McDonald's Under Pressure to Fire Ronald By JULIE JARGON
More than 550 health professionals and organizations have signed a letter to McDonald's Corp. asking the maker of Happy Meals to stop marketing junk food to kids and retire Ronald McDonald.
The letter, slated to run in the form of full-page ads in six metropolitan newspapers around the country on Wednesday, acknowledges that "the contributors to today's (health) epidemic are manifold and a broad societal response is required. But marketing can no longer be ignored as a significant part of this massive problem."
"We are committed to responsible advertising and take our communications to children very seriously," McDonald's said in a statement. "We understand the importance of children's health and nutrition, and are committed to being part of the dialogue and solution. We serve high quality food, and our Happy Meals offer choice and variety in portions just for kids. Parents tell us they appreciate our Happy Meal choices."
The campaign is organized by the nonprofit watchdog group Corporate Accountability International, which has also targeted tobacco companies and beverage makers like Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo Inc. for the environmental impact of plastic bottles.

I hope The Hamburglar comes in and whizzes on their tofu.
Is this a joke? This is a gag post, right?
I mean, we’ve seen egregious stupidity, utter childishness, and the depths of the moronic in the American character here on Freep, but... really?
This sets a new low for post-adolescent idiocy.
Probably the same group of ‘scientists’ the support global warming..............
That is what they should do but PC will never allow it to happen.
Because there is a clown - parents are FORCED to buy soda and french fries and deep fried chicken parts for their children - rather than milk fruit and a burger?
McDonalds is perfectly fine for a child to eat at as part of a sensible diet - and they can even do so with the “Happy Meal” and get a toy.
Milk.
Fruit.
Burger.
Nothing wrong with that lunch.
Now if you feed your kids the Nuggets, Fries and a Soda - and because they whine and cry you feed them that every day - with a Chocolate Sunday to top off your shame. Well I don't see how it was the “clown” that made you do it.
In such a scenario there is only one CLOWN I see responsible for your fat diabetic children. And it AINT Ronald McDonald.
Bring on the Food Cop Puritans! As Mencken would put it, they have the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be eating a Happy Meal . . . and enjoying it.
Dear Corporate Accountability International: Ef You! Strong letter to follow. Sicerely, Ronald.
I don’t understand why McDonald’s is being singled out. It has a lot more healthy menu options than BK, Jack or Wendys. Why aren’t they being attacked?
This sets a new low for post-adolescent idiocy.

Oh, I don’t know. The banning of Happy Meals was pretty stupid.
A petition defending Ronald McDonald is being put forward by the Pillsbury Dough Boy, Mr. Peanut, the Burger King, Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, the Keebler Elves, the M&Ms, the Fruit of the Loom guys, etc.
Ronald is a “white guy”. No need to have a white guy promoting McDonald’s. Fire the sucker, one less white guy in the work force.
Because this is not really about health. It's about the terminal hatred that liberal busybodies have toward success. McDonalds is the largest of the fast food chains, and as a result, the #1 target. The goal is to retire an advertising figure that busybodies consider key to that success.
Have they done the same asking the sodomites to end their propaganda campaigns toward our kids?
First they came for Joe Camel...
The federal government is suing Starbucks for firing a dwarf.
[In]Justice going to do the same for Ronald?
First they got Joe Camel, now they are after Ronald MacDonald. Can Santa Claus be the next target?
