Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Michelle Bachmann gain Iowa momentum says new poll
La Times ^ | 7/14/11 | Tony Pierce

Sarah Palin, Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann are surging in Iowa, according to a recent American Research Group poll of Republican voters.

Rep. Bachmann (R-Minn.) received 21% of the nods from the poll of 600 likely Republican caucus voters, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who came in second with 18%. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), who Wednesday said he wasn't "cut out to be in politics," came in a respectable third place with 14%.

But Palin's results were impressive. In April a similar poll found her receiving only 4%, but now a similar group of Iowans put her in fourth place in the most recent results with 11%. Not bad for someone who hasn't even officially tossed her hat into the ring.

In April Bachman received only 9%, while Paul had only garnered 3% support. In just a few short months they find themselves in good positions.

I have a hunch Ron Paul will win and upset in IA but not the nomination.

Polls are meaningless.
Ron Paul?
Ron Paul will NEVER be the Republican candidate for President nor is he likely to garner more than minimal votes in any Presidential primary

Cain seems to have petered out pretty quickly in Iowa for some reason. I guess Bachmann and now Palin are sucking all the air out of the competition right now. Cain really hurt himself seeming ill-prepared to discuss foreign and military issues. It communicated he wasn’t quite ready. I lean toward Cain unless/until Perry and/or Palin get in. Not thrilled to see him drop, though. I’d like to see him among the top 3 or 4 at least.

It’s tough to be the new dog in town these days,, name recognition doesn’t come cheap,, and unfortunately a lot of good candidates get left in the dust when the media finally gives them lens time.

Also, this cycle has started so early, it becomes next to impossible to ‘pick a winner’ much less the final few that survive the next year and make it to the convention.

Now, if Paul could have figured out how to translate winning meaningless polls into winning actual votes, he would have already been president.

As a Palin supporter I'm thrilled to see her poll numbers rise quickly in Iowa. However, at this early date, I just can't take poll numbers, even those that make my preferred candidate look good, too seriously. Still, as the L.A. Times story states, it is impressive. The 'she's not running' crowd can bray that meme all they want but until such time as Sarah Palin actually says that she isn't running, she'll have my support in whatever way I can offer it. Meanwhile, I'll continue to hope that Sarah Palin will run.

I think that Michele Bachmann has presented herself and her platform far better in interviews than Herman Cain has.

When Sarah announces it will be like The Beatles appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show: Millions will go crazy with excitement and many will bemoan it as the end of the world...but everyone, I mean everyone, will be watching.

You Betcha!

I can't wait until we don't have to hear anymore about that crazy uncle from Lake Jackson, Texas, Ron Paul.

Ron Paul spam-bots will be full throttle trying to punk the polls.

Palin's announcement (within a month) will virtually end the Primary cycle. She'll raise an unheard of amount of money in a couple days alone, and every other contender will in that same brief timeframe plummet to insignificant "also-ran" afterthought status.

It's hers for the taking, and she darn well knows it.

While the 80%+ support she gets here on FreeRepublic is not repeated nationally, her insurmountable support and name recognition throughout all of Heartland America is supermajority in scope.

Shock and awe is about to visit Election 2012. Palin is its name.
