Kathy, thank you for this one :-)

Son-in-law was stationed there for three years, so we got to see daughter and four grandsons fairly often (drove up and down the I-5 from Oregon many, many times!)

Now they're stationed at European Command, two years down, one more to go. We're hoping and praying that their next tour will be in SoCal (either Camp P., or MCRD again). Hopefully NOT Okinawa (again) or Guam (again)!

Old School
July 12, 2011

As we hurtle through the first part of this new century, we see an increase in people questioning time-honored standards. This was plainly detailed recently by a teen pop star—a girl who professes faith in Jesus.

While discussing standards for modesty in how she dresses, she discounted criticism of her skimpy clothing by saying, “That’s so old school.”

This young woman is both right and wrong. In a sense, she’s right. The standards of dress for Christians are “old school.” They were written down more than 2,000 years ago. But her attitude that suggests ancient standards can be set aside is wrong. In the truest sense, the principles in the Bible are not “old” as much as they are timeless. While written ages ago, they are still fresh and applicable.

As to the question of modesty, when the Bible says women should “adorn themselves in modest apparel” (1 Tim. 2:9), it is still true today that we shouldn’t dress to draw attention to ourselves. A more general principle, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed” (Rom. 12:2), is a 2011 command that can guide the question of how we dress.

So whether you’re a pop star or a pew sitter, don’t worry about being “old school” if what you are doing is done according to the Book.

Dear Lord, help us to follow the timeless
standards of the Bible in speech, clothing,
and other lifestyle matters. May all
we say and do bring glory to You. Amen.

Do my choices bring glory to God or draw attention to me?

Read: 1 Timothy 2:8-10;

I desire . . . that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel. —1 Timothy 2:8-9

Psalms 4-6; Acts 17:16-34

I made a trip thru the museum a few years back, even got to see the old grinder where we marched our little feet on ‘til we got it right.. well worth the visit back.

I spent 99 days there in the summer of ‘72.

The old quonsets huts are gone , man did those things cook.. after weeks of huts and barracks, training, drilling and PT, the trip up to the range was fun, finally getting out of the MCRD and hitting Edson Range felt good, we did a week of mess duty, and two weeks of snapping in and qualifying with M14s, ya felt spent everyday, and then it was off to the bush country for some learning about blowing up stuff.. the last month was getting pretty.. and testing... and finally graduation, and off to the fleet after more training.

seems like yesterday..

God bless those who serve us proud today.

OORAH!!!

My twin brother went through boot camp at MCRD and at the same time I was across the fence going to US Navy boot camp in San Diego.

During our respective 4 year enlistments, we saw each other twice.

He was on his way to ‘Nam when I got married and was unable to be my best man. bummer.

Aloha Night Owl!

Back to the training grounds tonight.....although I was Navy, the Navy decided that training at Pendleton was in thier best interests.

Who was I to argue?

Thanks for the memories, Lauren!

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our

military, our allies, and their families

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.

~ Today...Mostly sunny.
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon.
Hot with highs in the mid 90s.
West winds 10 to 15 mph.
Chance of rain 20 percent.

~ Tonight...Partly cloudy.
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening.
Lows in the mid 70s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
Chance of rain 20 percent.

Interesting. This says today mid-90s and our local station said 100. Either way - YUCK!

Major thunderstorm came through last night.
This was a surprise to me since the last I'd heard was clear and hot all week.
Now, I'm seeing that we may finally start the down hill slide back to 80s.

Time to make my rounds and then back to work.
But, you stay right where you are.
Don't touch that dial. And, remember – I’ll be watching!

The FR Canteen is

So, come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee,
pancakes,
conversation,
silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above Honoring those who have served before.
