Libs Outraged Over Paul Ryan’s $350 Bottle of Wine, Silent When Nancy Pelosi Drowned $101,000

Cheers.

For some reason the libs weren’t so outraged when Obaama served $399 bottles of wine at his taxpayer-funded state dinner …

… but Libs today were “stunned” and “outraged” that popular conservative Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) ordered a $350 bottle of wine for dinner in New York.

TPM reported, via Ann Althouse:

When [Professor Feinberg] saw the label on the bottle of Jayer-Gilles 2004 Echezeaux Grand Cru Ryan’s table had ordered, she quickly looked it up on the wine list and saw that it sold for an eye-popping $350, the most expensive wine in the house along with one other with the same pricetag.

Feinberg, an economist by training, was even more appalled when the table ordered a second bottle….

“We were just stunned,” said Feinberg…

She was outraged …. [my emphasis]

What do you mean? That $350 compared to $600 isn’t moderate? It would be to me.

Who paid for the wine? The people sitting at the table or the American taxpayers?

If the former, who gives a flying Obama?

What if there’s something to celebrate and we don’t know it yet?

Thank you for your concern.

When we lived in OK, we had a monthly wine club service that sent us excellent small-batch California varietals.

The difference is, that the United States military are truly serving all of us and their salaries are part of the defense budget, which is (imo) non-negotiable. If said Military person goes to have a beer, especially those serving in actual ‘crapholes’, there should absolutely be no problem with that.

v/s congress whom have, for the most part, higher salaries than the private sector (us) and have perks which only you and I could dream of: i.e. top medical attention (located in their particular buildings btw), top retirement plans (paid for by us) and top salaries.

The military is constitutionally mandated for the protection of this Nation and I have absolutely no problem with my tax money paying for the budget for them.

As I said in another post, I’m not attacking Ryan. Ryan seems to be an upstanding person and after reading how he handled this situation, that opinion was re-affirmed. What I do have a problem with is that any Congressperson feels it’s ok to frequent hi-end resturants on the taxpayers dime.

I’ve heard about it, but the stuff at Walmart is regularly priced $2.97 a bottle, sometimes marked down to $1.97. I mix it with Diet 7-up, and buy something decent if I’m going to drink it straight. We get some South African wines at a good price in the grocery stores.

I’m not looking at Ryan specifically but rather congress as a whole. Why do you think it’s ok to live lavishly on the taxpayer’s dime? Is it because Ryan is a Repubican and hands are off? Like I said on another post, Ryan seems to be a fine individual however, I think we can agree that alot of the ‘fine’ individuals we’ve voted in, in the past, abused their positions and have raped the taxpayer.

In this particular case, it was reported that Ryan paid for the wine out of his ‘birthday’ money. That’s terrific and what I would expect from someone held up as a conservative. But on the flip side of that coin, I’ve voted for ‘so-called’ conservatives who have completely abused the system and lined their own pockets.

The cost of the bottle is so high because these wines are highly desirable amongst collectors and restaurants all over the world, and not much is made.

In other words, supply and demand. A $350 dollar bottle of wine in a fine restaurant can be had for much less from a winery or bottle shop.

I enjoy wines and have some fairly expensive ones, nothing more than $100 however. Most of them I've gotten after tasting them in wineries. When I find a wine I really like, I buy it.

I've seen enough taste test's to know...it's not the price of the wine..that "makes" the wine. It's what you like.

I agree. It all comes down to personal preference. What appeals to one may not to another.
