MSM Mum on Obama’s ATM Gaffe
FOX news ^ | 6/16/11 | Alex Fitzsimmons

Posted on 06/16/2011 4:52:33 AM PDT by CitizenM

On the June 14 edition of NBC's "Today," President Barack Obama ascribed part of the blame for the high unemployment rate to ATMs, yet most media outlets continue to ignore the gaffe.

"There are some structural issues with our economy where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient with a lot fewer workers," lectured Obama in an interview with NBC's Ann Curry. "You see it when you go to a bank and you use an ATM, you don't go to a bank teller, or you go to the airport and you're using a kiosk instead of checking in at the gate."

Curry moved on to another subject without addressing the faux pas, but she's not the only journalist to gloss over the story. Despite the fact that the automated teller machine was invented decades before Obama took office, a Lexis search revealed that not a single major news network, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FNC, and MSNBC, has covered the remark on air.

Obama on our economic recession and unemployment:

First...Obama blamed Bush
Then...Obama blamed Europe and the earthquake in Japan.
Now...It it the ATM machine that is at fault

It in NEVER Obama or this Administration who is responsible.
Who next....Little green men from Mars?

Last week Obama tells the country that we must be more inventive. This week technology gets thrown under the bus when ATM's are faulted for our employment losses. Those poor machines, that have been around for decades...are now the bad guys in the USA. Gee, Obama...will the economy recover if we round them all up and shoot em, take them out, shut them down?

It’s newsworthy only if a Republican says something stupid.

A lot more people would be employed if we all worked inefficiently. Sure.

There are more bank tellers then there was 20 years ago. Their numbers increase every 10 years according to the government labor stats.

Our enlightened pissadent is now spouting the same rhetoric about employment and automation since the computer was invented. While it is true a good number of clerical positions were lost due to computer impact, where does his majesty think most of the productivity gains over the past 50 years came from? Never having run as much as a lemonade stand, he does not understand the concept of overhead and production. He is an empty suit, period, end of story. I would also point to a flatening of managerial lines too but again his majesty only knows the government system, one manager for every three or so underlings up the ladder.

One of O’s former classmates said he encouraged Obama to take more history, but the future president declined.
It’s probably safe to bet he never took one economics course. Not. One.

Not that we’ll ever know - since he isn’t going to release his academic records.

hmmm.....I wonder what the future Obama presidential library is going to look like with all that “history” on display?

It is time to get rid of traffic lights, and replace them with unionized armed traffic cops. A light can’t do full TSA checks while asking for Obammycare papers. Do it for progress; do it for security; do it for the children; do it for the unions!

ATM Industry Not Happy About Obama Comments

The Automated Teller Machine industry is not happy about President Obama’s comments that the development of ATMs has cost jobs. Here’s a sampling of some of the feedback I’ve been getting.

Mike Lee, CEO of the ATM Industry Association, emailed me the following response:

‘President Obama should never use ATMs as an example of how technology replaces human labor because ATMs today play a critical role in providing extensive employment in the ATM and cash-in-transit industries. In addition, ATMs provide an indispensible range of services to customers, including all-hours access to their own banked cash.

A lot more people would be employed if we taxed the living daylights out of Chinese imports to the point that eventually Americans will see more of a demand to make the same goods in America.

Get a major reduction of poor quality imports off the market, put a gag over Walmart because obviously they will scream bloody murder.

Enact a nationwide program to start small businesses to fill in the spots of manufacturing some of the products we are used to buying from China.

Perhaps he meant ATM’s were costing jobs as in Anglo To Mexican jobs.

And math teachers are no longer needed because all the burger flippers have to do is press the button for the appropriate burger and it figures the cost and how much change to make.

Modern Cash Registers are costing jobs!

Who next....Little green men from Mars?

Just in case you didn't hear about this yet, I had an automated robot fix my tire as I was driving down the expressway at 65 MPH. How about that??? Neatest thing I've ever seen.

His mind betrays his thoughts and spews them out his mouth. Unless he is chained to the teleprompter and a very tight script he is always going to blow it.

He is not exceptionally smart, he is not even moderately smart and absolutely can’t control his words unless scripted

He always makes up nonsense, like doctors yanking tonsils and even legs just to make money.

Have a lawyer just like him in our neighborhood, ready to spout off on any subject w/o the slightest information.

No, a lot fewer people would be employed. The price of virtually everything would be higher and the people would be poorer for it.

Try studying economics before issuing pronouncements so you don't sound like Obama bad-mouthing ATM's.

The media are up to their same old dirty tricks. Contrast today's hands-off treatment to the hysterical and perpetual rantings of the media re Bush 41 and UPC scanners. Snopes has a good coverage of how the media unfairly skewered B41 here.

Fox&Friends were lambasting The O on his ATM remarks. It wasn’t pretty. No wonder the White House doesn’t like FoxNews.

I just want to see China reigned in before the whole planet becomes Chinese.

But then again you are absolutely correct, if we allow China to expand eventually they will have to deal with Islam, let them take care of that global problem.

Though I find it convenient to have major big box stores full of affordable gimmicks overall the quality is continuously inferior in every detail from light bulbs to bikes.

Shut the door on China and America will grow strong again.
