"—a Churchill in drag—"

ARRRGH - what made you come up with THAT term?
Maggie was a sharp dresser (with what she had to work with) - Winston, also quite dapper......ahh, never mind.

“Then why was it polluted with pagan nonsense?”

You apparently don’t even realize you’re doing it...so be it.

Pope JP2 was part and parcel of the Reagan era and the fall of the Soviet empire. Deny it all you like. Palin hypothetically visiting his grave is not a matter of religious anything. It is a matter of her acknowledging his importance in that era/events.

I used to work with a guy that took a bullet while fighting in Grenada with the marine corps and never once heard him utter a single word against Thatcher.

For Palin and Thatcher to meet and share thoughts and ideas about the future (and any other topics) sounds like a fantastic “dear diary” moment that Palin will never forget. Hopefully Thatcher will be invited to Palin’s inauguration.

Good points. I was unaware of that as a factor, but a very important one indeed with the DNC and Obama’s lawyers still crawling all over the place there.

Damn. Always had respect for him/listened when he was on the radio in these parts. Hope he has a turn-around.

I refused to believe it when I first heard it, but then I heard it come out of his own mouth. My jaw dropped. I, too, hope that he returns to his good senses.

There is a downside though. The VERY next day the Msmlibs can and likely will trot out yet another totally BS ‘ethics violation’ to ‘tie around her neck’ saying that she got away with it in an attempt to cause grief.

They can’t help themselves, and such a move will backfire just like all the rest, but that won’t stop them.

JP2 and Lech Walensa had AS MUCH to do with the wall coming down as Reagan and Thatcher. Im not Catholic supporter, or a Pole, but thats just a fact. There’s a reason that the eastern block tried to assassinate JP2.

Very true and for someone to deny that or minimize him because of his religion is just nuts.

“I thought Argentina and Britain were both US allies...

EXACTLY!!!!!!”

A couple of points, first of all whilst Britain, a democratic nation, is an ally of the US and many would say the US’s most important ally, Argentina, in 1982 a despicable Fascist dictatorship, was not an ally. They invaded the Falklands (as the Brits won we get to call them by their name of choice) and therefore not to get too schoolyard about it, they started it so blame the Argies for the conflict if you must.

Far from being “dumped on” by Thatcher, the UK government merely issued a meaningless press release on behalf of the Queen who happened to own Grenada and might have been informed of the invasion privately as a matter of good manners, unless you think Queen Elizabeth is a closet Marxist who might have tipped off the Commies.

Ronald Reagan, a man who had, I imagine, a somewhat more informed idea of international politics than you, had no problem with Margaret Thatcher. Reagan was repaid for his assistance in 1982 by Thatcher allowing US airbases in Britain to be used in the bombing of Libya in 1986 something which the US “allies” in Europe, Spain and France steadfastly refused to do, forcing the US planes to fly thousands of miles extra to avoid their airspace.

Some dumping.

So tell us what really lies behind your hatred of Thatcher? There’s no way such a petty and now almost completely forgotten incident as the Grenada business can be behind such vitriol.

"Do we know what this new church is/was?"

I don't recall. This was just a tidbit I picked up during voluminous study of Palin. I'm sure the information can be found. If I get a few minutes, I may do a little retroactive digging around to see if I can find it again.

Let’s clear that up a little. She joined a Pentecostal church for one period of her young life, but in more recent years she and her family have attended a non-denominational community church, and it was the one that somebody tried to burn down while there were children inside.

Reagan and Thatcher expanded military research and increased strategic deployments—these actions bankrupted the Soviet economy by forcing them to overspend on defense. The expense of Counteracting Star Wars and Pershing missiles wrecked the evil empire and began to starve the people.
By the time the two Poles kicked down the communist door the house was already rotten.

Thanks to RR and MT.

Thank you, sir. Just trying to keep the history factual. But I "did" like the idea of a sudden plague of media apoplexy.

Here's my favorite:

Man dies and goes up to heaven, sees that there are actually two pearly gates. Above one is a sign saying "predestination" and above the other is one marked "free will". He ponders this for a while, and then goes in the one marked "predestination". Behind the gate is an angel.

"What are you doing here?" asks the angel.

"Well," says the guy, "I just got here and saw the two gates. This one was marked predestination and I'm a good calvinist, so I came in here."

"Wrong" says the Angel. "You stood there and could have freely chosen either gate. I think you had better go out and choose again."

So the guy, a bit miffed, walks out and goes into the gate marked "free will". Behind the gate is another angel.

"What are you doing here?" says the angel. "Well," says the guy, "the other angel sent me here..."

And the moral of the story is - all these little ways we have of dividing ourselves up are nowhere near as important to God as we fondly think they are...

Non-denominational community church? That could mean almost anything...

I did a search and couldn’t find anything definitive. It looks to me that it’s just a standard Christian church based on the pastor’s interpretation of the Bible. There are a bunch like that here in AZ. They often follow the general Catholic/Christian teachings without the ritual/dogmatic aspects of Catholicism.

Not meant as a slam to Catholics...I was raised/are/kinda one.
