MADRID -- Spain's ruling Socialist party has suffered a bruising defeat to conservatives in the municipal leg of elections and looked headed to suffer big losses in regional government races as well.

The article goes on to say:
“The voting comes against a backdrop of economic angst.
“Protest camps of mainly young people sprang up in cities around the country a week ago and swelled to tens of thousands of demonstrators who on Saturday defied a government ban on gatherings the day before an election. The growing protest movement reflects the strong disillusionment felt by Spaniards toward a political system they say favors economic interests and political fat cats in both major parties on the right and left over ordinary people.
“The government did not disperse the demonstrators, including the largest group camped out in Madrid’s central Puerta del Sol square opposite city hall. Protesters on Sunday voted to stay in that square until at least May 29.”
Two important points: People are angry about the political system that favors economic interests and fat cats in both major parties. This sounds a bit like Tea Party people who will probably end up disappointed by both the left and the right. Another fact is that Spain has 21% unemployment, a lot worse than us. Another important point is that Spain illustrates the difference between a democracy and a dictatorship. The Spanish authorities are not forbidding the right of peaceful assembly.
They have finally figured out that socialist cannot supply everything they promised no matter how much of your money they spend.
The elections of 2012 can’t come quick enough....
Excellent news! That Mr. Bean commie’s party is going down.
“Considering they voted socialist right after a major terror attack......”
The Brits voted Churchill out at the end of WWII.
The pendelum can swing pretty fast in europe.
Hopefully it cans swing fast enough to oust Obama and the Senate majority in 2012, after voting him in, in 2008.
The dropout rate by formidible GOP Potus candidates, leads me to think the political bigs don’t think Obama wil be easily ousted. (Barbour, Huckabee, Trump, Daniels)
Sadly, I concur.
You’re right. It’s easy to battle truth with truth in an election. It’s not so easy battling lies with the truth.
When I was still living in canada, my best buddy from Spain invited me to a “party” and little did I know it was a party for the BASQUE separatists in Spain. They were the craziest people I met from Europe, but not as dumb as liberals. Just crafty devils. Either way, I had a good time without talking about politics.
people around the world are waking up that socialism does not work , of course we still have the idiots here thinking it does because we have raised a bunch of brats who want everything for nothing and are dumb as hell.
Ever feel like the bus left for the big bash and you were left behind?
yessss
Perhaps our day in the sun will come next year.
And it was a great country to visit, low crime, low prices and great food. One thing Franco was NOT was Communist. He was as anti-communist as he could be. A semi-dictator, yes but Communist..no way.
Or they think that the Dems will fight like cornered rats, and whoever the Repub nominee is, will have every "indiscretion" he ever made put on display on the evening news every night.
Spain has to reduce their regulations if they want to increase their prosperity...something that the Socialists would never do.
The Marxists are having a field day as comments on that article.
Spain during Franco was a wonderful place, some of best people you will ever meet live there, and there are thousands of retired airforce people living there today. Franco was actually a conservative, and a member of the Spanish conservative party of the time.
The GOP will nominate someone other than those currently in the field. Many are dropping out to clear the way for someone new. I favor drafting Ryan since the economy will be the number one issue followed by Obamacare and the deficit.
“After the 2012 election it is time for a replay of the House on UnAmerican Activities investigation.”
Problem is you’ll have investigation after investigation and nothing bad will happen to anyone. It’s a waste of time.
Well said... and in absolute seriousness, this is what needs to happen.
