Sarah Palin ("insubstantial") and the media bring out the worst in each other
Austin American-Statesman ^ | June 19, 2011 | Leonard Pitts

Posted on 06/20/2011 2:34:48 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

[snip]

The only thing more telling than watching Palin treat members of the media as a kitten does a ball of string was watching the media take it, watching them bend over and grab their ankles like freshmen in a frat house hazing as the paddle comes down. "Thank you, sir! May I have another?"

....Palin and the media bring out the worst in one another. They — we — are like two people in an abusive relationship so poisoned you wonder why they stay in it.

...Palin seems to enjoy the role of political gadfly and center of attention. And, let's face it, the money's not bad.

As for us, I think we are drawn by a lurid amazement that someone we find so insubstantial is viewed by many as being of presidential timber.

Beyond that, there is our ongoing fascination with the shiny bauble, the bouncing ball, the car crash. Palin addiction grows out of the same hollow judgment and inability to distinguish news from entertainment that produces a shark scare every third summer.

If we find her insubstantial, can't it be argued that our addiction to Palin reveals the same in us?

Someone will ask about it, so for the record: Of about 250 columns I've written since 2009, this is my sixth specifically about Palin. A number of others mention her in passing.

I like a good story as much as the next guy. But when you are trailing a bus down an interstate or reading through 24,000 pages of emails chasing news that is not there on a woman whose presidential aspirations are undeclared and whose chances are marginal at best, it's time to wonder: Are you doing a story, or is the story doing you?

You have to laugh. Baaahhaaaha.....

Apparently, the lamestream media has caught some "dumb" disease from Sarah Palin.

The "media" believes it is they who make or break candidates -- that they are the rightful king makers, the agenda deciders, the ones who select the top of the ticket.

They cry out, What has happened to us? Why can't we stop chasing after a woman we know is "insubstantial?" -- the "shiny bauble...the car crash" so unworthy of our attention?

They see only one possible answer -- they've caught some "stupid" cooties from her.

This is the same "media" that sees substance in Barack Obama.

This "media," the one telling us Gov Sarah Palin has them "grabbing their ankles," is the same one telling their readers that Gov Rick Perry is a modern day Chauncey Gardiner who "has stumbled through remarkable luck into the national spotlight."

Baaahhaaaha!!

Look out for way more pseudo-gates interspersed with Obama love fests. After all, it worked so well last time.

Insubstantial?
If they thought that, they wouldn’t be trying to
smear her at every opportunity.

Insubstantial, I give you Leonard Pitts.

Pulitzer Prize Winning Columnist Pitts is distinguishing himself from the pack. He numbers for the reader how many columns he's been suckered into writing. Thinking it a small quantity, he feels positioned to preach to the rest of the lamestream media -- to counsel them about their Palin "addiction."

"Of about 250 columns I've written since 2009, this is my sixth specifically about Palin. A number of others mention her in passing."

“The only thing more telling than watching Palin treat members of the media as a kitten does a ball of string”...

A “ball of string” doesn’t defame, slander and persecute the “kitten” that plays with it.

Let’s see: Obama, Kerry, Gore, Edwards, Biden — I don’t think any Democrat has any right to talk about “insubstantial.”

They are consumed by their hatred, and confused by the fact that an ordinary person would have the audacity to think they could run for President of the United States, especially without their help.

It bothers them that she talks like one of my neighbors, and yet there are enough "stupid Americans" (their opinion, not mine) who are impressed with Palin that she could be a real threat to the established powers structures, including their own Media empires and their influence on policy.

I hope she gets in the race. It will be interesting if she does, and she might be able to save this country. We could return to greatness with a leader who believes in the "American way" and our traditions of freedom and self governance.

Pitts is lazy and obtuse.Good thing he writes little of her because he,and his LSM,wouldn't know substantial if it removed their spleens.
But at least his PDS is few and far between—still he is just another disingenuous Leftist liar hypocrite making money from writing about Sarah while criticizing the writing about someone as “unsubstantial” as Sarah.
The pathetic liberal tools are paying Sarah to live in their heads.

If Sarah is “playing” with the same media who have tried every trick they know to humble and destroy her, then she is the very person to take on our country’s national enemies.

She has demonstrated the ultimate in coolness under fire, and an uncanny ability to twist her media opponents into knots.

Poor old Leonard, still trying to string words into clever little arrangements to make us all think that his thoughts actually have some degree of substance.

Over and over every REAL conservative has tried to explain to PDS suffering Democrat and RINO talking point tools like you about how Sarah Palin’s deciding NOT to bankrupt her family by fighting endless frivolous lawsuits as AK Gov and instead deciding to help spearhead the Tea Party Revolution of 2010 was the greatest political decision of the 21st Century (heck,we wouldn't have Nikki Haley as our Gov if not for the,as you so derisevely put it “half term ex-governor")but do you guys listen? (fess up,you really are a Romney fan aren't you?)

No,it's still Sarah the “quitter” like Moses was just a “quitter” for leaving the Egyptian Royal Family even if he DID take the Jews out of slavery.

Good flippin grief!!!

“This is the same “media” that sees substance in Barack Obama. “

Two-way proof positive that the judgment of the “media” is seriously flawed. That which they endorse is bad; that which they abhor is good.

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight...

Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the LORD Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel.” Isaiah 5:20,21,24
