about MY rights to keep my children shielded from that BS? There are PLENTY of fag-friendly B & B’s in Vermont...they just want to destroy those who won’t capitulate...simple as that.
>>But the gay parades, marriages etc. tick me off.
Have you seen Zombie’s documentation of some of the stuff in SF?

That links into the “safe for work” “warning - bad stuff comes next” page.
I figured this pair would be “lookers”... as in “look away, look away”!!
They are going to lose in court - the law is blatantly and shockingly unconstitutional but the courts will not do their job to protect the innkeepers. I would suggest that they capitulate, agree to take the wedding, and warn the “customers” that the gay mafia is imposing their will by force on an unwilling business. If the lesbians insist, then the couple deserves what they get - exactly the service that forced servitude (slavery) deserves. I would comply with the letter of the law, not with good grace or good service, but just barely above the threshold that would be actionable in court. “Oh, dear, it’s a shame our staff are under the weather on the day of your wedding, but working together so closely, it’s no surprise when we get sick together and either can’t make it or the few who can are moving so slowly.” I would also check the contract VERY carefully and make sure it spelled out damage limitations in case of inadequate facilities or service.
My word is my bond, and I have a moral obligation to deliver in any contract, a common belief among those victimized by the gay mafia. This is, however, not morally a contract if one party is forced to accede to terms that violate their God-given and First Amendment protected fundamental human rights. The innkeeper’s only moral obligations are to God, country, family, and community, not to these outside bullies. If the lesbians are dissatisfied with the service, that is no different from a rapist complaining that the victim wasn’t enthusiastic enough. In general, homosexuality is merely sinful, a crime against God and self. This couple has taken it to a whole new level, crossing that threshold to genuine evil.
How about the inn owners raising the cost of the wedding/reception to at least three-times what they usually charge, and well above other local venues. . .after all, the loss of revenue to their family friendly establishment will suffer because of the sicko's must be covered by the sicko's. Also, I am sure the owners decided to retire after this event and wish to have enough funds to finance their retirement. And you can bet these sicko's selected that Inn because it said "family friendly." What is it with those sicko's that they are against families?
“Yeah, as if there are no other quaint inns in Vermont. The place is crawling with them often run by transplanted New Yorkers”
Actually, should read:
“Yeah, as if there are no other quaint inns in Vermont. The place is crawling with them often run by transplanted QUEER New Yorkers.”
Better
Well stated.
