A chief Republican critic of a controversial U.S. anti-gun-trafficking operation was briefed on ATFs Fast and Furious program last year and did not express any opposition, sources familiar with the classified briefing said Tuesday.
Rep. Darrell Issa (Calif.), who has repeatedly called for top Justice Department officials to be held accountable for the now-defunct operation, was given highly specific information about it at an April 2010 briefing, the sources said. Members of his staff also attended the session, which Issa and two other Republican congressmen had requested.
Fast and Furious targeted Mexican gun traffickers but was linked to the killing of a U.S. law enforcement officer. Republicans in Congress have criticized the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives over its handling of the operation, with Issa calling it felony-stupid bad judgment during a hearing last week in which he grilled a Justice Department official.
At the briefing last year, bureau officials laid out for Issa and other members of Congress from both parties details of several ATF investigations, including Fast and Furious, the sources said. For that program, the briefing covered how many guns had been bought by straw purchasers, the types of guns and how much money had been spent, said one source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the briefing was not public.
All of the things [Issa] has been screaming about, he was briefed on, said one source familiar with the session.

The ATF
Let’s hope this smear backfires and makes Issa even more determined.
Either way, the veracity is the same.
On the other hand, it shows Issa why he should live 100% pro 2A and gun rights, everyday, because your radar goes up the moment they want to "brief" you, and you'll catch 'em out.
Congress was briefed on an operation Holder and the head of the ATF didn’t know anything about?
Winner winner chicken dinner B I N G O
Oh, ok, since an unnamed source didn’t care, it must have been ok. /s.
Here's proof: On every US news site where commentary from 'Operation Fast And Furious' is permitted, up until today the discussion has been dominated by RKBA proponents aghast at the BATFE's crimes. Democrats have largely been silent, hoping that this all go away.
Now this article comes out and you'll see the Democrats finally come out swinging as if this story actually means something, when it doesn't.
It is time to appoint an Independent Prosecutor.
Very brilliant assessment you hit the nail square on the head.
Of course, the pro-Obama pair of WaPo writers don’t KNOW what Issa and others were actually BRIEFED on because the ATF refuses to SAY!!!!
Other than that, the standard WaPo “circle the wagons and attack the accusers” bit of Clintonesque methodology works just FINE, don’t it baby??!!
The clear implication of that statement is that some official in either the BATF or in the Justice Department has leaked confidential information to the Washington Post in an attempt to interfere with the oversight responsibilities of Congress.
Where are "the authorities" on this issue - surely there is at least one felony involved in that act.
"ATF is in the midst of uncertainty about its leadership. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. met on Tuesday with Andrew Traver, President Obamas nominee to head the bureau. Travers nomination has stalled in the Senate, and law enforcement and other sources said this week that ATFs interim leadership could be changed in response to pressure over the Fast and Furious controversy."
"But sources said Tuesday that the acting director, Kenneth E. Melson, has not indicated any plans to resign. One source described morale at the troubled agency as poor, with officials and agents uncertain about what will happen next".
Even if true, do they think that makes it OK for the government to ship guns to drug cartels that are ised to murder innocent people including border patrol and US citizens?
Using WaPo’s logic, it’s apparently more wrong not to stop a heinous act than to commit one.
Weak DOJ attempt to hit back at Issa using its WaPo surrogates. Who do they think they are fooling?
See post # 32. If the media were doing their jobs and not trying to shamelessly drag Issa in on what they know are Holder and Obama’s crimes.
The headline should be...
Melson, has not indicated any plans to resign
< / media BS PC OFF>
Melson is not Resigning
Exactly.
REALLY did the secret source say whether the BATF told them that the weopons were allowed to WALK INTO MEXICO TO DRUG CARTELS?
This article is pure diversion.
