Noam Chomsky denounces old friend Hugo Chávez for 'assault' on democracy
The Guardian ^ | 7/3/11

Posted on 07/03/2011 1:41:45 PM PDT by markomalley

Hugo Chávez has long considered Noam Chomsky one of his best friends in the west. He has basked in the renowned scholar's praise for Venezuela's socialist revolution and echoed his denunciations of US imperialism.

Venezuela's president, who hasrevealed that he has had surgery in Cuba to remove a cancerous tumour, turned one of Chomsky's books into an overnight bestseller after brandishing it during a UN speech. He hosted Chomsky in Caracas with smiles and pomp. Earlier this year Chávez even suggested Washington make Chomsky the US ambassador to Venezuela.

The president may be about to have second thoughts about that, because his favourite intellectual has now turned his guns on Chávez.

Speaking to the Observer last week, Chomsky has accused the socialist leader of amassing too much power and of making an "assault" on Venezuela's democracy.

"Concentration of executive power, unless it's very temporary and for specific circumstances, such as fighting world war two, is an assault on democracy. You can debate whether [Venezuela's] circumstances require it: internal circumstances and the external threat of attack, that's a legitimate debate. But my own judgment in that debate is that it does not."

Noam.... Did you just notice that this guy doesn’t like democracy?

My suspicion is that Chomsky did not receive his latest check from Chavez in the mail.

How come Chomsky waits until Chavez is in a Cuban Hospital with half his guts cut out to attack the man?

What the hell’s Chomsky whining about, now? Chávez is the obvious culmination of everything Chomsky stands for.....

He’s just too stupid to realize it.

Chomsky reveals he has lobbied Venezuela's government behind the scenes since late last year after being approached by the Carr centre for human rights policy at Harvard University.

Amnesty International and the European parliament, among others, have condemned the judge's treatment

It is pretty obvious someone has been feeding Chomsky’s ego.

A prestigious organization asked him to intercede on behalf of the imprisoned judge.

So Chomsky gets the chance to be the internationally recognized hero whether he succeeds or not.

And since these prestigious Lefty organizations like Amnesty International Have come out against Chavez he is free to criticize him if it is to his advantage.

How long is this guy going to be around? (Chomsky, not Chavez.) I remember talking to his obnoxious students years ago. They liked to explain to me, like geniuses talking down to a moron, that if the terms were properly defined, an atheist and a Christian would discover they actually agreed on the question of whether God exists.

Well guess what? If you play by Chomsky’s rules, the atheist is right and the Christian is wrong. This is because the term ‘God’ is robbed of so much meaning, it becomes an empty concept, and you discover the Christian believes in ‘nothing’—which dovetails perfectly into the atheist’s beliefs.

Chomsky and his students are small-minded and insufferable. Why can’t the man retire and spend his golden years on the links? He’s done way more than enough damage for one lifetime. Let it go, and let the next mindless liberal have a crack.

The Guardian reporting on a slapfest between Chomsky and Chavez.

Sounds like the plot for a new disaster movie:

Chomsky’s a moron- the reason why Communism cannot work is because few humans can resist absolute power- which is necessary to deprive everyone of their private property. I hope he’s someplace crying into his autographed copy of “Das Kapital” because his Venezuelan hero turns out to be of the same cloth as Stalin, Kim, and Pol Pot.

Trying to figure out what a “libertarian socialist” is.

Noem Chompski is a completely died in the wool liberal fascist. If Chomspaskeeter is denouncing Chavez, wait and see who he or shee is.It means that there is an understudy in the works who will be ushered in as a kinder gentler democracy friendly fascist.

All that remains is to wait and see who he or she is.

, Noem Chomper Chomski, is right up there with the very worst of other a$$ hat liberal fascists in the Obama regime, which has brought RULE of our people, rule by ideologue fascist academics. He has never served America, and is unAmerican.May he rot from the feet up to his allegedly vaunted brain. When it comes to American freedom, he is our country's foremost village idiot, and that's going a lot, bause Howard Dean is second.
