For most big news Web sites, about 60 percent of the traffic is homegrown, people who come directly to the site by dint of a bookmark or typing in www.latimes.com or www.huffingtonpost.com. The other critical 40 percent comes by referrals, the links that are the source of drive-by traffic, new readers and heat-seekers on a particular story.

It's his main competition for hits.
He's linking to FreeRepublic again.
Drudge and FR every day for me; it’s how I find out what’s going on in this world.
He’s also refused to load his site down with unnecessary crap so even if you’re on a slow connection, Drudge always pops right up.
C4P? Are you sure that’s the name?
It’s funny, but I actually remember where I was when I first heard of the Drudge Report (when the “blue dress” story broke) and it’s been my home page ever since. My only disappointment with Drudge is personal - I’ve tried a few times to contact him to offer him unique access to a momentous news story (to put it mildly) that will break within the next 4-5 months and he hasn’t shown any interest in following up. He must get contacted alot with these sort of claims, which mostly end up being false alarms. So, I can’t say I’m all that surprised by his non-responsiveness. Being a big fan of Matt’s, I would have loved to see him get credit for bringing the story to the world’s attention ahead of the “lamestream media” (I also remember when and where I first heard that wonderfully descriptive term). Oh well, Matt’s still “The Man” in my book.
Don’t forget, Matt Drudge also made history, by revealing the Monica Lewinsky affair. The only other player that knew about it - Isikoff’s employer, Newsweek, was quite prepared to bury that story - so if not for Drudge, the world might have never known the truth about Slick Willie, Gore might have had 2 terms, etc.
One guy with a modem, vs. the President of the US - and the little guy won. Now that’s historic.
Same here, I found FR from Drudge when the Monica fit hit the shan.
My three “primary” news sources are Drudge, FR, and the New Zeal blog of Trevor Loudon at http://trevorloudon.com/, which deals mainly with the socialist and Communist infiltration of our culture, institutions, and government.
Since 2008, this New Zealander has unearthed more documented evidence of Obama’s socialist/Marxist/Communist connections than any other investigator, including those who have written books on the subject. His Obama Files are a priceless resource.
“..he hasnt shown any interest in following up..”
Have you considered that he had the story before you did?
So, do you actually have an E-type (or two)?
I always wanted a roadster, but for now I’ll have to settle for a scale model...
The NYT hasn’t figured out yet that someone like Drudge has the ability to call attention to the elephant in the room instead of always trying to divert attention away from it.
I did too. He had just started the web site (he had a maillist before that). I was in LA in spring of 97 for a meeting, saw an article about Drudge, wrote him an email and he actually wrote me back!
Part of it might have been that some posters on FR were doing their level best to alienate Matt, IIRC.
The New York Times are very jealous. They wish they had the type of influence on the topic of the day as the Drudge Report.
No doubt in my mind the Drudge Report is the nation’s top newspaper web site. It leads the way on most of the topics for the day.
Read what Breitbart has to say about Puffington Host. Huffington the woman (?) is infamous.
I don’t use Drudge at all. Why would I? This site here is all I need for news. Now I do go to tvbythenumbers.com for tv news and yahoo.com for e-mail. Of course facebook.com for friends and family. But after those four sites, I don’t really need anything else.
Yep, for those in the know. (;>)
