The United Church of Christ, the denomination whose Chicago pastor Jeremiah Wright blasted the United States and white people for years from the pulpit while Barack Obama sat in his pews, has decided to banish God "the Father" from its organizational documents.
A report from Eric Anderson on the denomination's website confirmed that delegates to the UCC's "General Synod 28" agreed late Monday to a series of proposed amendments to the constitution and bylaws. The vote was 613 in favor of the changes, 171 against and 10 abstaining.
The changes include a pointed deletion of a reference to God "as heavenly Father," which has been part of Christendom's description of the Trinity for millennia the three persons of God being the heavenly Father, Christ the Son and Savior, and the Holy Ghost, the counselor and comforter.

Surely you jest...."the man of Nazareth" means that Jesus is God?
Why did you pick one phrase out of the three that were stated??? Let me guess; you are a Catholic...
And how do the other two phrases make explicit the Divine Sonship of Jesus? Capitalization does not count....creeds are meant to be spoken and heard.
In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Savior, you have come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to yourself.
How??? In Jesus Christ is how God came to us...Just as the scriptures states and just as this statement says...
And how do the other two phrases make explicit the Divine Sonship of Jesus? Capitalization does not count....creeds are meant to be spoken and heard.
How??? Because it shows that God was manifest in the flesh, and that flesh was our Divine Savior...
Creed??? Some folks wouldn't know what to believe were it not for someone shoving a creed in their faces...I know what I believe from reading the scriptures...And the Catholic spoken of in your creed does not exist in the scriptures...
You can have your creed...I'll stick with God's spoken/written words, the scripture...
This has nothing to do with Calvinism, but as we’ve seen, any spitball will do when papists’ Scriptural artillery runs empty.
From the...
III. In the unity of the Godhead there be three Persons of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.[38] The Father is of none, neither begotten nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; [39] the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son. [40]
I believe even the Romanists agree with this understanding, but who knows for sure?
I’m sure you accept, then, when any idiot Catholic heretic does something stupid that contradicts the infallible doctrine of the Catholic church that he is not representing Catholicism? Any idiot can know that he is not, since the Catholic Church actually declares definitively its interpretation of scripture.
The United Church of Christ is the second largest American denomination in the Calvinist branch of “Reformed” Christianity, and they just banished the phrase, “God the Father.” If they can “interpret” away the clear meaning of scripture, you expect that they’ll treat the Westminster Confession of Faith better? Sure you aren’t suggesting that Calvinists place the Westminster Confession above the bible, so that they could toss out the bible, but somehow must retain the Westminster Confession?
The Westminster Confession of Faith is predicated on the Bible, unlike the RCC catechism which just makes things up.
The UCC may still call itself reformed, but it’s not by any stretch of the imagination.
And I don’t care what “any idiot Catholic heretic” says about the “doctrine of the (Roman) Catholic church” because since so much of it is not soundly based on God’s word, most of it is junk anyway.
The United Church of Christ is the second largest American denomination in the Calvinist branch of Reformed Christianity....
I had to stop reading right there - I was laughing too hard.
"For as soon as God's Word becomes known through you, the devil will afflict you will make a real doctor of you, and will teach you by his temptations to seek and to love God's Word. For I myself....owe my papists many thanks for so beating, pressing, and frightening me through the devil's raging that they have turned me into a fairly good theologian, driving me to a goal I should never have reached."

Really, that is a very unkind way to refer to the former Catholic Freepers you pal around with on thee threads (but we all know exactly who you are referring to).
Do you ever wonder if animals have an afterlife? Have you ever had a beloved pet die? Will you see your pet in heaven? But your pets can only be saved if they are of the elected selected Reformed elite, apparently. So, we have the Reformed God bringing the pets of the Reformed directly to Heaven, and along with their masters, living forever in the glory of the Reformed God, whilst the bulk of humanity and all the rest of Creation burns forever in hellfire for the Reformed God's pleasure. That is the liberty of the Reformation - only if you are one of the liberated ones, whether you be human, animal, vegetable or Democrat. The second Adam - Christ - came not for the majority of humanity, but for the pets of the Reformed, doncha know?People generally assume not. The Bible certainly doesn't teach it. But the Bible doesn't deny it either. And the Bible does teach some other things that might bear on the question.
What is disgusting is that this group (the OPC/PCA) pretends to be Christian while spouting it's hatred for Jews and Christians alike
It’s pretty clear
to anyone reading this thread
that when Christians
criticizes your sect,
those criticisms decry
your sect’s perversions and
your sect’s practices
and beliefs
that are anti-Scriptural,
whereas the “strong language”
your sect seem to employ is simply name-calling.
There’s never ever ever ever ever a core to your sect's argument.
No discussion of
your sect’s faith,
your sect’s practices,
your sect’s beliefs,
your sect’s perspectives,
your sect’s ideology,
your sect’s theology,
etc.
There’s hardly even a mention of your sect.
Are the cultists afraid of your sect’s reputation?
Your sect’s history?
Your sect’s incoherence?
Most people are delighted
to share with others
the community that helps
them to experience and know true faith in God.
But with your sect, all we get is blather.
There is an inherent absurdity with Dr Eck’s sect’s POV: Gods not satisfied with damning a person before the beginning of creation, but after the person is dead, hed have to resurrect him and tell him, Im going to punish you in hell forever because you perfectlythough you had no choicefollowed the plan I set out for you since before the beginning of the world, all for my good pleasure and greater glory. Thats just perverse piling on. And again we have to ask, Glory before whom? If all is created by God and determined by God, then there is no other who before whom glory, to whatever degree, is to be manifest and no context within which glory would even have any meaning. The whole thing is nothing more than an audience of one, the sound of that ones hands clapping. Even Zen makes more sense than that.
Now the EPC has pastoresses and soon the OPC will follow
Thus, the Report continues the conspiracy of silence that has prevailed in the OPC for three decades. It leaves the erroneous impression that the serious doctrinal problems are outside the denomination, not within it. The Report gives false comfort to those who think the OPC is still a bastion of Biblical orthodoxy. On the contrary, the Report, and the 2006 General Assemblys commendation of it, both maintain the OPC as a safe haven for those who teach erroryou can read the details at the link on page 109 why the Former Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) ruling elder Paul M. Elliott says that
.....
Men within the OPC, including at least one member of the Committee itself, teach heresy regarding the Gospel and many other fundamentals of the faith.
The authors thesis is that the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) is today exactly where the PCUSA was back then.
lightman -- iscool's cult believes in Modalism and that God's spirit possessed a man called Jesus and then left him on the cross.
hardly -- they say nothing of His Divinity.
See, iscool -- this is the ultimate end of such modalistic philosophy, to deny Christ's and the Holy SPirit's divinity
your cult should repent of it's non-Christian beliefs and return to Christ. Well, since your cult's membership never varied beyond one, it shouldn't be too difficult.
We would warmly welcome you, lightman!
In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Savior, you have come to us
If you can't see divinity in that statement, your blind in one eye and can't see out of the other...
Like your cult, this cult also seems to believe that Jesus was just a man, not God, that Jesus was a crucified man sent as a Savior -- not God according to this cult and yours
