Thanks for co-sponsoring laurenmarlowe’s thread tonight Kathy!
I was there Feb 24 1980-May 16 1908 Plt 3018, “I”ndia Co.3RTBN. Best time of my young life back then.
I made a trip thru the museum a few years back, even got to see the old grinder where we marched our little feet on ‘til we got it right.. well worth the visit back.
I spent 99 days there in the summer of ‘72.
The old quonsets huts are gone , man did those things cook.. after weeks of huts and barracks, training, drilling and PT, the trip up to the range was fun, finally getting out of the MCRD and hitting Edson Range felt good, we did a week of mess duty, and two weeks of snapping in and qualifying with M14s, ya felt spent everyday, and then it was off to the bush country for some learning about blowing up stuff.. the last month was getting pretty.. and testing... and finally graduation, and off to the fleet after more training.
seems like yesterday..
God bless those who serve us proud today.
Good evening Conor...how is Mrs MacNessa’s wrist doing? I do hope she is out of pain.
It’s a shame to hear the huts are gone.
There were some historic buildings there when I went through in ‘74. No matter how old the building, the floors sparkled, the brass shined, and every damned rock and pebble was in it’s correct spot!
:)
Remember the crazy S.O.B. with the funny hat that chased everybody off the bus?
