Newborn Azalan Cruz
PHOENIX, Arizona, May 24, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) A Phoenix woman who doctors feared was in a life-threatening pregnant due to the fact that she was carrying her child outside her womb, has now given birth to a healthy baby boy.
The Arizona Republic reports that Nicollete Soto, 27, refused to consider abortion, even though doctors told her that her life was at risk.
Instead, she continued with the pregnancy up to week 32 before doctors delivered a premature, but healthy little boy, Azelan Cruz, weighing 2 pounds, 14 ounces. The name is a variation of Aslan, the name of the lion who is a central Christ-like figure throughout C.S. Lewiss Chronicles of Narnia.
“We took a risk,” Sotos boyfriend, Victor Perfecto, told the Republic. “We left it for the doctors to decide when to deliver the baby and God to decide everything else.”
“She decided, ‘I want to keep going,’ ” he said. “All I could do is support her and be there.”
Surgeons feared that the babys placenta may have attached to a vital organ in Sotos abdomen, meaning that any rupture could have led to a catastrophic loss of blood. A team of surgeons was on hand for any emergency. However, doctors discovered upon delivery that the baby had attached to a spot where the fallopian tube joins with the uterus what they call a corneal pregnancy.
The area usually does not stretch and the tube ruptures between 12 14 weeks. But according to the Republic, Dr. Rodney Edwards, director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Center at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, explained that Sotos tube just continued to stretch, allowing her to continue to carry the baby.
He also said he could not recall any case of a cornual pregnancy resulting in the successful delivery of a baby.
“This is just a case that proves, in medicine, nothing happens ‘always’ or ‘never,’ ” Edwards added.

I remember this happening about 25 years ago to a woman who had had a hysterectomy and had an implanted baby on her bowel. she carried it through until the baby was losing ground and then they removed it and it lived.
> We left it for the doctors to decide when to deliver the baby and God to decide everything else.
I’m pretty sure that God decided everything.
God bless them all.
They could get married.
Yes, Senor Perfecto. Marry her immediately and praise God.
Would that I had faith like that.
I admired my brother when my mother passed. As much as I am 98% sure there is a God and my long-suffering mother (long story) is not just with Him but in a special place, my brother and many here have that 100% certainty I just can’t get to.
But I do pray, for others, and I do thank God for this miracle.
Like the name they chose.
I hope that was an only child - can you IMAGINE the abuse the siblings would heap on the poor thing - "ewwww - you came from mommy's bowels! Mommy pooped you!" LOL
Flame me if you want, but you will see if you read the article, this was paid for by the taxpayers. And I’ll bet it wasn’t cheap.
Another anchor baby we funded and a whole family of dim voters.
Sorry folks, I’m just getting tired of this crap.
I’m thrilled at the outcome, glad she was brave enough to carry the baby and trust God, but I do so wish we could step back in time to a time when most babies were born into intact families with a mother and a father who were committed enough to each other and the child to be married when the baby was born. It’s hard for me to understand how we have come to such a place in such a short time.
However, may God bless this child abundantly and my prayers go out to this little family.
My first thought as well!!!!
May God Bless and Keep this pro-life family.
A Phoenix woman who doctors feared was in a life-threatening pregnant due to the fact that she was carrying her child outside her womb, has now given birth to a healthy baby boy.A life-threatening what?
Maybe I should ping every other typso I see?
So was the baby contained in the uterus, but the placenta was attached to the tube, or what? It’s a bit hard to understand from this article.
I read the article and saw no indication anywhere that taxpayers had paid for this procedure.
Another anchor baby we funded and a whole family of dim voters.
So, a couple with a Hispanic name in Phoenix is to automatically be declared illegal aliens? There is no indication in the article that they are not Americans.
You may not be aware of this, but there are a great many families in the southwest part of the country that have been American citizens for generations.
Sorry folks, Im just getting tired of this crap.
Conservatives are getting tired of libertarians and their anti-life utilitarianism.
Why do you assume they are illegal immigrants, and this is an ‘anchor baby’? “Indigent” doesn’t mean immigrant, it simply means someone who would be on ‘welfare’.
