Rep. King’s amendment failed – here’s the roll call vote. Every Democrat voted against it – but it lost because 78 Republicans also went against stopping over a billion dollars in money being paid out for fraud. Two votes jumped out at me.
Tea Party favorite Allen West (R-FL) voted with the Congressional Black Caucus to keep Pigford funding flowing to fraudsters.
But worse, Darrell Issa (R-CA), who would be the one to get investigations going.

“Soooo many issues would take care of themselves with this one simple change in congress. There’s no reason we should be here wondering WTF Allen West and Darrell Issa are up to. These guys both have great credibility IMO, but this is a strange situation. Should not be, period.”
I don’t think it would be possible for me to agree with that statement any more than I do.
Ted Poe is very good, one of our brightest and best. But so is John Culberson and he voted with the R’s as did Ron Paul (also from Houston area), look like West and Poe have some explaining to do.
Just getting back to the thread. I hope we find out what’s going on here (haven’t read to the end yet, maybe I’ll find out). If West is voting with the Black Caucus just ‘cause they’re black, he’s dead to me.
I am ready to cry but will wait until West gives an explanation. He is a good guy so I want to hear his side.
West, one of two black Republicans elected to Congress in Tuesday’s election, said he plans to join the Democratic-dominated bloc, to challenge, in West word’s, the CBC’s “monolithic voice.”
“I plan on joining, I’m not gonna ask for permission or whatever, I’m gonna find out when they meet and I will be a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and I think I meet all of the criteria and it’s so important that we break down this ‘monolithic voice’ that continues to talk about victimization and dependency in the black community,” West said on WOR radio.
“We’ve got to turn this thing around, and I think it’s time for some different voices to be in that body politic,” he added.

Well, I believe West is one of them. I will wait for his explanation before bailing on him.
The problem is how do we change it. We have to be realistic. Half of the country voted for BHO, and some high percentage supports the Pelosi’s and Weiners of the Congress. We will not be able to make an immediate wholesale change of Congress, which is what is really needed.
Gramsci understood this and took the “long walk” through our institutions. He’s long since dead, but his plans are coming to fruition. To reverse his evil, we will have to a long walk *back* through our institutions and restore them to sanity. And we may not be able to finish that work in our lifetimes.
I don’t know if West has been compromised or he just made a deal with devil. He is from FL, and does ultimately represent HIS district. What do the people in his district want? If West sticks to his principles, and comes back to his district having “accomplished nothing”, he will be out.
I think of poor Paul Ryan. He, like the fictional Mr. Smith, went to DC believing that his job was to actually solve real problems. His modest budget proposal was savaged by the Left (expected), attacked by his own party members (unexpected), and then he was savaged by his own constituents at a town hall meeting (unreal). What the hell do the PEOPLE want? Obviously, they want Harry Potter, or maybe Voldemort to rescue or enslave them. You notice how the media has ignored him now? He’s almost persona-non-grata.
We will have to change the culture to really see change in DC.
I e-mailed him asking for an explanation. I will post it when I receive a reply. I love the man and feel certain he has a good reason for his vote.
Rep. West’s DC office is getting a lot of calls on this, but unfortunately - at this time - they “do not have an answer”. Staffers will only say that they “are sure Rep. West had a good reason for his vote”.
I am anxious to hear the reason. I hope it’s a good one. Maybe I expect too much of him.
Yup same here. I am a Palin/West dude and have been since he was elected, but he better have a damn good reason. I know there’s no such thing as a perfect candidate and I can forgive a lot, but this is, to quote our wondrous VP, A big F’in deal.
I believe he will have a reason but we’ll see.
All I can think of is that this was the yearly Ag bill, not a separate bill on Pigford. The bill they passed was almost $3 billion less then last year and what the president wanted.
Perhaps that’s the catch. Pigford stays but we still save $2 billion dollars then what we would have.

LtC West is your Rep. Can you contact his office and get an explanation as to why he voted this way? I seem to recall that his family are Georgia farmers, no?
No just Poe and West, Culberson, Paul and Backmann voted with the GOP.
I think there’s good reason not to pitch for national office a freshman congressman in his first months holding any elected position.

I was surprised to hear about this too, and will find out what I can. One thing I do know, is that Congressman West always explains his reasons for his votes.
Sometimes I think “conservatives” are willfully blind.
West makes all kinds of exceptions on abortion, which should be your first clue.
A few weeks back, West voted to keep a hundred million dollars in funding for ObamaCare school clinics...which anyone with a brain knows are nothing but a gateway to the Planned Parenthood abortuaries.
West is a conservative and you are right he isn't a RINO chump...Issa...can't be trusted...
