President Obama on Friday kept up the pressure on Republicans to agree to revenue increases in a deal to raise the debt ceiling, claiming 80 percent of the public supports Democrats' demand for tax increases.
"The American people are sold," Obama said. "The problem is members of Congress are dug in ideologically."
Throughout the press conference, Obama blasted Republicans for ignoring what he said is the will of the American people by rejecting tax increases that would balance out spending cuts in a debt package.
"This is not an issue of salesmanship to the American people," Obama said. "I hope [Republicans are] not just listening to lobbyists and special interests ... I hope they're listening to the American people as well," Obama said, citing "poll after poll" showing Republican voters, as well as Democrats, believe in taking "a balanced approach" including both increased revenues and spending cuts in a plan to cut the deficit.
Obama repeated his warning that the country is "running out of time" to avert a financial Armageddon.
"We should not even be this close on a deadline," Obama said. "This is something we should have accomplished earlier."

I guess he forgot about the official poll taken last November.
Here is Ann Couter's analysis. If the voters are going to punish the GOP for a frontal assault on entitlements, give Obama a poison pill to eat.
Well, yes.
That’s a given.
This president must be tootin’ the blow again. Someone better be giving him a drug test soon!
“President Obama on Friday kept up the pressure on Republicans to agree to revenue increases in a deal to raise the debt ceiling, claiming 80 percent of the public supports Democrats’ demand for tax increases.”
Words can’t describe the contempt felt in the face of this Demagoguery.....
>>No. The problem is that liberals, socialists, and communists, including the one sitting in the White House, are dug in ideologically.
You Said: “No. The problem is that G.W.B. ruined the US in his 8 years. period”
So are you sticking up for Liberals, Socialists, or Communists? Go back to DU, TROLL
IBTZ?
0% of those pay taxes is my guess. The ones polled, if they even did a poll, are ones that pay no taxes, resent anyone that works and makes decent money. They want higher taxes on others so they can keep their free sh*t. What an effed up country we have now. Sooner of later there will be a full blown tax revolt and I can’t wait to see DC brought to it’s knees.
We shall see. I don’t buy it.
1) Obama will spend whatever he wants, and demand more.
2) the cuts will be phony
>>Id love to know where he pulled that figure from...other than the obvious orafice.
Simple. 40% of Americans don’t pay taxes, so they want higher taxes...on the people that already pay them. Another 20% or so who do pay some taxes believe that raising taxes on someone else will lower theirs. And the last 20% are wealthy liberals who can afford higher taxes and are assuming that the higher tax rate will be accompanied by some really cool new loopholes to shelter their earnings.
“Hes just trying to sweep up the pieces left by his predecessor.”
By bankrupting the nation, increasing taxes to confiscatory levels, and selling out our sovereignty quicker than anyone ever thought to try?
Are you sure you are in the right forum?

Where ya been since March?
“It is easy to support tax increases if you dont have to pay them.”
Weiler’s Law - Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn’t have to do it himself.
He’s correct, by damn..... only, it is 80% of what he deems are Americans - those on welfare, EITC, EBT, WICs, AFDC, SCHIP, Affirmative Action, illegal, and anybody else that I forgot that do not work. He doesn’t think of the rest of us as Americans - we are subjects not to be trusted, ever.
1 trillion to 3 trillion is NOT a deficit increase of 2/3 (66%). That is a deficit increase of 3/1 - 300%
Trying to be as objective here as possible...if I were some sort of Democratic operative, I don’t think I’d be pleased with Obama here. I think what he said is simply objectively and quantifiably wrong.
I think he could probably get away with something more modest like “a majority of the people want higher taxes on the wealthiest 1%”. Now, of course, that isn’t what they would actually do, but, at least the D’s would arguably have the numbers on that....But I really, really don’t think that 80% of Americans want higher taxes. And it is DEFINITELY not the case that 80% of LV’s want higher taxes.
Which, if I were a Democrat, I would be squirming, thinking that all Obama is doing is antagonizing the other side, when the D’s are already hurting electorally.
Bottom line: the more he says outrageous stuff like this, the better off we are.....
