Mexico, several other countries seek to halt Georgia's new anti-illegal immigration law

The Anti-Defamation League, Mexico and the governments of several Central and South American countries filed court papers Wednesday in support of efforts to halt Georgia’s tough new immigration enforcement law.

The other countries joining on the side of those seeking a preliminary injunction in the case include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru.

The American Civil Liberties Union, the Southern Poverty Law Center and several other civil and immigrant rights groups filed a federal class-action lawsuit against Georgia's law this month and are now asking a judge to halt the measure pending the outcome of their case. They argue the measure – also known as House Bill 87 – is preempted by federal law and is unconstitutional.

“HB 87 substantially and inappropriately burdens the consistent country to country relations between Mexico and the United States of America,” Mexico says in its brief in support of halting the law, “interfering with the strategic diplomatic interests of the two countries and encouraging an imminent threat of state-sanctioned bias or discrimination.”

Just so I'm clear on this, no one, and I mean no one, has standing to question the qualification of the Long Legged Mac Daddy Barack Hussein Obama to be President of the United States in any court, anywhere. However, Mexico and a bunch of other third world hell holes are perfectly in their rights to sue a state over internal legislation.

By now, the Founders would have given The Finger to the foreign interlopers.

That these countries can file at all is astounding. Pray for our nation!

I wish we’d shut the damned borders down.

The US should BILL MEXICO one million dollars for every wetback caught... for processing and handling, and then release them at the southern tip of Mexico.

Can you imaging these countries filing lawsuits against, say, Russia or China, about their immigration laws?

Of course not, they would be immediately told to mind their own damn business.

Do foreign governments have standing in US court on immigration matters? I thought that’s what diplomats and diplomacy was for.

The old USSR would not only laugh, they would invade them and trash the place.

I am very skeptical of the whole concept of nation building, but rather than attempting it on the other side of the world, I would far rather we gave it a shot south of our border first. Mexico should be one of the wealthiest nations per capita in the world. Like us, their problems are unnecessary, man made restrictions on liberty.

Perhaps they should go after Mexico’s illegal law first. Just a suggestion.

I am sure that the citizens of Georgia will reconsider thier actions in light of the displeasure of the Mexican government. In the future the Georgia legislature should consult with the Mexican consulate regarding future legislation. After all, Mexicans are the original people of Georgia. /s

Yes, and hold the $1 million each out of whatever aid we are giving them, so as to be sure we actually get some of the money.

“WAR WITH MEXICO!”

In the long run it may be necessary. Their problem is their own government, with its entrenched corruption, incompetence, deceit, venality and stagnation. “Regime change” would do us AND them a great deal of good. Normally intermeddling should be avoided. We have reached a point though where their problems have become our problems.

I have a better idea. Stop all money transfers to Mexico. No more running to the local convenience store and zipping $500 home to momma. Make them mail it.

Exactly. How can any foreign government have standing to sue the US Govt or a state government over regulating something that is now and always has been illegal? Furthermore, how can they demonstrate harm without confessing to their citizens’ breaking our laws?

This deserves a big lol dismissal by each and every court in the land.

“Mexico, several other countries seek to halt Georgia’s new anti-illegal immigration law”

They don’t control our legislatures yet, but they’re working on it.
