Not another Texan? How about not another Ivy League Lawyer?
American Thinker ^ | Russ Vaughn

Posted on 06/22/2011 6:12:00 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

The liberal media are already tipping their hands as to whom they fear most as a Republican presidential candidate and it should come as no surprise that it's Texas Governor, Rick Perry. And just as they did with John McCain back in 2008, they are showing that they are going to try to subvert the Republican primary process by promoting the Republican most likely to lose to Obama. One of their developing mantras to nip a Perry candidacy in the bud is, "Not another Texan," hoping of course to reignite Bush Derangement Syndrome as Rush Limbaugh is pointing out.

And why is it the liberals so fear Perry? Could it be because no other Republican candidate's record contrasts as starkly with Obama's string of failures as Rick Perry's Texas successes? Could it be that no other Republican candidate's policies are as diametrically opposite those of Barack Obama's Big-Brother, centralized national government as Rick Perry's forcefully stated and defended positions on states' rights and the 10th Amendment? Could it be that few other Republican candidates can take the stage with Obama and be every bit as physically imposing with even a bit more matinée idol appeal to the soccer moms?

....And though Palin makes their liberal bowels quiver, it's Perry who truly terrifies them. While they can embrace some truly dumb politics, liberals are cunning enough to sense emerging political danger, especially on a horizon out in flyover country, far from their shrinking coastal enclaves.

Rick Perry is smart enough to realize this, which just may be why he hasn't jumped in already. But should he, no Republican contender will stand in such stark contrast to Obama as Perry.....

I’ll be satisfied with “not another elitist” -

no one who thinks they should, due to their superiority, make decisions for others,

should be anywhere near any positions of power to do so.

Shame on the Bushes for treating Rick Perry in this manner....well, Perry showed them and still beat Kay Bailey Hutchison to pieces in the primary even with the DC elitist Republicans help.

Rick Perry did not attend an Ivy League School? That by itself is a big plus for me.

Texas A&M. He's an Aggie!

It shows it can be done. Rick Perry does know how.

.....If obummer brings up the point that he inherited a bad economy from the last Texas governor, Perry can say “So did I and look what the Texas economy has done under my leadership”.

I saw that. It's too perfect!

They are not bad. Will get better with a little seasoning.

I liked that they had their mom in one of their videos.

Have no opinion on Rick Perry...yet! Unless, better him then Obama counts.

Of course, better "The Band Perry" then Obama as well so that is not saying much.

Great stuff on Rick Perry! I sure hope he runs. He’s not perfect on immigration but he can whip Bammy Boy. Beat Bammy Boy by 20 points.

Things I don't like about Perry include him having been a Democrat politician up until 1989, and his having been a the Gore campaign chairman for Texas in 1988.

Things I like include his being from Texas A&M rather than yet another Ivy League guy, having been an active-duty air force officer and pilot for five years, having worked in a real job (working the family farm) before going into politics.

He's not as conservative as Palin, but he seems for-real and as a successful governor of Texas for ten years nobody can play the "inexperienced executive" card on him. Also, at 61 he's old enough to have some mature wisdom, but not too old.

MORE:

[excerpt].....When Obama continued to refuse even five minutes for the Governor, Perry took matters into this own hands and was standing on the tarmac at Austin’s airport when President Obama stepped off of Air Force One. Obama looked confused, Perry looked determined. Obama still ignored the pleas for help.

Perry again took matters into his own hands, and established an elite unit of Texas Rangers to bolster border security.

Perry also challenged the administration just a few weeks ago when FEMA refused to declare a federal major disaster following wildfires that consumed over 2 million acres in Texas.

“Now the citizens of Texas—and even the nation—are watching to see if Texas lawmakers will stand tall with Governor Perry for the constitutional rights and the dignity of our people,” said Texas Rep. David Simpson, who wrote HB 41.

State Senator Dan Patrick who is gathering votes for the bill in the Texas Senate said, “The people’s voice has been heard in Austin. Thanks for the literally thousands of calls & e-mails. This is a ‘Come & Take It Moment’ again for Texas. Once again Texas will take a stand that will reverberate around the nation.”

Lt. Governor David Dewhurst said, “Addressing unreasonable and unlawful searches of innocent travelers by some TSA employees is an issue that affects all Texans who use air travel, and it should not wait until next Session.

“After working closely with the Attorney General’s Office the last few weeks, I’m confident that we can pass legislation that addresses these threats, while protecting innocent passengers and preserving our state’s rights.”
Should Rick Perry enter the GOP field of candidates for the 2012 Republican nomination for president, the conflict between Perry and Obama could take center stage on a national level. [end excerpt]

If the Texas legislators pass that anti-groping bill and Perry goes toe to toe with the Feds over it I might just start leaning his way.

An interesting twist of unintended consequences has been provided by the State Senator Wendy Davis of Fort Worth who showed her power by filibustering the budget bill into a special session. What a gift...all of the legislation that the dumbcrats had bottled up....now the genie is out of the bottle and with only a simple majority needed in the special session it can all be passed. Wendy, you have proven to be a “poster girl” for blonde jokes! Thanks!

No kidding! Wonder what that's all about.
Scratch the surface and we're likely to find some “paul” prints, seems the paulistas still have a vendetta on Perry for Deb Medina doing her “sag-pants” number in the debate and subsequent hard crash.

[excerpt]....The other potential major candidate is Texas Gov. Rick Perry. His top aides are signaling that he is clearly thinking about running. If he does, Mr. Perry would skyrocket to the top of the heap, smashing most of his GOP rivals - including Mr. Romney. He is the anti-Romney - an authentic Texan, who has a long record of achievement and proven conservative governance. Mr. Romney talks a good game; Mr. Perry actually plays one. The rap against Mr. Perry is that he looks and sounds too much like former President George W. Bush. He has the same twang and cowboy swagger. After the disastrous Bush years, the country does not want another Texan Republican in the White House, say his critics. Maybe.

Yet, Mr. Perry has one trump card: Texas. Under his leadership, the economy has boomed. As the country remains mired in a deep recession, Texas is growing. It has created more private-sector jobs than any other state. He has reined in public spending, restored fiscal responsibility, removed regulatory red tape, maintained flexible labor markets and stood up to the unions. There is no state income tax. He is a real Reaganite. He has combined pro-growth policies with flinty social conservatism.

Moreover, he is a principled defender of the 10th Amendment. He understands that federalism and states’ rights are not just buzzwords. They have been the key to America’s prosperity and success. The most urgent problem of our day is the expansion of the federal leviathan. It is strangling the economy, burying America under a mountain of debt and sapping the country’s vitality. Power must be devolved back to the states, enabling them to become the laboratories of democracy - as our Founding Fathers intended. On a range of economic and regulatory issues, Mr. Perry has directly challenged Washington’s overreach and incompetence.

Both Mrs. Bachmann and Mr. Perry signify a new development in American politics: the rise of nationalist populism. For decades, liberalism has been ascendant. The New Deal erected an entitlement state and brought to power a liberal ruling class - what the conservative philosopher James Burnham called “the managerial class.” This political and cultural cadre has dominated American life. Government agencies, the permanent bureaucracies, the mainstream media, universities, public schools, Hollywood, the arts, trial lawyers, the Federal Reserve, big banks and large financial institutions - they have all helped to sustain the progressive project of turning America into a rootless social democracy.

For a while, it seemed to work. Peace and prosperity ensured that any ideological assault on liberal hegemony could be contained - and eventually marginalized. Now, however, Mr. Obama’s misrule, combined with the growing economic chaos, threatens the very moral legitimacy of our liberal minders. They can no longer be believed or trusted.

Liberalism is in crisis. And as the regime cracks, insurgent populists are starting to fill the void. Middle America is on the march. [end excerpt]
